This study compares the forecasting accuracy of five econometric models on domestic total freight volume in South Korea. Applied five models are as follows: Ordinary Least Square model, Partial Adjustment model, Reduced Autoregressive Distributed Lag model, Vector Autoregressive model, Time Varying Parameter model. Estimating models and forecasting are carried out based on annual data of domestic freight volume and an index of industrial production during 1970~2011. 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year ahead forecasting performance of five models was compared using the recursive forecasting method. Additionally, two forecasting periods were set to compare forecasting accuracy according to the size of future volatility. As a result, the Time Varying Parameter model showed the best accuracy for forecasting periods having fluctuations, whereas the Vector Autoregressive model showed better performance for forecasting periods with gradual changes.
This paper extends the authors' prior work on the regulation of flexible space structures via partial feedback linearization (PFL) methods to articulated systems. Recursive relations introduced by Jain and Rodriguez are central to the efficient formulation of models via Poincare's form of Lagrange's equations. Such models provide for easy construction of feedback linearizing control laws. Adaptation is shown to be an effective way of reducing sensitivity to uncertain parameters. An application to a flexible platform with mobile remote manipulator system is highlighted.
In recent years, Computer-based learning, such as machine learning and deep learning in the computer field, is attracting attention. They start learning from the lowest level and propagate the result to the highest level to calculate the final result. Research literature has shown that systematic learning and growth can yield good results. However, systematic models based on systematic models are hard to find, compared to various and extensive research attempts. To this end, this paper proposes the first TNT(Transitive Nested Triangle)model, which is a growth and fusion model that can be used in various aspects. This model can be said to be a recursive model in which each function formed through geometric forms an organic hierarchical relationship, and the result is used again as they grow and converge to the top. That is, it is an analytical method called 'Horizontal Sibling Merges and Upward Convergence'. This model is applicable to various aspects. In this study, we focus on explaining the TNT model.
P-gp (P-glycoprotein) is a member of the ATP binding cassette (ABC) family of transporters. It transports many kinds of anticancer drugs out of the cell. It plays a major role as a cause of multidrug resistance (MDR). MDR function may be a cause of the failure of chemotherapy in cancer and influence pharmacokinetic properties of many drugs. Hence classification of candidate drugs as substrates or nonsubstrate of the P-gp is important in drug development. Therefore to identify whether a compound is a P-gp substrate or not, in silico method is promising. Recursive Partitioning (RP) method was explored for prediction of P-gp substrate. A set of 261 compounds, including 146 substrates and 115 nonsubstrates of P-gp, was used to training and validation. Using molecular descriptors that we can interpret their own meaning, we have established two models for prediction of P-gp substrates. In the first model, we chose only 6 descriptors which have simple physical meaning. In the training set, the overall predictability of our model is 78.95%. In case of test set, overall predictability is 69.23%. Second model with 2D and 3D descriptors shows a little better predictability (overall predictability of training set is 79.29%, test set is 79.37%), the second model with 2D and 3D descriptors shows better discriminating power than first model with only 2D descriptors. This approach will be used to reduce the number of compounds required to be run in the P-gp efflux assay.

The energy conservation is one of the most important issues in recent years. Especially, the energy conservation through improved control strategies is one of the most highly possible area to be implemented in the near future. The energy conservation of the ice storage system can be accomplished through the improved control strategies. A real time building load prediction algorithm was developed. The expected highest and the lowest outdoor temperature of the next day were used to estimate the next day outdoor temperature profile. The measured dry bulb temperature and the measured building load were used to estimate system parameters by using the on-line weighted recursive least square method. The estimated hourly outdoor temperatures and the estimated hourly system parameters were used to predict the next day hourly building loads. In order to see the effectiveness of the building load prediction algorithm, two different types of building models were selected and analysed. The simulation results show less than 1% in error for the prediction of the next day building loads. Therefore, this algorithm may successfully be used for the development of improved control algorithms of the ice storage system.

A new estimated neural networks are proposed in order to measure nonlinear road environments in realtime. This new neural networks is Error Estimated Neural Networks. The structure of it is similar to recurrent neural networks; a delayed output as the input and a delayed error between the output of plant and neural networks as a bias input. In addition, we compute the desired value of hidden layer by an optimal method instead of transfering desired values by backpropagation and each weights are updated by RLS(Recursive Least Square). Consequently, this neural networks are not sensitive to initial weights and a learning rate, and have a faster convergence rate than conventional neural networks. We can estimate nonlinear models in realtime by the proposed networks and control nonlinear models. To show the performance of this one, we control 7 degree simulation, this controller and driver were proved to be effective to drive a car in the environments of nonlinear road systems.

This paper proposes a frequency transfer function synthesis for approximating a high-order model with resonance to a low-order model in the frequency domain. The presented model approximation method is based on minimizing the error function weighted by the numerator polynomial of approximated models, which is used of the RLS(Recursive Least Square) technique to estimate the coefficient vector of approximated models. The proposed method provides better fitting in a low frequency and peak resonance. And an example is given to illustrate feasibilities of the suggested schemes.
A high-fidelity model of a tracked vehicle traversing a flexible ground terrain with a varying profile is presented here. In this work, we employed a recursive formulation to model the track subsystem. This method yields a minimal set of coordinates and hence, computationally more efficient than conventional approaches. Also, in the vehicle subsystem, the undercarriage frame is assumed to be connected to the chassis by a revolute joint and a spring-damper unit. This increase in system mobility makes the model more realistic. To capture the vehicle-ground interaction, a Winkler-type foundation with springs-dampers is used. Simulation runs of the integrated tracked vehicle system for vibrations for four varying ground profiles are provided.
The actual power performance of historical structural change tests are compared under various alternatives. The tests of interest are F, CUSUM, MOSUM, Moving Estimates and empirical distribution function tests with both recursive and ordinary least-squares residuals. Our comparison of the structural tests involves limiting distributions under the hypothesis, the ability to detect the alternative hypotheses under one or double structural change, and smooth change in parameters. Even though no version is uniformly superior to the other, the knowledge about the properties of those tests and connections between these tests can be used in practical structural change tests and in further research on other change tests.

The relational database management systems sometimes require extremely long and complicated queries for a certain retreval. In this case, recursive retirevals are more efficient approach than the usual queries. Many researchers have tried to incorporate semantics in the traditional relational models using artificial intelligence techniques. This new concept becomes a deductive database and sometimes it is also called as a logic programming. However, the designer of a deductive database did not overcome the short of relational database. In this paper, we propose a new way of designing queries for the deductive database. We also provide relations for recursive retrieval in the deductive database. These approaches are applied for the material requirement planning.
