  • Analytical solutions of the reactant concentration inside porous spherical catalytic particles were obtained from unsteady reaction-diffusion equation by applying eigenfunction expansion method. Various surface concentrations as exponentially decaying or oscillating function were considered as boundary conditions to solve the unsteady partial differential equation as a function of radial distance and time. Dirac delta function was also used for the instantaneous injection of the reactant as the surface boundary condition to calculate average reactant concentration inside the particles as a function of time by Laplace transform. Besides spherical morphology, other geometries of particles, such as cylinder or slab, were considered to obtain the solution of the reaction-diffusion equation, and the results were compared with the solution in spherical coordinate. The concentration inside the particles based on calculation was compared with the bulk concentration of the reactant molecules measured by photocatalytic decomposition as a function of time.

  • One of important protecting skill is securing the minimum safe distance from potential hazard to protect protectee in the emergency situation, that is basic thing for the detailed security in relation to the walking formation and the distance between protectee and crowed. This thesis is to provide the idea on the scientific countermeasure in the gun attack situation, by presenting logic on the reaction time and it's moving distance, on the safe distance between protectee and crowed. Handball goal keeper's reaction time of 0.33seconds is applied, because handball goal keeper's reaction style is very similar to security agent's reaction style. And 4m/sec of record is applied, that is average speed of 'go and return type run of 40m' to calculate it's moving distance. Several researches show that reaction time could be improved by continuing training, similarly security agents could improve their reaction time, providing better reaction skill. The important thing is that it make big difference in the protecting result, although the shortening of reaction time is too slight. Securing safe distance between protectee and crowed and the distance between protectee and security agent could provide effective reaction environment with 'natural protective wall effect' by security agent

  • Li-graphite intercalation compounds (GICs), synthesized at elevated temperature and pressure, were allowed to decompose spontaneously in the atmosphere. The decomposition processes were analyzed by of X-ray diffraction, DSC analysis, FT-IR measurements, UV/VIS spectrophotometry. The deintercalation reaction of the Li-GICs ceased after 6 weeks and only the residual compounds could be observed. A strong exothermic reaction was observed at 300 $^{\circ}C$ in thermal decomposition, and relatively stable decomposition curves were formed. A few endothermic curves have been observed at 1000 $^{\circ}C.$ After 6 weeks deintercalation reaction time of GICs, many exothermic and endothermic reactions were accompanied at the same time. In addition the reactions of the functional groups such as aromatic rings, nitrogen, $-CH_3$, $-CH_2$ etc. of GDIC obtained by the above reaction were confirmed by FT-IR spectrum. UV/VIS spectrophotometric measurement clearly shows the formation of a minimum energy value ($R_{min}$) for the compounds between Li-GICs as a starting material and Li-GDICs obtained until after 3 weeks of the deintercalation reaction, while they were no clear energy curves from 4 weeks of reaction time, because of the formation of the graphite structure, of high stages and of the Li compounds surrounding the graphite in the deintercalation reaction.

  • Feasibility is investigated for reduction of chromium ore by Si sludge with mixed silicothermic and carbothermic reaction. The reduction behavior of chromium ore using Si sludge is investigated precisely to determine the effects of carbon addition, reaction time, and reaction temperature. The pellets are dropped into the furnace after temperature stabilized. As the amount of C addition increases, the amounts of CO and $CO_2$ gas generation increase. After the dropping of the pellets, the pellets are heated and the reaction starts at about 1,573 K or higher. The pellets maintain their shape until 10 min after the drop, and then melted. As the holding time increased, the size of the reduced metal particles increased. The chromium ore is rapidly reduced by the Si sludge, and the slag penetrated into the chromium ore and reduction progressed inside. As the reduction temperature increased, the reaction initiation time is shortened and the reaction fraction of the reduction reaction increased. As the reaction temperature increased, agglomeration of reduced ferrochrome metal is promoted.

  • Effect of reaction time and sludge formation on the thickness of die soldering reaction layer has been studied in Al-9Si-0.3Mg casting alloy. Ternary ${\alpha}_{bcc}-Al_8Fe_2Si$ and ${\alpha}_{hcp}-Al_8Fe_2Si$ intermetallic compounds formed at the interface of SKD61 tool steel by interaction diffusion of Al, Fe and Si atoms after 0.5hr and 6hr immersion time, respectively. Binary ${\eta}-Fe_2Al_5$ additionally formed at the interface of SKD61 tool steel after 10hr immersion time. Thickness of soldering reaction layer in die surface increased as immersion time increased from 0.5hr to 24hr. Sludge formation was ascertained in the samples which were immersed in the melts more than 10hr. Reaction of die soldering after sludge formation was more accelerated than that of before sludge formation due to a decrease in Fe content, followed by higher diffusion rate of Al in the melt by sludge formation.

  • This study was aimed to estimate removal efficiency(%) of BER(Biofilm-Electrode Reactor) and A.S(Activated Sludge) treatments. When were analyzed COD$_{Cr}$, NH$_3$-N and T-P by current density and reaction time, the results were as follows : 1) In BER treatment, the removal efficiency of COD$_{Cr}$ in domestic wastewater was 79-86% when current density was 2.39 mA/dm$2$(15mA)-3.98 mA/dm$^2$(25mA) and reaction time was 48 hr. 2) Removal efficiency of NH$_3$-N was 71-73% when current density was 2.39-3.98 mA/dm$^2$ and reaction time 48 hr. 3) When the reaction time was 48 hr removal efficiency(%) of BER treatment for COD$_{Cr}$, NH$_3$-N and T-P were more excellent than A.S. treatment. And then we prospect that was because activated microorganism colonies attached in biofilm on surface of electrode pannel. Therefore, In order to derive BER treatment efficiency(%) should establish optimum conditions of pH, temp., reaction time, current density and biochemical and electrochemical states.

  • Purpose: We investigated the effects of physical practice, mental practice, and cross education using serial reaction time (SRT) in the non-dominant left arm of right-handed individuals. Methods: Subjects were divided into three groups; physical practice (n=8), mental practice (n=8) and controls (n=8). They did, respectively, physical training or mental training, or had no intervention for three weeks. Super lab 4.0 displayed four symbols on the monitor and subjects were asked to push the matching button. Reaction time was assessed pre- and post-intervention. Results: Reaction time was significantly lower after physical practice (p<0.05), but mental practice did not significantly lower reaction time? in the left hand. Also, reaction time was not significantly lower after physical practice or mental practice in the right hand. Conclusion: Physical practice can improve motor learning, but mental practice is not sufficient. Also, neither physical practice nor mental practice is sufficient for cross education from the nondominant to the dominant arm.
