  • During the last three years, the possibility of the time reversal Lamb waves has been paid attention to for structural health monitoring of a plate. This study proposes a numerical scheme which can simulate the spatial focusing of time reversal Lamb waves on a rectangular plate. In this scheme, a time reversal process is formulated in the frequency domain using active virtual sensors being equivalent to the mirror effects of an actual sensor due to wave reflection on the plate boundary. Forward and backward Lamb wave propagations are represented by scalar functions for simulating the spatial focusing of time reversal Lamb waves. The validity of the proposed scheme is demonstrated through the comparison to the results of finite element analysis in which the spatial focusing of time reversal Lamb waves is realized by wafer-type piezoelectric(PZT) transducers collocated on a rectangular plate.

  • Some methods of analysis of rectangular plates under distributed load of various intensity with interior supports are presented herein. Analysis of many structures such as bottom, side shell, and deck plate of ship hull and flat slab, with or without internal supports, Floor systems of bridges, included crthotropic bridges is a problem of plate with elastic supports or continuous edges. When the four edges of rectangular plate is simply supported, the double Fourier series solution developed by Navier can represent an exact result of this problem. If two opposite edges are simply supported, Levy's method is available to give an "exact" solution. When the loading condition and supporting condition of a plate does not fall into these cases, no simple analytic method seems to be feasible. Analysis of a simply supported rectangular plate under irregularly distributed loads of various intensity with internal supports is carried out by applying Navier solution well as the "Principle of Superposition." Finite difference technique is used to solve plates under irregularly distributed loads of various intensity with internal supports and with various boundary conditions. When finite difference technique is applied to the Lagrange's plate bending equation, any of fourth order derivative term in this equation produces at least five pivotal points leading to some troubles when the resulting linear algebraic equations are to be solved. This problem was solved by reducing the order of the derivatives to two: the fourth order partial differential equation with one dependent variable, namely deflection, is changed to an equivalent pair of second order partial differential equations with two dependent variables. Finite difference technique is then applied to transform these equations to a set of simultaneous linear algebraic equations. Principle of Superposition is then applied to handle the problems caused by concentrated loads and interior supports. This method can be used for the cases of plates under irregularly distributed loads of various intensity with arbitrary conditions such as elastic supports, or continuous edges with or without interior supports, and this method can also be solve the influence values of deflection, moment and etc. at arbitrary position of plates under the live load.

  • This paper is for the vibration analysis of thick plate with concentrated mass on a inhomogeneous pasternak foundation. the thick rectangular plate resting on a inhomogeneous pasternak foundation is isotropic, homogeneous and composite with linearly elastic material. In order to analyize plat which is supported on inhomogeneous pasternak foundation, the value of winkler foundation parameter(WFP) of centural and border zone of plate are chosen as Kw1 and Kw2 respectively. The value of Kw1 and Kw2 can be changed as 0, 10, $10^2,\;10^3$ and the value of SFP(shear foundation parameter) also be changed 0, 5, 10, 15 respectively. Finally, In this paper, vibration of retangular plate on the inhomogeneous pasternak foundation, natural frequency of this plate with Concentrated Mass are calculated

  • In order to investigate the characteristics of sound-structure interaction plate having a cut-out, we modeled a rectangular cavity and the flexible plate of the cavity. Because the particle velocity of air is the same as that of plate on the plate, we could easily redefine vibration equation using the velocity potential. We calculated the natural frequencies of plate using orthogonal polynomial functions which satisfy the boundary conditions in the Rayleigh-Ritz method. For the change of vibration characteristics, the effect of sound-structure interaction is more dominant than that of cut-out size.

  • In this study the plastic buckling analysis of a simply supported plate under biaxial compression/tension loading is carried out considering the plastic compressibility. Plastic buckling of a biaxially loaded rectangular plate is governed by two kinds of mechanism, the tension strengthening and plastic weakening under which the optimal combination of tension and compression is obtained for the buckling strength. To consider the plastic compressibility, the Drucker-Prayer plastic potential is employed. General eigenvalue equations are derived for a rectangular plate within the framework of small strain plasticity and isotropic hardening.

  • A relatively low frequency Lamb wave-based damage identification method called damage imaging method for rectangular composite plate is presented. A damage index (DI) is generated from the delay matrix of the Lamb wave response signals, and it is used to indicate the location and approximate area of the damage. The viability of this method is demonstrated by analyzing the numerical and experimental Lamb wave response signals from rectangular composite plates. The technique only requires the response signals from the plate after damage, and it is capable of performing near real time damage identification. This study sheds some light on the application of Lamb wave-based damage detection algorithm for plate-type structures by using the relatively low frequency (e.g., in the neighborhood of 100 kHz, more suitable for the best capability of the existing fiber optic sensor interrogator system with the sampling frequency of 500 kHz) Lamb wave response and a reference-free damage detection technique.

  • One of the main problems concerning the shallow seismic survey is how to generate high frequency signals with large amplitudes using small seismic sources. If one could focus the seismic energy in the direction of the survey line, it will be much helpful in identifying the first break. In this research, we have used hammer as an impulsive source and compared the signal powers generated by different shapes of the hammer plates: circular, square, and rectangular. The experiment was conducted by calculating the power spectral density function to compare the frequency spectrum and signal power. In the direction perpendicular to the long side of the rectangular plate, the largest seismic energy with the highest frequency was achieved even with the same weights of hammer plates. Our conclusion is that it is more efficient to use a rectangular plate than a circular (or square) one when conducting a 2-D shallow seismic survey.
