  • This paper suggests a new non-isolated high voltage gain DC-DC converter with two switches. The proposed two-switch converter has the following characteristics: a high voltage gain, a continuous input current with a small ripple, a reduction in the size of the inductor, and a simple circuit with only a few elements. A theoretical analysis, guidelines for parameter selection, and a comparison with conventional non-isolated high step-up converters are presented. A prototype of 250 W is set up to demonstrate the correctness of the proposed converter. Results obtained from simulations and experiments are presented.

  • For the paralleled operation of DC/DC converters, the current sharing between each modules is the most important for the reliability of the power system. Interleaving method is commonly used with many paralleling schemes for the reduction of the ripple in the output voltage of paralleled converters and there are many commercial IC for interleaving application appliable. But for all of them, it is impossible to detect the number of module in operating and then change the phase of them automatically. In this paper, a novel paralleling method is proposed for the converter parallel operation, which detects the number of modules in active and sets the phases of PWM signals applied to each modules autonomously. This can greatly improve the output voltage ripple and reliability of the system. The expandibility of modular number can be done very easily by just adding several parts.

  • In this paper, an approach to reduce the common-mode voltage and to eliminate narrow pulse for implemented AC-DC matrix converters is presented. An improved space vector modulation (SVM) strategy is developed by replacing the zero space vectors with suitable pairs of active ones. Further, while considering the commutation time, the probability of narrow pulse in the conventional and proposed SVM methods are derived and compared. The advantages of the proposed scheme include: a 50% reduction in the peak value of the common-mode voltage; improved input and output performances; a reduction in the switching loss by a reduced number of switching commutations and a simplified implementation via software. Experimental results are presented to demonstrate the correctness of the theoretical analysis, as well as the feasibility of the proposed strategy.

  • The effect of corona discharge on soot emission was experimentally investigated. Size and number concentrations of soot aggregates were measured and compared for various voltages. Regardless of the polarity of the applied voltage, the flame length decreased and the tip of flame spreaded with increasing voltage. For the experimental conditions selected, the flame was blown off toward the ground electrode by corona ionic wind. When the negative applied voltage was greater than 3kV(for electrode spacing = 3.5cm), soot particles in inception or growth region were affected by the corona discharge, resulting in the reduction of number concentration. The results show that the ionic wind favored soot oxidation and increased flame temperature. Number concentration and primary particle size greatly increased, when the corona electrodes were located the region of soot nucleation or growth(close to burner mouth).

  • In this paper we proposed AC/DC boost converter to improve input current harmonic reduction in TIG welder. The proposed harmonic reduction circuit with UC2854AN acting on constant switching frequency average current control has a three-loop control structure : the inner current loop the line voltage feed-forward loop and th outer voltage loop. Also we applied the constant current strategy on full bridge IGBT inverter to stabilized the output current using the analog PI controller. To demonstrate the practical significance of the proposed methods some simulation studies and experimental results are presented.

  • As a key component of high-voltage power conversion system for electric vehicles (EVs), bidirectional DC/DC (Bi-DC/DC) is required to have high efficiency and light weight. Conventional design methods optimize the Bi-DC/DC at the maximum power dissipation point (MPDP). For EVs application, the work condition of the Bi-DC/DC is not strict as the MPDP, where the design method using MPDP may not be optimal during travel of EVs. This paper optimizes the Bi-DC/DC converter targeting efficiency and weight based on the driving cycle. By analyzing the two-phase interleaved Bi-DC/DC for hybrid energy storage systems (HESS) of EVs, its power dissipation is calculated, and an efficiency model is derived. On this basis, weight models of capacitor, inductor and heat sink are built, as well as a dynamic temperature model of heat sink. Based on these models, a method using New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) for optimal design of Bi-DC/DC which simultaneously considered efficiency and weight is proposed. The simulation result shows that compare with conventional optimization methods revealed that the optimization approach based on driving cycle allowed significant weight reduction while meeting the efficiency requirements.

  • This paper presents an improved ZVS partial series resonant DC/DC converter (PSRC) with low conduction losses suitable for high power and high frequency applications. The proposed PSRC have advantages of zero-voltage-swiching (ZVS) of main switches for entire load ranges and low conduction losses of main switches by decreasing current stresses Also the reduction of the effective duty cycle is not occurred during the resonant period of the main circuit because the auxiliary circuit of the proposed converter is placed out of the main power path. An improved ZVS PSRC has a so much characteristics with respect to the reduction of current stress. The operation principles of the proposed converter are explained in detail and the various simulated and experimental results show the validity of the proposed converter.

  • In this paper, adaptive prefiltering method is proposed for reduction of dc-link ripple in cascaded NPC/H-bridge system. Under non-linear load such as electric machine or harmonically distorted conditions, dc-link capacitor voltage with harmonics is inevitable result. In terms of reducing dc-link ripple, prefiltering method combined low pass filter with multiple second order generalized integrator is proposed. Proposed prefiltering method effectively reduces harmonics of dc-link ripple and improves characteristic of THD, simulated by using MATLAB R2014a and PSIM 9.1.4.

  • In this paper, characteristics of the DC flashover voltage in the horizontal air gap of sphere-sphere/needle-needle electrode system were investigated when the combustion flame of paraffin oil was present between the two electrodes. The reduction characteristic of DC flashover voltage was discussed with the thermal ionization process, the relative air density and the deflection phenomena in the shape of flames that caused by the corona wind and Coulomb's force. As the results of an experimental investigation, It was found that the reduction characteristics of DC flashover voltages with flames were affected strongly by the flame deflection and the change of relative air density. It was also found that the thermal ionization phenomena were not important in the range of combustion flame temperature.

  • In this paper, the power electronics requirement and the controls of an induction motor for fuel cell electric vehicle system are presented. The power topology is selected based on performance, cost, size, volume, manufacturability, component count and simplicity. Another highlight of the topology is the reduction of battery bank and its control strategy. The proposed approach consists a full-bridge DC/DC converter to boost the fuel cell voltage. The induction motor operated with vector control is driven by a three-phase PWM inverter supplied by the DC-link voltage. The investigation of the electric vehicle performed due to parameter variation of the induction motor has been presented.
