We researched about a bulk metallic glass system as an additive to an Ag paste for high temperature thermoelectric modules. Bulk metallic glass (BMG) ribbons were produced by using a rapid solidification process (RSP) under a cooling rate condition higher than $10^{\circ}C/sec$. We investigated BMG characteristics of the ribbons by means of x-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) in order to evaluate the glass transition temperature ($T_g$) and the recrystallization temperature ($T_x$) lower than $400^{\circ}C$. A milling process was also developed to apply the BMG ribbons to a commercial Al paste as an additive for lower sintering temperature.
A dense nanostructured MoSi$_{2}$-SiC composite was synthesized by a pulsed current activated combustion synthesis method within 2 min of one step from mechanically activated powders of Mo$_{2}$C and Si. Simultaneous combustion synthesis and consolidation were accomplished under the combined effects of a pulsed current and mechanical pressure. Highly dense MoSi$_{2}$-SiC with a relative density of up to 98% was produced under simultaneous application of an 80 MPa pressure and pulsed current. The average grain size and mechanical properties of the composite were investigated.
Y2O3-MgO nanocomposites are promising materials for hypersonic infrared windows and domes due to their excellent midIR transmittance and mechanical properties. In this work, influence of SPS heating rate on the microstructure, IR transmittance, and mechanical properties of Y2O3-MgO nanocomposites was investigated. It was found that the average grain size decreases with a decreasing heating rate, which can be attributed to high defect concentration by rapid heating and deformation during densification. Also, the residual porosity decreases with a decreasing heating rate, which is ascribed to the enhancement of grain boundary diffusion by a large grain-boundary area (a small grain size). Consequently, high transmittance and hardness were attained by the low heating rate. On the other hand, the mechanical strength showed little difference with the heating rate change, which is somewhat different from the general knowledge on ceramics and will be discussed in this letter.
P-type $\beta$-FeSi$_2$ with a nominal composition of $Fe_{0.92}Mn_{0.08}Si_2$ powders has been produced by mechanical alloying process. As-milled powders were spray dried and consolidated by atmospheric plasma thermal spraying as a rapid sintering process. As-milled powders were of metastable state and fully transformed to $\beta$-$FeSi_2$ phase by subsequent isothermal annealing. However, as-thermal sprayed $Fe_{0.92}Mn_{0.08}Si_2$ consisted of untransformed mixture of $\alpha$-$Fe_2Si_{5}$ and $\varepsilon$-FeSi phases. Isothermal annealing has been carried out to induce transformation to the thermoelectric semiconducting $\beta$-$FeSi_2$ phase. Isothermal annealing at $845^{\circ}C$ in vacuum gradually led to the thermoelectric semiconducting $\beta$-$FeSi_2$ phase transformation, but some residual metallic $\alpha$ and $\varepsilon$ phases were unavoidable even after prolonged annealing. Thermoelectric properties of $\beta$-$FeSi_2$ materials before and after isothermal annealing were evaluated. Seebeck coefficient increased and electric conductivity decreased with increasing annealing time due to the phase transition from metallic phases to semiconducting phases. Thermoelectric properties showed gradual increment, but overall properties appeared to be inferior to those of vacuum hot pressed specimens.
Multiferroic materials are of great interest because of its potential applications in the design of devices combining magnetic, electronic and optical functionalities. Among various multiferroic materials, $BiFeO_3$(BFO) is known to be one of the intensively focused mainly due to the possibility of multiferroism at device working temperature (> $200^{\circ}C$). However, leakage current and weak polarization resulting from oxygen deficiency and crystalline defect should be resolved. Furthermore the magnetic ordering of pure BFO mainly prefers to have antiferromagnetic coupling. Up to now many attempts have been performed to improve the ferromagnetic and the ferroelectric properties of BFO by doping. In this work, we investigated the effects of Ni substitution on the multiferroism of bulk BFO. Four BFO samples (a pure BFO and three Ni-doped BFO's; $BiFe_{0.99}Ni_{0.01}O_3$, $BiFe_{0.98}Ni_{0.02}O_3$ and $BiFe_{0.97}Ni_{0.03}O_3$) were synthesized by the standard solid-state reaction and rapid sintering technique. The XRD results reveal that Ni atoms are substituted into Fe-sites and give rise to phase transition of cubic to rhombohedal. By using vibrating sample magnetometer and standard ferroelectric tester, the multiferroic properties at room temperature were characterized. We found that the magnetic moment of Ni-doped BFO turned out to be maximized for 3% of Ni dopant.
Crystlline silicon solar cells markets are increasing at rapid pace. now, crystlline silicon solar cells markets screen-printing solar cell is occupying. screen-printing solar cells manufacturing process are very quick, there is a strong point which is a low cost. but silicon and metal contact, uses Ag & Al pates. because of, high contact resistance, high series resistance and sintering inside process the electric conductivity decreases with 1/3. and In pastes ingredients uses Ag where $80{\sim}90%$ is metal of high cost. because of low cost solar cells descriptions is difficult. therefore BCSC(Buried Contact Solar Cell) is developed. and uses light-induced plating, ln-line galvanization developed equipments. Ni/Cu matel contact solar cells researches. in Germany Fraunhofer ISE. In order to manufacture high-efficiency solar cells, metal selections are important. metal materials get in metal resistance does small, to be electric conductivity does highly. efficiency must raise an increase with rise of the curve factor where the contact resistance of the silicon substrate and is caused by few with decrement of series resistance. Ni metal materials the price is cheap, Ti comes similar resistance. Cu and Ag has the electric conductivity which is similar. and Cu price is cheap. In this paper, Ni/Cu/Ag metal contact cell with screen printing manufactured, silicon metal contact comparison and analysis.
A deep understanding of the metallic silver catalysts formation process on oxide support and the formation mechanism is of great scientific and practical meaning for exploring better catalyst preparing procedures. Herein the thermal decomposition process of supported silver catalyst with silver oxalate as the silver precursor in the presence of ethylenediamine and ethanolamine is carefully investigated by employing a variety of characterization techniques including thermal analysis, in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The formation mechanism of supported silver particles was revealed. Results showed that formation of metallic silver begins at about $100^{\circ}C$ and activation process is essentially complete below $145^{\circ}C$. Formation of silver was accompanied by decomposition of oxalate group and removal of organic amines. Catalytic performance tests using the epoxidation of ethylene as a probe reaction showed that rapid activation (for 5 minutes) at a relatively low temperature ($170^{\circ}C$) afforded materials with optimum catalytic performance, since higher activation temperatures and/or longer activation times resulted in sintering of the silver particles.
The microwave dielectric properties of (1-x)La2/3TiO3-xLaAlO3 system in which LaAlO3 having $\varepsilon$r$\geq$90 and positive $\tau$f was investigated. The crystal system of (1-x)La2/3TiO3-xLaAlO3 was pseudo-cubic in the range of 0.1$\leq$x$\leq$0.07. Its lattice constant increased with increasing x in spite that the amount of LaAlO3 containing of smaller Al(0.57 $\AA$) ion than Ti(0.64 $\AA$) increased. As the amount of LaAlO3 increased from x=0.1 to 0.9, the relative dielectric constant ($\varepsilon$r) decreased from 50 to 23 and the temperature coefficient of resonant frequency($\tau$f) decreased from +84 to -50. On the other hand, the value of Q.f0 reached a maximum (148,000 at 7 GHz) at x=0.7, where a rapid increase in the peak intensity of XRD occured, and further increased after prolonged sintering. The microwave dielectric properties of $\varepsilon$r=37, Q.f0=47,000 (at 7 GHz), and $\tau$f=-2 ppm/$^{\circ}C$ were obtained near 0.6La2/3TiO3-0.4LaAlO3 (x=0.4) composition.
Degradation in Solid Oxide Fuel Cell performance can be ascribed to the following fundamental processes from the materials chemical point of view; that is, diffusion in solids and reaction with gaseous impurities. For SOFC materials, diffusion in solids is usually slow in operation temperatures $800\sim1000^{\circ}C$. Even at $800^{\circ}C$, however, a few processes are rapid enough to lead to some degradations; namely, Sr diffusion in doped ceria, cation diffusion in cathode materials, diffusion related with metal corrosion, and sintering of nickel anodes. For gaseous impurities, chromium containing vapors are important to know how the chemical stability of cathode materials is related with degradation of performance. For LSM as the most stable cathode among the perovskite-type cathodes, electrochemical reduction reaction of $CrO_3$(g) at the electrochemically active sites is crucial, whereas the rest of the cathodes have the $SrCrO_4$ formation at the point where cathodes meet with the gases, leading to rather complicated processes to the degradations, depending on the amount and distribution of reacted Cr component. These features can be easily generalized to other impurities in air or to the reaction of nickel anodes with gaseous impurities in anode atmosphere.
