An Empirical Analysis on the Rapid Reading and Comprehension Ability Program

  • We select the 'rapid reading and comprehension method' to promote the reading skill, and want to apply it to students to study how their reading speed and comprehension improves. For this purpose, in this paper, we define reading as an accurate and quick ability to process information, and the object of this research is to verify a scheme to improve the reading skill, which is called the 'rapid reading and comprehension method - reading based on this method means fast reading as well as an accurate understanding which increases the amount of information received'. For data collection, we selected four primary school in the Kimje city. We found out validation the effective improvement of the reading ability by the 'rapid reading and comprehension method program'. The students' reading speed was enhanced by the rapid reading training and the comprehension ability increased as well.

초등 과학영재반과 일반 학생 및 남녀 간의 독해력과 과학탐구능력의 비교 및 상관관계 분석 (Comparative and Correlation Analysis on Reading Comprehension and Science Process Skills between the Science Gifted and General Students and by Gender)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences of reading comprehension and science process skills between science gifted students and general students and to see the correlations between reading comprehension and science process skills of science gifted students by gender. The subjects were 57 science gifted students and 57 general students in 5th grade in U city. The results can be summarized as follows: First, the science gifted students had excellent reading comprehension skills compared to the general students and the difference was statistically significant. By gender, boys and girls of the science gifted students showed higher marks than those of the general students respectively. But for boys, the difference was statistically significant, while for girls, the difference was not significant. Second, the science gifted students has excellent science process skills compared to the general students and the difference was statistically significant. By gender, boys and girls of the science gifted students showed higher marks than those of the general students respectively. And for boys and girls, the difference was statistically significant. Third, there was low positive correlation between the reading comprehension and science process skills of the science gifted students. By gender, boys and girls showed low positive correlation respectively. But for boys, the difference was statistically significant, while for girls, the difference was not significant.

Automatic Reading System for On-off Type DNA Chip

  • In this study we propose an automatic reading system for diagnostic DNA chips. We define a general specification for an automatic reading system and propose a possible implementation method. The proposed system performs the whole reading process automatically without any user intervention, covering image acquisition, image analysis, and report generation. We applied the system for the automatic report generation of a commercialized DNA chip for cervical cancer detection. The fluorescence image of the hybridization result was acquired with a $GenePix^{TM}$ scanner using its library running in HTML pages. The processing of the acquired image and the report generation were executed by a component object module programmed with Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0. To generate the report document, we made an HWP 2002 document template with marker strings that were supposed to be searched and replaced with the corresponding information such as patient information and diagnosis results. The proposed system generates the report document by reading the template and changing the marker strings with the resultant contents. The system is expected to facilitate the usage of a diagnostic DNA chip for mass screening by the automation of a conventional manual reading process, shortening its processing time, and quantifying the reading criteria.

성학대를 내용으로 한 그림책 읽기 과정에서 나타난 만 5세 유아의 반응 분석 (An Analysis of the Responses of 5'Year' Old Children in the Process of Reading Picturebooks on Sexual Abuse)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze 5'year' old children's responses in the process of reading picturebooks on sexual abuse and to explore the educational implications of the results. 42'five year' old children and 2 of their teachers participated as subjects in the study. Data was collected by means of observation, a diary record of the teacher's class, and an interview with teachers about children's responses in the process of reading picturebooks on sexual abuse during the free choice activities, and group activities in J and K daycare centers in Busan, Korea from July to September. The results were as follows : the analysis identified three patterns of responses; consistent responses, awkward responses, and confused and frightened responses. These result imply that selecting picturebooks for sexual abuse preventive education programs for young children needs to be given careful consideration. The importance of the teacher's reading skills and sociocultural cognition regarding sexuality in general were also discussed.

중국인 학습자의 우리말 음운변동 단어의 읽기 발음 훈련효과 (The Effects of Reading Pronunciation Training of Korean Phonological Process Words for Chinese Learners)

  • This study observes how the combined intervention program effects on the acquisition reading pronunciation of Korean phonological process words and the acquisition aspects of each phonological process rules to four Korean learners whose first language is Chinese. The training program is the combination of multisensory Auditory, Visual and Kinethetic (AVK) approach, wholistic approach, and metalinguistic approach. The training purpose is to evaluate how accurately they read the words of the phonological process which have fortisization, nasalization, lateralization, intermediate sound /ㅅ/ (/${\int}iot"$/). We access how they read the untrained words which include the four factors above. The intervention effects are analyzed by the multiple probe across subjects design. The results indicate that the combined phonological process rule explanation and the words activity intervention affects the four Chinese subjects in every type of word. The implications of the study are these: First, it suggests the effect of Korean pronunciation intervention in a concrete way. Second, it offers how to evaluate the phonological process and how to train people who are learning Korean language.

학교도서관 중심의 독서교육을 위한 독서전략 범주화에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Categorization of Reading Strategies for Reading Instruction in School Library)

  • 독서교육에 관한 최근의 연구에 의하면 독립적인 기능 중심의 교육보다는 독서전략을 중심으로 지도해야 한다는 주장이 폭넓게 수용되고 있다. 독서전략은 독자가 능숙하게 독서를 하는데 동원하거나 지도교사가 효과적인 독자가 될 수 있도록 지도하는 방법이나 의도적인 계획을 말한다. 그동안 학교도서관에서 제공하는 독서교육 프로그램은 독서촉진 혹은 행사에 치중해 왔다. 따라서 학교도서관에서 제공하는 독서교육은 독서촉진이나 행사보다는 독서전략 중심의 교육으로 전환할 필요가 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 텍스트 종류, 텍스트의 구조, 독서의 과정, 인지전략 등 4개의 요소로 구분하여 독서교육에 필요한 독서전략을 범주화하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 웹기반 독서교육 시스템의 새로운 모델을 제안한다. 기존의 웹기반 독서교육 시스템은 학습자들의 상호작용 강화 및 독서 흥미를 높이는 데는 효과적이었으나 독서의 결과 지도에만 치중하여 장시간을 요하는 독서 과정에서 웹기반 시스템의 활용도는 극히 미진하였다. 본 논문에서는 독서교육을 읽기 전, 읽는 중, 읽은 후의 활동으로 세분화하고 각 단계에서 활용할 수 있는 웹기반 독서 전략들을 개발하여 교사와 학생, 학부모의 적극적인 상호작용이 이루어지도록 하였으며 전문가 협력학습, 문제해결학습 등 국어과의 교수-학습 유형에 따른 전략의 적용 방법을 제시함으로써 정규 교과 시간의 독서 지도가 활성화 되도록 하였다.

정보그림책 읽기에 관한 이야기; 네 유아를 중심으로 (The Nature of Young Children's Informational Picturebook Reading)

  • This case study describes the nature of young children's responses in the informational picturebook reading process through the eyes of 4 young children. Over a twenty week period from September 3, 2007 to February 15, 2008, researcher observed 4 young children while they read informational picturebooks and interacted with one another in terms of what they had read. The young children's personalities, preferences and environments as individual background clearly influenced responses and interaction during the reading process. By acknowledging the response styles of young children, a teacher can assist young children in developing a repertoire of responses to informational picturebooks.

우리나라 공공도서관의 독서회 운영 현황 (A Study of Public Library of the Reading Circle Management in Korea)

  • 공공도서관의 독서회 운영은 독서활동을 활성화하는데 중요한 역할을 하기 때문에 독서회 발전과정을 살펴보기 위하여 그 동안 독서회 운영에 관한 실태조사를 1991년 1999년 2번 실시했었는데 2004년에 3번째 실시하여 그 결과를 서로 비교 분석했다. 공공도서관의 개관은 처음 실태를 조사할 때보다 배로 증가하였으며, 독서회운영에도 많은 관심을 보여 공공도서관의 독서활동을 활성화되고 있는데, 공공도서관 자체에서 독서회를 조직하여 운영하는 현상이 아주 적극적으로 나타났으며, 운영 예산도 많이 확보하고, 독서활동 장소도 적극적으로 제공해 주고 있다. 그러나 독서활동 프로그램의 개발과 독서회 운영 전담 전문가의 배치는 여전히 독서회 운영의 과제로 남아 있다.

아동의 읽기에 대한 인식 (Children's Perception of Reading)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate children's perception of reading. The researchers interviewed 120 children aged 5 to 7 (40 for each age group) by using a specially designed interview format. The study of Johns (1973) was referred to as a guide in preparing the format. Responses of the children were classified in accordance with criteria worked out on the basis of the researchers' previous studies and analyzed in terms of frequencies and percentiles by age group. ${\chi}^2$ test was used to analyze the data. The findings of the study were: (1) The younger the children, the higher the rate of showing no response or of responding only to concrete incidents or things. Older children in general showed higher responses relevant to reading comprehension than younger ones. (2) Older children were more inclined than younger ones to regard the process of reading as a skill-oriented, teacher-based process. (3) Children in these age groups showed little perception of reading's objectives of comprehension and communication.
