This paper proposes an analytical redundancy technique for fault diagnostics of the sensor in steer-by-wire system. We use incorporating vehicle dynamics modeling into the design of a diagnostic system for steer-by-wire system. The use of a model of vehicle dynamics improves the speed and accuracy of the diagnoses. The proposed fault diagnostics algorithm is based on parity-space methods to generate residuals. To reduce the effects of modeling uncertainty and dynamic transients, the residuals are subject to filtering. We construct diagnostic system consisting residual threshold for detection and isolator with using the directional residual vector.
In the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) system, the motion error is the main phase error sources and the motion compensation is very important. The phase gradient autofocus (PGA) is a state of art technique for phase error correction of SAR. It exploits the redundancy of the phase-error information among range bins by selecting the strongest scatter for each range bin and synthesizes them. The motivation of this paper is based on the observation that the redundancy of phase error is also among the cross-range direction. Moreover, the proposed method applies the weighting function to better utilize the phase error information. The validity of the proposed scheme for PGA is tested with some numerical simulation.
Reliability is an important issue in cascaded H-bridge converters (CHB converters) because they use a high number of power semiconductors. A faulty power cell in a CHB converter can potentially lead to expensive downtime and great losses on the consumer side. With a fault-tolerant control strategy, operation can continue with the undamaged cells; thus increasing the reliability of the system. In this paper, the operating principles and the control method for a CHB multilevel rectifier are introduced. The influence of various faults on the CHB converter is investigated. The method of fault diagnosis and the bypassing of failed cells are explained. A fault-tolerant protection strategy is proposed to achieve redundancy in the CHB rectifier. The redundant H-bridge concept helps to deal with device failures and to increase system reliability. Simulation results verify the performance of the proposed strategy.

Mostof existing CAD systems do not provide the advanced function for systematic checking of design and drafting errors in mechanical drawings. We have reported a computer aided drawing check system to single plane projection drawings made by a CAD system. This paper describes a checking method of dimensioning errors in mechanical drawings. The checking items are deficiency and redundancy of dimensions, input-errors in dimension figures and symbols, etc. Checking for deficiency and redundancy of global dimensions has been performed applying Graph Theory. This system has been applied to several examples and we have confirmed the feasibility of this checking method.

This paper proposes an algorithm to reduce the bitrate for transmission of MCP(motion compensated prediction) error signals. Many digital image coders have recently employed hybrid coding schemes which perform motion compensation, DCT transform, quantization, and variable length coding. The variable length coding compresses the quantized DCT coefficient data by removing their statistical redundancy. But some DCT blocks have the interblock statistical redundancy as well as the intrablock one. To utilize both of them, the DCT blocks are classified into the interleaving group and the non-interleaving group. And then each DCT blocks in the interleaving group are is encoded independently, and the DCT blocks in the interleaving group are encoded after interleaving the DCT coefficients. Through the simulations, it is shown that the proposed method outperforms the conventional method in which each DCT block is encoded independently.

A zero vector selection method to reduce switching losses for model predictive control (MPC) of voltage source inverter is proposed. A conventional MPC of voltage source inverter has not been proposed, and a method to select the redundancy of the zero vector is required for this study. In this paper, the redundancy of the zero vectors is selected with generating a zero sequence voltage to reduce switching losses. The zero vector of 2-level inverter is determined by determining sign of the zero sequence voltage. In the proposed method, the quality of the current is retained and switching loss can be reduced compared with the conventional method. This result was verified by P-sim simulation and experiments.

In this paper, we propose a fast disparity estimation method considering temporal and spatial redundancy based on a dynamic programming for stereo matching. For the first step, the dynamic programming is performed to estimate disparity vectors with correlation between neighboring pixels in an image. Next, we efficiently compensate regions, which disparity vectors are not allocated, with neighboring disparity vectors assuming that disparity vectors in same object are quite similar. Moreover, in case of video sequence, we can decrease a complexity with temporal redundancy between neighboring frames. For performance comparison, we generate an intermediate-view image using the estimated disparity vector. Test results show that the proposed algorithm gives $0.8{\sim}2.4dB$-increased PSNR(peak signal to noise ratio) compared to a conventional block matching algorithm, and the proposed algorithm also gives approximately 0.1dB-increased PSNR and $48{\sim}68%$-lower complexity compared to the disparity estimation method based on general dynamic programming.
In HVDC systems, the full-bridge submodule increases the number of components compared to the half-bridge submodule, but the failure-rate can be reduced by securing 100 % redundancy. However, full-bridge submodules require more complex control algorithms to ensure the redundancy and to prevent arm-short with sufficient dead-time. To solve this problem, we analyse the failure-rate of the paralleled half-bridge configuration with the same number of components and 100 % redundancy as the full-bridge submodule. The fault tree analysis (FTA) method is applied to the conventional part failure analysis to reflect the operation risk of the submodule, thereby predicting the life-cycle of the submodule more accurately. To verify the validity, the failure-rate results of the proposed FTA based analysis method are compared with the failure rate obtained by the part failure method.

Objective: To compare inferior capsular redundancy by using magnetic resonance arthrography (MRA) images in patients with multidirectional instability (MDI) of the shoulder and control subjects without instability and thereby develop a screening method to identify the presence of shoulder MDI. Materials and Methods: The MRA images of patients with MDI of the shoulder (n = 65, 57 men, 8 women; mean age, 24.5 years; age range, 18-42 years) treated over an eight-year period were retrospectively reviewed; a control group (n = 65, 57 men, 8 women; mean age, 27.4 years; age range, 18-45 years) without instability was also selected. The inferior capsular redundancy was measured using a new method we named the glenocapsular (GC) ratio method. MRA images of both groups were randomly mixed together, and two orthopedic surgeon reviewers measured the cross-sectional areas (CSAs) and sagittal capsule-head ratios on oblique sagittal images, as well as the axial capsule-head ratios on axial images and GC ratios on oblique coronal images. Results: The CSAs and GC ratios were significantly higher in patients than in controls (both, p < 0.001); however, the sagittal capsule-head ratios and axial capsule-head ratios were not significantly different (p = 0.317, p = 0.053, respectively). In addition, GC ratios determined the presence of MDI more sensitively and specifically than did CSAs. A GC ratio of > 1.42 was found to be most suggestive of MDI of the shoulder, owing to its high sensitivity (92.3%) and specificity (89.2%). Conclusion: GC ratio can be easily measured and used to accurately screen for MDI of the shoulder.

In this paper we propose ATCS, a practical TCP protocol coding scheme based on network coding for satellite IP networks. The proposal is specially designed to enhance TCP performance over satellite networks. In our scheme, the source introduces a degree of redundancy and transmits a random linear combination of TCP packets. Since the redundant packets are utilized to mask packet loss over satellite links, the degree of redundancy is determined by the link error rates. Through a simple and effective method, ATCS estimates link error rates in real time and then dynamically adjusts the redundant factor. Consequently, ATCS is adaptable to a wide range of link error rates by coding TCP segments with a flexible redundancy factor. Furthermore, the scheme is compatible with traditional TCP variants. Simulation results indicate that the proposal improves TCP performance considerably.
