  • Software dimension reduction identifies the commonality of elements and extracts important feature elements. So it reduces complexity by simplify and solves multi-collinearity problems. And it reduces redundancy by performing redundancy and noise detection. In this study, we proposed defect severity-based dimension reduction model. Proposed model is applied defect severity-based NASA dataset. And it is verified the number of dimensions in the column that affect the severity of the defect. Then it is compares and analyzes the dimensions of the data before and after reduction. In this study experiment result, the number of dimensions of PC4's dataset is 2 to 3. It was possible to reduce the dimension.

  • The drag reduction is the phenomenon that occurs only when the shear stress from the wall of pipe is beyond the critical point. The drag reduction increase as the molecular weight, concentration of the polymer and Reynolds number increase, but it is limited by Virk's maximum drag reduction asymptote. Because of the strong shear force for the polymer on the turbulent flow, the molecular weight and the drag reduction do not decrease. Such mechanical degradation of the polymer occurs in all polymer solvent systems. This paper is to identify and develop high performance polymer additives for fluid transportations with the benefits of turbulent drag reduction. In addition, drag reduction in vertical flow by measuring the pressure drop and local void fraction on vertical-up flow of close system is evaluated.

  • Recently, copper alloy netting has been proposed as a material for aquaculture facilities that can be set in harsh offshore environments. To design a cage made of copper alloy netting, it is necessary to calculate the flow of water through the netting and force of external sources on the netting. Therefore, this study measured and analyzed the current velocity reduction after passing through the netting and the hydrodynamic forces acting on the netting using copper alloy netting with nine solidity ratios. As a result of the reduction rate of the flow velocity through the netting, the flow reduction rate was increased as the solidity ratio of netting was increased. The flow reduction rate was also increased as the attack angle on the netting was decreased. In analyzing the resistance on the netting, we also discovered that resistance was increased with increase in the flow velocity and solidity ratio. An analysis of the hydrodynamic coefficient acting on the netting is shown that the drag coefficient tends to increase as the attack angle increases. We also analyzed the hydrodynamic coefficient according to the variation of the Reynolds number. When the drag coefficients acting on the netting were analyzed with the different Reynolds numbers, the Reynolds number increased from over 0.3 m/s to a relative constant. Finally, the copper alloy nettings had a smaller velocity reduction rate when comparing the flow velocity reduction rate between copper alloy nettings and nylon nettings.

  • This study is to illustrate the usefulness of Kriging Dimension Reduction Method(KDRM), which is to construct probability distribution of response function in the presence of the physical uncertainty of input variables. DRM has recently received increased attention due to its sensitivity-free nature and efficiency that considerable accuracy is obtained with only a few number of analyses. However, the DRM has a number of drawbacks such as instability and inaccuracy for functions with increased nonlinearity. As a remedy, Kriging interpolation technique is incorporated which is known as more accurate for nonlinear functions. The KDRM is applied and compared with MCS methods in a compression coil spring design problem. The effectiveness and accuracy of this method is verified.

  • Fuzzy Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) is a mathematical tool for the effective representation of imprecise and vague knowledge. However, with a large number of formal concepts from a fuzzy context, the task of knowledge representation becomes complex. Hence, knowledge reduction is an important issue in FCA with a fuzzy setting. The purpose of this current study is to address this issue by proposing a method that computes the corresponding crisp order for the fuzzy relation in a given fuzzy formal context. The obtained formal context using the proposed method provides a fewer number of concepts when compared to original fuzzy context. The resultant lattice structure is a reduced form of its corresponding fuzzy concept lattice and preserves the specialized and generalized concepts, as well as stability. This study also shows a step-by-step demonstration of the proposed method and its application.

  • In order to study on the cause of visibility aggravation, we have selected the days of low-visibility observed in Seoul with haziness that was below 6km from 12 to 15 LST. According to the examinations, the number of low-visibility days satisfying the criteria is 30 days in 1989, 39 days in 1990, and 35 days in 1991, respectively. The annual number of low visibility days appears to increase mainly due to an increase in emission of air pollutants and in anthropogenic water vapor in the biosphere. The relationship between visibility and air pollutants(TSP, $NO_2, SO_2, O_3$) of selected days is also studied. Air pollution concentrations of selected days are much higher than those of other days. It is observed that the cause of visibility aggravation in Seoul is mainly smog and air pollutants. In particular, the visibility reduction and high $SO_2$ concentrations at Seoul in winter are similar phenomena that occurring with London smog, while the visibility reduction and high $O_3$ concentrations at Seoul in summer are also similar to the type of Los Angeles smog.

  • This paper presents a new group for multilevel converter that operates as symmetric and asymmetric state. The proposed multilevel converter generates DC voltage levels similar to other topologies with less number of semiconductor switches. It results in the reduction of the number of switches, losses, installation area, and converter cost. To verify the voltage injection capabilities of the proposed inverter, the proposed topology is used in dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) to restore load voltage. The operation and performance of the proposed multilevel converters are verified by simulation using SIMULINK/MATLAB and experimental results.

  • An efficient methodology using static test data and changes in natural frequencies is proposed to identify the damages in structural systems. The methodology consists of two main stages. In the first stage, the Damage Signal Match (DSM) technique is employed to quickly identify the most potentially damaged elements so as to reduce the number of the solution space (solution parameters). In the second stage, a particle swarm optimization (PSO) approach is presented to accurately determine the actual damage extents using the first stage results. One numerical case study by using a planar truss and one experimental case study by using a full-scale steel truss structure are used to verify the proposed hybrid method. The identification results show that the proposed methodology can identify the location and severity of damage with a reasonable level of accuracy, even when practical considerations limit the number of measurements to only a few for a complex structure.

  • The critical characteristics of Bi-2223 HTS tapes made by PIT method are influenced by the heat treatment and the mechanical processing. In this study firstly we investigated the influence o rolling reduction rate in mechanical process for improving Jc of HTS tapes. As a result the optimized rolling reduction rate that we obtained was 10%-50% and 30%-30% (1st-2nd). And then we fabricated the stacking type HTS tapes that made of the multi-filamentary tapes with various length(3, 5, 10cm) and with various number of stacking (1, 5, 10 layer). Measuring the critical current and observing the structure of grain we concluded that the stacking type tapes will be able to operate more stably by adding the number of stacking tapes. And we could expect that by minimizing the gap between Ag-sheath of tapes mechanical strength of stacking HTS tapes is enhanced and current in tapes will flow more stably.

  • In the present study, wind tunnel experiments were performed to reduce the drag of a paragliding helmet in the range of Reynolds numbers from 46,000 to 155,000. The drag force of the helmet model with dimples and deflectors installed was measured by varying the dimple depth and the slant angle of the deflector. The dimples were effective in reducing the drag at low Reynolds numbers, but no significant drag reduction was found in the Reynolds number range in which an actual paraglider flight takes place. On the other hand, the deflector installed tangentially to the side outline of the helmet showed an average drag reduction of 7% in the flight Reynolds number range of real paragliding. This was because the deflector shrunk the size of the wake region and moved the wake region downstream of the deflector.
