Turbine Case Containment Capability Evaluation Using Finite Element Analysis (유한요소해석을 이용한 터빈 케이스의 컨테인먼트 성능 평가)

  • In this study, we used finite element analysis to conduct a containment capability evaluation of a turbine case. When analyzing the impact behavior of structures subjected to impact loads, it is important to consider the strain rate, as it affects the increase in flow stress. Therefore, we applied three material models (Cowper-Symonds, Johnson-Cook, and Modified Johnson-Cook) for the impact analysis. To validate these material models, we performed an impact test on an aluminum 6061 plate. By comparing and analyzing the experimental and analytical results, we determined that the Modified Johnson-Cook material model exhibited the least error. As a result, we applied this material model to evaluate the containment capability of the turbine case. This evaluation involved determining the occurrence of penetration, as well as the stress and strain induced at the collision area due to the initial velocity of the blade.

  • Process capability indices (PCI) $C_p\;C_{pk},\;C_m,\;and\;C_{pmk}$ are widely used to evaluate the process performance. The PCI's have been evolved to consider the 'off targetness' more adequately. However, all of these indices are found to be inconsistent with the proportion of nonconforming items, in some cases. That is, the PCI for a process may result in higher value even when the proportion of defectives increases. For these reasons, we propose a new capability index, $c_{pd}$, which is consistent with the defect rate. The characteristics of the new PCI, $c_{pd}$ are investigated with respect to the existing PCI's. Some statistical properties of an estimator for $c_{pd}$ are also investigated by a Monte Carlo simulation. Sensitivity study under minor deviation from normality is also performed to show the robustness of $c_{pd}$. A good estimator for $c_{pd}$ is under study.

  • Recently, the prevention of crime using CCTV draws special in accordance with the higher crime incidence rate. Therefore security systems like a CCTV with audio capability are developing for giving an instant alarm. This paper proposes an analysis on screams and ambient noises for security systems with audio capability. This analysis result will be helpful for security systems to detect screams well with various ambient noises in real environment.

  • Based on the concept of Load Supplying Capability of a transmission network, we provides an information concerning network adequacy. In particular this paper describes an algorithm regarding load supplying margin of transmission networks. And a different growth rate is assigned to each load point so that various demand characteristics can be taken into consideration at respective locations. In addition to this, in this paper, both generation and transmission equipment will be considered in determining the system capability. A 10 bus model system is used to demonstrate the capability of the proposed algorithm.

  • In modern EHV (Extra High Voltage) class GCBs (Gas Circuit Breakers), the interruption capability for SLF (Short Line Fault) is one of the most important aspects of performance required for GCBs. Up to now, the SLF interruption capability of EHV class GCBs was partially assisted by the adoption of capacitors able to decrease the dV/dt of the TRV (Transient Recovery Voltage), particularly the TRV on the line side. This paper describes the technique to increase the SLF interruption capability of EHV class GCBs as well as the procedure to develop capacitorless l70kV 50kA GCB.

A Comparison Study between Korean and Foreign Shipping Lines on Logistics Service Attributes and Capability (국적선사와 외국적선사의 물류서비스 속성과 역량에 관한 비교 연구)

  • In order to obtain and maintain competitive advantage, under rapidly changing maritime environment, liners should make efforts to reinforce their logistics service capabilities. Most of all, for this, shipping lines should accurately recognize and evaluate their logistics service attributes. In the present research, various logistics service attributes for ocean carriers were selected from previous studies and the observed data for 6 main service attributes were collected through a questionnaire survey to 31 maritime experts. Moreover, shipping lines' relative logistics service capabilities were measured by an additional survey process. The comparative gravity between core evaluation factors were measured by AHP technique and the relative capability levels of 2 Korean liners and 5 foreign shipping companies were assessed by utilizing a fuzzy model. The empirical result presents that Korean liners are superior at customer service capability but inferior at freight rate competitiveness. This research shows that Korean liners are ranked at high position for overall logistics service capabilities and focusing on the differentiation strategy but not on the cost related strategy.

  • Elastostatic compression tests were carried out on amorphous alloys to evaluate their energy absorption capability during homogeneous deformation at room temperature. Experiments demonstrated that a compressive stress below the global yield imposed on amorphous alloys for extended periods causes homogeneous plastic strain associated with the irreversible structural disordering. During the disordering process, free volume was created, dissipating the externally applied strain energy and the rate of creation was found to converge to a saturated value. We evaluated the capability of energy absorption of amorphous alloys during homogeneous deformation using recent theories on the evolution of the structural state.

  • Trimethylglycine, commonly named betaine, is the most simple amphoteric molecule. It is completely vegetal (1,2), as it is produced in the sugar industry by industrial chromatography of molasses. While abundantly used in foods and diet supplements, many interesting applications in cosmetics have recently been investigated, like its capability to increase the volume and stability of foams in surfactant solutions. For its special chemical structure (it is the internal salt of a weak acid and a strong alkali) trimethylglycine is a solvent and buffering agent for strong acids and Lewis' acids. It allows to improve the efficiency of $\alpha$- and $\beta$-hydroxy acids in increasing the physiological rate of epidermal cell renewal, while keeping a low skin-irritation level. In oral care cosmetics, it acts as a mucous membrane protectant (3). For its special water co-ordination capability, its solubilising power, polymer swelling capability, after-feel improvement in hair products, skin moisturization and elasticity enhancing properties, trimethylglycine provides unusual characteristics to many products intended for skin maintenance (4).(omitted)

  • There are regulations on each building for its classification and It is corresponding determined contract demand. For transformer's capability calculation algorithm, cumulated power information of each customer is used to analysis the correlation between power usage and Demand Rate. By modeling this using Least Square Method, it can be targeted to recognize the pattern of transformer use in the past and make a prediction on it in the future.

  • The change of water discharge capability of sluice caisson for tidal power plant according to installation of the rubble mound was investigated by performing laboratory experiment. The experiment was carried out in an open channel flume with a great care to measure flow rate and water level in the flume accurately. Eight different sluice caisson models were used in the experiment. The water discharge capabilities of seven sluice models decreased with respect to the placement of the rubble mound, while increased for only one sluice model. On average, the values of discharge coefficient decreased by approximately 10% when the sluice models were placed on the rubble mound. It is concluded that the shape of the rubble mound can affect the water discharge capability of the sluice caisson, so that its shape should be significantly considered in the design of the sluice caisson, especially when it is deployed in a site of relatively deeper depth.
