  • Robot manipulators for harvesting fruits must be controlled to track the desired path of end-effector to avoid obstacles under the consideration of collision free area and safety path. This paper presents a robot path control algorithm to secure a collision free area with the recognition of work environments. The flexible space, which does not damage fruits or branches of tree due to their flexibility and physical properties , extends the workspace. Now the task is to control robot path in the extended workspace with the consideration of collision avoidance and velocity limitation at the time of collision concurrently. The feasibility and effectiveness of the new algorithm for redundant manipulators were tested through simulations of a redundant manipulator for different joint velocities.

  • A neural optimization network is proposed to control the redundant robot manipulators in an environment with the obstacle. The weightings of the network are adjusted by considering both the joint dexterity and the capability of collision avoidance of joint differential motion. The fuzzy rules are proposed to determine the capability of collision avoidance of each joint. To show the validities of the proposed method, computer simulation results are illustrated for the redundant robot of the planner type with three degrees of freedom.

  • Most of the control problem is for the redundant manipulators use the pseudo-inverse control, thit is, the redundancy is resolved by the pseudo-inverse of the Jacobian matrix and then the controller is designed based on this resolution. However, this pseudo-inverse control has some problems when the redundant robot repeats the cyclic tasks. This is because the pseudo-inverse resolution is a local solution that generates the different configurations of the robot arm for the same hand position. Therefore it is necessary to find the global solution that maintains the optimal configuration of the robot for the repetitive tasks. In this paper, we want to propose a redundancy resolution method by the optimal theory that uses the calculus of variation. The problem formulations are : first to convert the optimal resolution problem to an optimal control problem and then to resolve the redundancy using the necessary conditions of optimal control.

  • The conventional robot manipulability is decomposed into linear manipulability and angular manipulability so that they may be analysed and visualized in easy way even in the case of 3 dimensional task space with 6 variables. After the Jacobian matrix is decomposed into linear part and angular part, constraint on joint velocities is transformed into linear task velocity and angular task velocity through the decomposed Jacobian matrices. Under the assumption of redundant robot manipulators, several optimization problems which utilize the redundancy are formulated to be solved by linear programming technique or sequential quadratic programming technique. After deriving the solutions of the optimization problems, we give graphical interpretations for the solutions.

  • For the control of redundant manipulators, conventional dynamic control methods of local torque optimization showed the instability which resulted in physically unrealizable torque requirements. In this paper, a new dynamic control method which is based on the concept of aspects is proposed. The proposed method starts with the basic understanding of the minors in the Jacobian matrix. It was shown by computer simulations that the proposed method demonstrates a drastic reduction of torque loadings at the joints in the tracking motion of a long trajectory, and thus guarantees the stability of joint torque.

  • This paper presents an impact control algorithm for reducing the potentially damaging effects by interation of redundant manipulators with their environments. In the. proposed control algorithm, the redundancy is resolved at the torque level by locally minimizing joint torque, subject to tire operational space dynamic formulation which maps tire joint torque set into the operational forces. For a given pre-impact velocity of the manipulator, the proposed approach is on generating joint space trajectories throughout the motion near the contact which instantaneously minimize the impulsive force which is a scalar function of manipulator's configurations. This is done by using the null space dynamics which does not affect the motion of an end-effector. The comparative evaluation of the proposed algorithm with a local torque optimization algorithm without reducing impact is performed by computer simulation. The simulation results illustrate the effectiveness of the algorithm in reducing both the effects of impact and large torque requirements.

  • Several figures representing velocity transmission from joint space to task space are analyzed and compared with each other. The figures include velocity ellipsoid derived from Jacobian matrix, scaled velocity ellipsoid derived from normalized joint velocities, polytope derived by numerical scaling, and polytopes derived by linear combinations of Jacobian column vectors. The results show that the optimal directions given by the measures are not the same and the conventional velocity ellipsoid is not good choice as optimization measure as far as the moving direction is concerned. Simulation examples for 3 d.o.f. redundant robot manipulators in 2-dimensional task space are given for comparison study.

  • A kinematic control for redundant manipulators is consisdered. An efficient computation method is proposed to determine the joint variable solutions for a given Cartesian path of the end effector. In the proposed method, the Jacobian matrix and its pseudoinverse matrix are calculated intermittently only when the errors exceed the prescribed tolerance. Thereby, the computational burdens are greatly reduced, and at the same time, the errors are maintained within a tolerable range. To show the effectiveness of the mehtod, the result of the simulation is provided in which the redundancy of the manipulator is resolved to avoid the singularity.

  • Various physical limitations which intrinsically exist in the manipulator control system, for example kinematic limits and torque limit, cause some undesirable effects. Specifically, when one or more actuators are saturated the expected control performance can not be anticipated and in some cases it induces instability of the system. The effect of torque limit, especially for redundant manipulators, is studied in this article, and an analytic method to reconstruct the control input using the redundancy is proposed based on the kinematically decomposed modeling of redundant manipulators. It results to no degradation of the output motion closed-loop dynamics at the cost of the least degradation of the null motion closed-loop dynamics. Numerical simulations help to verify the advantages of the proposed scheme.
