  • The quantities of electronic waste have been increased rapidly, and was caused variety problems such as environmental pollution or dissipation of resource. So, it needed to development of recycling technology about heavy metal in the electronic waste. Meanwhile, filler material (concrete or mortar) was used for shielding radioactive waste, however, it did not used materials that it is proved radiation shielding performance. So, there is a lack of confidence in the shielding performance. Therefore, in this paper, mechanical properties of concrete was evaluated for the applicability using electronic waste as fine aggregate of filler material. From the test results, compressive and flexural strength and elasticity modulus and the micro pore in the $1{\mu}m$ range was significantly affected by substitution of electronic waste, however, it could be improved the performance by using mineral admixture as binder. So, it is shown that the electronic waste could be applicable as fine aggregate of filler material.

  • In this paper, risk assessment was conducted to verify self - disposal requirements by landfill for exempted incineration ash by using Resrad Ver.6.5 computer code. The result of risk assessment by landfill for the incineration by-product is that individual dose is $6.91{\times}10^{-2}{\mu}Sv\;y-1$ and collective dose is $3.475{\times}10^{-7}man-Sv\;y-1$. It proved that the result meets reference dose of individual dose $10{\mu}Sv\;y-1$ and collective dose 1 man-Sv y-1 for general public. According to the current 'Nuclear Safety Commission Notice [No. 2014-3]', it states that the exempted wastes can be disposed of by incineration, landfill and recycling. However, most of recently documents and papers related to exempted wastes are disposed of by landfill and recyling and it could not confirm the case of exempt by incineration. If the national consensus is derived and treating the waste by using process of incineration is activated, it could be considered to treat low level of radiation wastewater and activated carbon excluded from exempted waste because of nuclide $^3H$ and $^{14}C$.

  • As the educational media tends to be more digitalized and individualized, the learning paradigm is dramatically changing into e-learning. Existing on-line courseware gives a learner more chances to learn when they are home with their own PCs. However, it is of little use when they are away from their digital media. Also, it is very labor-intensive to convert the original off-line contents to on-line contents. This paper proposes education mobile contents(EMC) that can supply the learners with dynamic interactions using various multimedia information by recognizing real images of off-line contents using mobile devices. Content-based image retrieval based on object shapes is used to recognize the real image, and shapes are represented by differential chain code with estimated new starting points to obtain rotation-invariant representation, which is fitted to computational resources of mobile devices with low resolution camera. Moreover we use a dynamic time warping method to recognize the object shape, which compensates scale variations of an object. The EMC can provide learners with quick and accurate on-line contents on off-line ones using mobile devices without limitations of space.

  • In order to recycle both water sludge and waste fishing net(WFN), it was investigated in this paper the engineering characteristics of mixtures that consisted of different content of water sludge(0%, 10%, 30%, 50%) and reinforced with waste fishing net(unreinforced, untreated WFN, glue treated WFN). WFN or glue treated WFN(1&2 layers) was also added to the mixture to improve the interlocking between the soil particle and WFN. Several series of laboratory tests such as compaction test, triaxial test, oedometer test, permeability test and leaching test were carried out. The experimental test results indicated that, as water sludge content increases, maximum dry unit weight, cohesion, friction angle, and permeability of the mixture decrease, while optimum moisture content, compression index, expansion index and compressibility increase. For the case of reinforced mixture, its cohesion and friction angle are increased due to the inclusion of WFN and glue treated WFN. Leaching result of mixture was satisfied with standard of ministry of environment.

  • To dispose of waste, there are methods such as landfill, incineration, recycling, and sea discharge. Since the landfill wastes accumulate, there is a limit to the landfill site to accommodate them. In this paper, a time series analysis and current status of landfill allowance was analyzed over 20 years of landfills distributed throughout the country using GIS to understand the status of waste reclamation. As a result, the emissions of waste were gradually increasing, and as the emissions increased, the amount of landfill increased. The landfills in the Seoul metropolitan area have been saturated and need to be resolved as soon as possible.

  • In a situation in which around 50 million metric tons of electrical and electronic products is generated globally per year, the total installed base of Internet of Things (IoT) devices is projected to amount to around 75 billion worldwide by 2025. However, there is very little research on identification schemes for end-of-life treatment (EoLT) of IoT devices. To address this issue, this paper proposes new identifiers including EoLT information such as recyclability rate (Rcyc) and recoverability rate (Rcov) of an IoT device, recycling rate (RCR) and recovery rate (RVR) of each part in the IoT device, etc. and implements them by using object identifier (OID), mobile radio frequency identification (RFID) and quick response (QR) code. The implemented OID and mobile RFID can be used with cooperation of a remote server via communication networks and the implemented QR code can be used simply with a smartphone app.

  • Recently, the advantages of high-speed arithmetic in quantum computers have been known, and interest in quantum circuits utilizing qubits has increased. The Grover algorithm is a quantum algorithm that can reduce n-bit security level symmetric key cryptography and hash functions to n/2-bit security level. Since the Grover algorithm work on quantum computers, the symmetric cryptographic technique and hash function to be applied must be implemented in a quantum circuit. This is the motivation for these studies, and recently, research on implementing symmetric cryptographic technique and hash functions in quantum circuits has been actively conducted. However, at present, in a situation where the number of qubits is limited, we are interested in implementing with the minimum number of qubits and aim for efficient implementation. In this paper, the domestic hash function LSH is efficiently implemented using qubits recycling and pre-computation. Also, major operations such as Mix and Final were efficiently implemented as quantum circuits using ProjectQ, a quantum programming tool provided by IBM, and the quantum resources required for this were evaluated.

  • The foreign trends of noncompliance occurring frequently in food contact materials during the period of 2011-2019 was investigated by analyzing the food safety risk information DB in the National Food Safety Information Service (NFSI). A total of 2,042 cases of noncompliance of food utensils, containers, and packages were classified into 5 violation categories; administrative procedures, manufacturing and processing standards, residues and migration standards, labeling and advertising, and quality standards. This was again subcategorized according to non-compliance causative factors. The non-compliances in residues and migration standards comprised the largest proportion (76.4%) of the violative categories. The number of noncompliance information collected in 2011 was 88 cases and increased to 373 cases in 2019. A 72.8% of the non-compliance case was identified to be products of 4 countries (China 64.2%, Germany 4.0%, Japan 3.2%, and Taiwan 3.1%), those produce large quantities of containers and packaging products. During the period of 2011-2019, the number of illegal use of hazardous materials and illegal recycling of waste synthetic resins has decreased to less than one a year since 2014. On the other hand, after 2016, inconsistency of heat-resisting temperature labeling (Taiwan), non-compliance in paper container's strength standards, violation of printing standards, and the risk of consumer injury while using the products were newly reported due to the strengthening of consumer safety protection regulations. Migration of hazardous substances in synthetic polymer products such as heavy metals, melamine and formaldehyde in melamine tableware, primary aromatic amines which are colorant components in kitchenware such as ladles and spatulas, and phthalate plasticizers have been continuously reported with high frequency.

  • BACKGROUND: Enormous amounts of the wood biomass wastes have been produced through various wood processing. This study characterizes the surface characteristics of biomass powders of Cornus controversa (CC) and Quercus mongolica (QM) and investigates their removal efficiency and mechanism for Pb (II) in aqueous solution on which to base potential recycling alternative of the wood biomass. METHODS AND RESULTS: Batch experiments were conducted under different conditions of Pb concentrations, temperatures, time and solid/solution ratios. Adsorption isotherm of Pb by CC and QM biomass was explained significantly by the Langmuir model, indicating Pb was likely adsorbed on the monolayer of the surfaces. The adsorption kinetics were fitted significantly to the double first-order model consisting of rapid and slow steps. The respective rate constants (k1) of CC and QM for the rapid adsorption kinetic steps were 0.051 and 0.177 min-1, and most of the sorption reactions proceeded rapidly within 6-20 minutes. The maximum adsorption quantities (qmax) of Pb were 17.25 and 23.47 mg/g for CC and QM, respectively. Thermodynamic parameters revealed that adsorption of Pb on the biomass of CC and QM was a spontaneous endothermic reaction. CONCLUSION(S): Results demonstrate that biomass wastes of CC and QM can be used as Pb adsorbents judging from adsorption isotherm, kinetics, and thermodynamic parameters.
