Countercurrent oxidation process (COP) was developed and evaluated for treatment of highly concentrated PCB containing insulating oil. The PCB content in insulating oil taken from Haksanmetal company was found to be 1,512 ppm. The COP utilizes a self-sustained flame which propagates itself in a direction counter to the oxygen flow. The flame removes PCBs adsorbed in activated carbon and, at the same time, regenerates activated carbon. The flame temperature was determined from both mass loss of activated carbon and the relative ratio of CO and $CO_2$ exhausted during COP, and showed that its temperature lied in the range of $650-850^{\circ}C$. Removal efficiency of PCBs was achieved above 99.99% for 5% of insulating oil loaded activated carbon with 1 COP in weight ratio. Also, the same removal efficiency was acquired for 60% of insulating oil loaded activated carbon with three consecutive COP. In addition, specific surface area of activated carbon during COP was recovered to almost similar value of virgin activated carbon. It proved that the COP was much effective in removing high concentration of PCBs in insulating oil easily and affordably.
All diets were based on feeds of fattening period pigs(LY x D, ca. 90 kg) with six treatments, which were the control, containing 5% beef tallow(C), 3% beef tallows and 2% perilla seeds oil(T1), 250 ppm vit. E(${\alpha}$-tocopheryl acetate) in T1(T2), 3% beef tallow and 2% squid viscera oil(T3), 250 ppm vit. E in T3(T4), and 3% beef tallow and 2% CLA(T5), respectively. Produced porks and their carcass characteristics were as follows. The daily gain of pigs was higher in T2 and 73 than any other treatments(p<0.05). Its T2 and T3 was 3.71 and 3.80 respectively, however, there was no significance in feed intake. The highest back fat thickness was shown in control group on market weight, while there was no significant difference on their initial weight. Loin-eye muscle area did not show any significant difference on initial weight and on market weight, however, its T5 was about twice as large as T2's. Content of triglyceride in blood was high in control group as compared to others; especially, the values for T3, T4 and T5 were significantly low(p <0.05). There was no significant difference in total cholesterol contents, and the ratio of HDL cholesterol/total cholesterol was higher in vit. E treated samples than untreated sample. Atherogenic index was high in sample with T3 and low in sample with T2. The perilla seed oil, squid fish oil, and vit. E decreased atherogenic index. Dressing percentage, back fat thickness, and grade did not show any significant difference(p >0.05); however, T2, C and T3, T1 and T5 showed 4.67, 4.29, 4.00 respectively, in grades.

To elucidate the optimum fertilizer level and application method for band application under puddled-soil drill seeding in Jeonbuk series of fluvio-marine alluvial soil at National Honam Agricultural Experiment Station in 1995, using Dongjinbyeo, slow releasing compound fertilizer of 100% and 80% to conventional application level was applied totally as basal fertilizer simultaneously with seeding under 3cm and 5cm depth from soil surface in a distance of 4cm from the seeded row. Plant height was taller and tiller number was higher in band application than conventional application but ratio of effective tiller was vice versa. Panicle number was more but ratio of effective tiller ratio was lower in 100% than 80% level of band application and they were higher in 3cm than 5cm depth from soil surface. Leaf area index and dry weight was higher in conventional application at early growth stage but was vice versa after maximum tillering stage, and they were higher in 3cm depth at early growth stage but 5cm depth after maximum tillering stage. NH$_4$-N in soil was higher in conventional application at 25 days after seeding but, thereafter was lower than band application and it was higher in 3cm than 5cm depth till 40 days after seeding but was versa, thereafter. Lodging degree was slightly higher in band application, 100% level and 5cm depth than in their counterparts. Panicle number and grain number per $m^2$ was lower in conventional application than 80% or 100% level of band application without significant difference between band application levels or application methods. Yield was higher at 80% level of band application under 3cm depth than conventional application, but no significantly different among other application methods. Therefore, 80% level of band application under 3cm depth of soil surface was more effective for puddled-soil drill seeding on the basis of the reduction of application efforts, better plant growth and higher yield in rice.
Hydroxyapatite(HAp) powders were synthesized by wet-precipitation precess using $Ca(NO_3)_2{\cdot}4H_2O$ and $(NH_4)_2HPO_4$ and homogeneous composites of four type were prepared by mixing of synthetic HAp and Polyacrylic Acid(PAA). Ca/P ratio of synthetic HAps was determined using ICP analysis and the thermal property of HAp/PAA composites were investigated by TGA. Good crystalline HAp was obtained at pH 11 and $60{\circ}C$. The ratio of Ca/P in synthetic HAps was quantified in a range of 1.35~1.49, from which Ca-deficient HAp was obtained. The specific surface area of HAp/PAA composite increased with increasing the content of PAA and the weight loss of HAp/PAA composite at $800{\circ}C$ decreased in a range of 3.5~9.6% due to the degradation of PAA binder. From FT-IR analysis of HAp/PAA composite, it was confirmed that the ionic bond between ion of HAp and carboxyl group of PAA was formed.
This study was designed to determine the effect of red LEDs during healing and acclimatization process on the survival rate and quality of grafted tomato seedlings. Red LEDs and no light (darkness) were used for treating three rootstock cultivars, which are 'B-Blocking', 'Kanbarune', 'High-power' in healing room. Results showed that survival rates of grafted seedlings in red LEDs were higher than those in no light treatment. Significant variation on survival rates of rootstock cultivars was observed in no light treatment but there was not significant variation in red LEDs treatment. Light treatment also reduced the percentage of infected plants, except for the 'Kanbarune' cultivar. Seedling quality in red LEDs was better than that in no light treatment by improving growth parameters such as plant height, leaf length, leaf width, leaf area, fresh and dry weight of shoot and root. Light treatments and rootstock cultivars did not affect number of leaves, leaf chlorophyll value and T/R ratio of seedlings, but seedlings in red LEDs were significantly more compact than those in no light treatment. Moreover, the root morphology of seedlings such as total root surface area, total root length, and number of toot tips in red LEDs was also greater than that in no light treatment.
In order to develop a more practical culture system from the present running seawater tank system, two experiments of environmental factors, growth, survival rate and rearing density of olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) were carried out for two consecutive years. Two groups of fish in initially averaging 7.5cm of total length, and 3.4g of body weight (EXP. I) and 5.0cm and 1.8g (EXP. II) were reared in the semi-closed recirculating seawater system equipped with the rotating biological contactors with the commercial culture scale. The dissolved inorganic nitrogen concentrations is EXP. I ranged 0,247-0.512 ppm of $NH_4-N$ (0.010-0.043 ppm of$NO_2-N$, and 0.108-0.342 ppm of $NO_3-N$, and those in EXP. II were 0.091-0.715 ppm, 0.002-0.045 ppm, and 0.007-0.277 ppm, respectively. Daily feeding rates of the fish were $0.67-2.41\%$ in EXP. I and $0.69-2.22\%$ in EXP_ II, and teed efficiency were $34.8-59.8\%\;and\;40.5-88.4\%$ in EXP. I and II, respectively. The average total ten說h and body weight were 40.0-42.8cm and 695.0-852.69g after 340 days culture in EXP. I, and 36.7-39.7cm and 552.4-706.4 g after 365 days culture in EXP. II, respectively. Survival rates of the fish at the end of EXP. I and II were $92.0\%\;and\;96.0\%,$ respectively. The ratio to body surface area of non-ocular side in all fish to bottom area of rearing tank, so-called covering rate, was used as an indicator of rearing density. The highest cowering rate and weight density of fish per $m^2$ of rearing tank at the end of experimental period were 2.2 and 34.1kg in EXP. I, and 2.6 and 36.3kg in EXP. II, respectively. For the commercial culture of olive flounder, the semi-closed recirculating seawater system was found to be more effective than the running seawater tank system in aspect to the fish productivity and protection of marine environment.

Bamboo is an evergreen perennial plant, and it is known as one of the most productive and fastest-growing plants in the world. It grows quickly in moderate climates with only moderate water and fertilizer. Traditionally in Asia, bamboo is used for building materials, as a food source, and as versatile raw materials. Bamboo as a biomass feedstock can be transformed to prepare activated carbon using the thermal treatment of pyrolysis. The effect of process variables such as carbonization temperature, activation temperature, activation time, the amount of steam, and the mixing ratio of phosphoric acid and bamboo were systematically investigated to optimize the preparation conditions. Steam activation was proceeded after carbonization with a vapor flow rate of $0.8{\sim}1.8mL-H_2O\;g-char^{-1}\;h^{-1}$ and activation time of 1 ~ 3 h at $700{\sim}900^{\circ}C$. Carbon yield and surface area reached 2.04 ~ 20.59 wt% and $499.17{\sim}1074.04m^2\;g^{-1}$, respectively, with a steam flow rate of $1.4mL-H_2O\;g-char^{-1}\;h^{-1}$ for 2 h. Also, the carbon yield and surface area were 24.67 wt% and $1389.59m^2\;g^{-1}$, respectively, when the bamboo and phosphoric acid were mixed in a 1:1 weight ratio ($700^{\circ}C$, 2 h, $1.4mL-H_2O\;g-char^{-1}\;h^{-1}$). The adsorption of methylene blue into the bamboo activated carbon was studied based on pseudo first order and second order kinetics models. The adsorption kinetics were found to follow the pseudo second order model, which is governed by chemisorption.
It is well established that dissolution is freruently the rate limiting step in the gastrointestinal absorpton of a drug from a solid dosage from. The relationship between the dissolution rate and absorption is particularly distinct when considering drugs of low solubility. Consequently, numerous attempts have been made to modify the dissolution characteristics of poorly water soluble drugs. Since dissolution rate is directly proportional to surface area, one may increase the rate by decreasing the particle size of the drug. Levy has considered a number of methods by which a drug may be presented to the GI fludids in finely divided from. The direct method is the utilization of microcrystalline or micronized particles. A second method involves the administration of solutions from which, upon dilution with gastric fluids, the dissolved drug will precipitate in the form of very fine particles. A more unique way of obtaining microcrystalline dispersions of a drug has been ercently suggested by Sekiguchi et al. They have first proposed the formation of a eutectic mixture of a poorly water soruble drug with a physiologically inert, easily soluble carrier. When such systems are exposed to water or GI fluids, the soluble carrier will dissolve rapidly and the finely dispersed drug particles will then be released. It has been suggested by Shefter and Higuchi that the formation of crystalline solvate could be a powerful tool in affecting rapid disslution of highly insoluble substances. Goldberg et al. have noted that the formation of solid solution could reduce the particle size to a minimum and increase the dissolution rate as well as the solubility of the durgs. It has also been shown that the rates of solution of drugs were appreciably increased by coprectipitating the drug with soluble polymers. The increase was found to be sensitive to the method of preparation, the molecular weight of polymer and the particular ratio of drugs to polymer. Although several investigations have demontrated that the solubility and/or dissolution rates of drugs can be increased in this manner, little information is available in the literature related to the in vivo absorption pattern of drugs orally administered as PVP coprecipitates. Recently, however, it was demonstrated that both the rate and extent of absorption of the insoluble drug could be markedly enhanced when orally administered to rats in the form of a coprecipitate with PVP. The purpose of the present investigation was to ascertain the general appility of soluble polymer coprectation technique as a method for enhancing the in vitro dissolution rate of hydrophobic indomethacin. To accomplish this aim, the dissolution characteristics of pure indomethacin, indomethcin-polymer physical mixtures and indomethacin-polymer coprecipitates were quantitatively studied by comparing their relative dissolution rates. The solubility and dissolution behavior of these systems were also examined.

This paper deals with basic theories and some numerical results on structural optimization for geodesic dome. First of all, the space efficiency of geodesic dome is investigated by using the ratio of icosahedron's surface area to the internal volume enclosed by it. The procedure how to create the geodesic dome is also provided in systematic way and implemented and utilized into the design optimization code ISADO-OPT. The mathematical programming technique is introduced to find out the optimum pattern of member size of geodesic dome against a point load. In this study, total weight of structure is considered as the objective function to be minimized and the displacement occurred at loading point and member stresses of geodesic dome are used as the constraint functions. The finite difference method is used to calculate the design sensitivity of objective function with respect to design variables. The SLP, SQP and MFDM available in the optimizer DoT is used to search optimum member size patterns of geodesic dome. It is found to be that the optimum member size pattern can be efficiently obtained by using the proposed design optimization technique and numerical results can be used as benchmark test as a basic reference solution for design optimization of dome structures.
Objective: This study aimed to examine the effect of sodium butyrate (SB) on growth performance, immune status, organs weights, and microarchitecture of lymphoid organs and small intestine. Methods: A total of 120, 1-d-old broiler chicks were distributed into the following four treatment groups: corn-soy based basal diet (BD) without supplement (control), or the same BD supplemented with 0.1 g/kg zinc bacitracin (ZnB), 0.5 g/kg SB (SB-0.5), or 1.0 g/kg SB (SB-1), respectively. Six birds/group were killed on d-21 and d-35, and samples were collected. Results: Cell-mediated immune response at 48 h post-Phytohemagglutinin-P injection, and antibody titer against Newcastle disease vaccine and sheep red blood cells on d-35 was noted higher (p<0.05) in SB-1 compared to ZnB and control. Lower (p<0.05) feed conversion ratio (FCR) was attained by the supplemented groups. Thymus and spleen weighed more (p<0.05) in SB-1, and bursa registered more (p<0.05) weight in both SB groups compared to control. On d-21, areas of thymus medulla and spleen germinal centers were noted higher (p<0.05) in SB-1 group. The villus height and villus surface area increased (p<0.05) in duodenum and jejunum in both SB groups on d-21, and in SB-1 on d-35, respectively compared to ZnB and control. On d-21, number of goblet cells containing mucins of acidic nature increased (p<0.05) in all the segments of small intestines in SB-1 group compared to control, and on d-35 in ileum compared to other groups. Conclusion: In conclusion, SB improved growth performance and immunity as well as modulated morphology of lymphoid organs and gut mucosa in broiler chickens.
