  • We derive approximate maximum likelihood estimators of two parameters in a weighted exponential distribution, and derive the density function for the ratio Y=(X+Y) of two independent weighted exponential random variables X and Y, and then observe the skewness of the ratio density.

  • The structural behavior of continuous reinforced concrete deep beams is mainly controlled by the mechanical relationships associated with the shear span-to-effective depth ratio, flexural reinforcement ratio, load and support conditions, and material properties. In this study, a simple indeterminate strut-tie model which reflects characteristics of the complicated structural behavior of the continuous deep beams is presented. In addition, the reaction and load distribution ratios defined as the fraction of load carried by an exterior support of continuous deep beam and the fraction of load transferred by a vertical truss mechanism, respectively, are proposed to help structural designers for the analysis and design of continuous reinforced concrete deep beams by using the strut-tie model approaches of current design codes. In the determination of the load distribution ratio, a concept of balanced shear reinforcement ratio requiring a simultaneous failure of inclined concrete strut and vertical steel tie is introduced to ensure a ductile shear failure of reinforced concrete deep beams, and the primary design variables including the shear span-to-effective depth ratio, flexural reinforcement ratio, and concrete compressive strength are implemented after thorough parametric numerical analyses. In the companion paper, the validity of the presented model and load distribution ratio was examined by applying them in the evaluation of the ultimate strength of multiple continuous reinforced concrete deep beams, which were tested to failure.

  • We consider estimation of the right-tail probability in a log-Laplace random variable, As we derive the density of ratio of two independent log-Laplace random variables, the k-th moment of the ratio is represented by a special mathematical function. and hence variance of the ratio can be represented by a psi-function.

  • The present study investigated the two-phase flow characteristics of refrigerant R-22 in T-branch with horizontal and vertical inlet tube The key experimental parameters were the orientation of inlet and branch tubes (horizontal and vertical), diameter ratio of branch tube to inlet tube (1 and 0.61), inlet mass flux (200~500 kg/$m^2$s) and inlet quality (0.1~0.4). Predicted pressure profile agreed with the measured data within 25.4%. The flow distribution ratio decreased as the mass flux increased. The flow distribution ratio decreased by 12~25% as the tube diameter ratio decreased from 1 to 0.61, and decreased by 38~47% as the orientation of branch changed from horizontal to vertical upward for horizontal inlet tubes. As the orientation of inlet tube changed from horizontal to vertical upward for horizontal branch, the flow distribution ratio increased by 15~68%, but the quality in the branch tube decreased by 28~92% due to phase separation.

  • In this study, it is observed that the distribution of combustion chamber volume affects the volumetric efficiency. The distribution ratio was adjusted by controlling combustion chamber volume of head and piston bowl one. Four cases were investigated, which are the combination of different distribution ratios and different compression ratios (9.8-10.0). A commercial SOHC 3-valve engine was modified by cutting the bottom face of the head and/or replacing the piston by the one that has different volume. The result shows that the less the head side volume, the more volumetric efficiency is achieved under the same compression ratio. It is also observed that increasing volumetric efficiency results in early knock occurrence due to increased "real" compression ratio. To consider reliability in estimating the volumetric efficiency, we examined the sensitivity of the AFR equation to possible errors in emission measurements. It is shown that the volumetric efficiency, which is calculated by measuring AFR and fuel consumption, can be controlled in 1% error. 1% error.

  • This study aims at scrutinizing the relationships among the frequency distribution of voids the relative density and the shear strength for the three types of different granular materials. The main results summarized are as follows: (1) The frequency distribution of void ratio of glass beads can be approximated by the negative exponential distribution proposed by Shahinpoor (1981), while as the particle shape changes from spherical to angular the frequency of the denser voids decreases and the distributions are well presented by the beta distribution. (2) For all materials, the standard deviation of void ratio increases with decreasing both the relative density of the material and sphericity of particle. (3) It was found that shear strength of the material was a function of not only the mean void ratio and its standard deviation, but also of the shape of the probability density function of the distribution of void ratio. The more the frequency distribution of void inclines towards the denser voids, the higher the shear strength of the material and vice versa.

  • The effect of helical intake port geometry on in-cylinder swirl flow characteristics was studied. Two helical intake ports were selected to change swirl ratio, mean flow coefficient with the variation of valve lifts, valve eccentricity ratios and axial distance. The measurements were made by using an impulse swirl meter. The port B modified to increase the swirl ratio( $R_{s}$) had the tendency of the increased non-dimensional rig swirl ( $N_{r}$) distribution in comparison with that of the port A. And the $N_{r}$ distribution was remarkably improved at low valve lifts. The modification of the geometry to increase the swirl ratio ( $R_{s}$) in helical intake port resulted in the decrease of the mean flow coefficient ( $C_{f(mean)}$) regardless of valve eccentricity ratio ( $N_{y}$). And also non-dimensional rig swirl ( $N_{r}$) in the high valve lift affected the calculation of swirl ratio considerably.onsiderably.

  • In this paper, an optimal power distribution algorithm is proposed for the small electric vehicle with front in-line and rear in-wheel motors. First, it is assumed that the vehicle driving torque and velocity are given conditions. And, an optimal problem is defined that finding the front and rear motor torques which minimizes the battery power. From the above optimization problem, the optimized front-rear motor torque distribution map is obtained. And, the vehicle simulations are performed to verify the performance of the optimal power distribution algorithm which is proposed in this study. The simulations are performed based on the federal urban driving schedule for two cases which are constant ratio power distribution, and optimal power distribution. From the simulation results, it is found that the optimal power distribution shows the 6.3% smaller battery energy consumption than the constant ratio power distribution.

  • In this paper, we consider estimators and a condence interval for a reliability in two independent right truncated Rayleigh distributions and consider the density of a ratio in two independent right truncated Rayleigh distributions. And we obtain the density of an estimator for a changing point in the density of a ratio in two independent right truncated Rayleigh distributions.

  • Planar laser-induced fluorescence(PLIF) has been widely used to obtain two dimensional fuel distribution. Acetone PLIF is chosen because fluorescence signal from acetone as a fluorescent tracer is less sensitive to oxygen quenching than other dopants. Acetone PLIF is applied to measure quantitative air excess ratio distribution in an engine fueled with LPG. Acetone is excited by KrF excimer laser (248nm) and its fluorescence image is acquired by ICCD camera with a cut-off filter to suppress Mie scattering from the laser light. For the purpose of quantifying PLIF signal, an image processing method including the correction of laser sheet beam profile is suggested. Raw images are divided by each intensity of laser energy and profile of laser sheet beam. Inhomogeneous fluorescence images scaled with the reference data, which is taken by a calibration process, are converted to air excess ratio distribution. This investigation shows instantaneous quantitative measurement of planar air excess ratio distribution for gaseous fuel.
