Winter crops have been recognized as an alternative to soil management for fertility and crop productivity in paddy soil. Recently, rape has been produced at winter season and there is little research results on reduction of N fertilizer by adding rape residues for rice cultivation. In this study, we investigated the productivity and quality of rice by applying with 0, 27, 63, $90kg\;ha^{-1}$ of N fertilizer after input of rape residues into soil for two years. The highest yield of rice was average $4.68Mg\;ha^{-1}$ at the treatment applied with the $90kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$ with rape residue. It was reduced to N rate from 31.6 to $43.2kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$ in comparison to $4.53Mg\;ha^{-1}$ of maximum yield in treatment added $90kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$ with rape. Amylose content in rice was similar among treatments with/without rape residue, but protein content was lower in treatment with rape residue than in those without rape residue. In conclusion, input of rape residue in rice cultivation could be alternative to reduction of N fertilization and improvement of quality by adjusting rice productivity in paddy soil under cropping system.
This study empirically analyzes the economic validity of rape farmers. The analysis of economic evaluation is based on the benefit-cost analysis. Previous studies have undoubtedly expanded our understanding of the importance of substitution effects on a rapeseed for bio-fuels. However, earlier studies have mostly dealt with the concept of biodiesel's economics analysis, but this paper's attentions have been paid to the economic analysis of farm. The aim of this paper is suggesting the most appropriate policy brings about why farmhouses should cultivate the rape. To answer this question, this paper adopts a scenario analysis and the B/C ratio is used.
We established a strategy for bioethanol production using the hydrolysate of rape stem, in which the inhibitor cocktail was added intentionally. The final goal of this study was to circumvent the detoxification process when the hydrolysate of lignocelluloisic biomass contained the toxic substances in high concentration. When six yeast strains were examined, Sacchromyces cerevisiae ATCC 96581 and Pichia stipitis CBS 7126 were relatively resistant to inhibitor cocktail. Then, using strains 96581 and 7126, we designed a process strategy for bioethanol production, assuming that the concentration of toxic substance in the hydrolysate of rape stem was remarkably high. When strains 96581 and 7126 were inoculated simultaneously, it was observed that strain 7126 produced bioethanol as well as strain 96581, although the concentration of inhibitor cocktail was 18.2% (v/v). Finally, throughout this co-cultivation of strains 96581 and 7126, bioethanol was produced about 6.0 (g/L), and bioethanol yield reached at 0.4 (g-bioethanol/g-reducing sugar) (78.4% of theoretical value).
The results obtained from the experiments conducted to investigate Cruciferae plants in rape dependent on the amount of applied fertilizer in aspects of mineral nutrient uptake and on the effects of the composition of oil quality are as follows: Absorption of mineral nutrients in the respective pars of the plant body was high in nitorgen in the order of leaf and stem
Researches on industrial crops in Korea before 1962 were concentrated on fiber crops such as cotton, kenaf, hemp, ramie and flax. Then research works on oil crops, sugar crops and other high income crops were followed. However, no land is shared for the production of kenaf, flax, sugar beet, sweet sorghum and sunflower at present in Korea, while the cultivation of cotton, hemp, ramie and mat rush is decreasing continuously to the marginal point. At present researches are emphasized on oil crops such as seasame, peanut and perilla and high income medicinal herbs of which cultivating acreages are increasing. Numerous varieties were released as a result of active breeding works on industrial crops since 1962, i.e. 3 sesame varieties including "Suweon 21", 3 peanut varieties including "Seoduntangkong", and 6 rape varieties including "Yudal" in oil crops, one cotton variety "Mokpo 7", one hemp variety "MS4-1", and one kenaf variety "Suweon 2" in fiber crops, and two stevia varieties "Suweon 2" and "Suweon II" in sugar crops. Quality improvement of rape seeds and development of hybrid rapes utilizing male sterile lines are the most significant results of breeding works, while the establishment of vinyl mulching cultivation of sesame and peanut are the most successful results in agronomic researches during the last 20 years.re the most successful results in agronomic researches during the last 20 years.
Both agriculture and local tourism of Kagoshima prefecture where is located on the south-western region of the Japanese mainland, are the important industries. Although cabbage (Brassica oleracea) has been cultivated in recent decades in Kagoshima, clubroot disease caused by Plasmodiophora brassicae had never been observed. However, the disease in cabbage was reported in four regions last couple years. Our survey showed that one region is infested severely whereas others are slightly. In the most widely infested region, the disease was also observed in turnip rape (Brassica rapa) which is grown as ornamental plants for landscape design in early spring and important tourist attraction. Consequently, both agriculture and local tourism are damaged by clubroot. The increase of clubroot incidence in this region might be caused by significant increase of cabbage production, the expansion of cropping season throughout the year and continuous turnip rape cultivation in the same fields of cabbage for almost three decades. Therefore we are trying to estimate the risk of clubroot damage cultivation throughout the year in this region. We collected five isolates of resting spores and identified them as race 3, 4 and 9 by Williams' method, and as pathotype group 3 and 4 by classification system using clubroot resistant (CR) $F_1$ cultivars of Chinese cabbage as differential hosts as described in Hatakeyama et al.(2004). Furthermore, we found that these populations were avirulent to commercial CR cabbages. These results indicate that introduction of CR cabbage and breeding of turnip rape are the effective measures to solve our problem.

This study was conducted to determine the effect of seeding times and mixture rates of oat and forage rape on the growth characteristics and forage yields during rest periods from March to June after the harvest of potatoes in potato cultivation fields located in the areas about 600m above the sea level in Jeju. The experiment was a split plot desist with seeding times(early, middle and late March) sown . at intervals of ten days from early March to late March as the nam plots and mixture rates as subplots, consisted of oat single(150kg/ha), forage rape single(15kg/ha), oat/rape mixtures 75 : 25% (112.5kg/ha of oat and 3.75kg/ha of rape), oat/rape mixtures 50 : 50%(75kg/ha of oat and 7.5kg/ha of rape) and oat/rape mixtures 25 : 75%(37.5kg/ha of oat and 11.3kg/ha of rape). The germination and establishment of eat and rape were not significantly different among seeding times and mixture rates. The plant heights were higher when seeded middle March compared to seeding times of early and late March. The growth stage of the oats seeded early March was dough stage, while that of oats seeded middle or late March was milk stage. The dry matter yields per ha were higher(p<0.05) when seeded middle March than those of seeding time of early and late March. The crude protein contents of rape single, mixtures and oat single treatments were 15.9, 12.4∼14.5 and 8.5%, respectively.
This study includes the transformation of genes such as ORE7, the increase of gene expression, and the use of the bar gene as a selectable marker that shows herbicide resistance with Agrobacterium tumefaciens using hypocotyls from the oilseed rape "Youngsan" cultivar. To establish an Agrobacterium transformation system for the production of oilseed rape with a high-yield trait, infection time and co-cultivation period with Agrobacterium were tested. Therefore, when hypocotyls from the oilseed rape "Youngsan" cultivar were infected with Agrobacterium for 20 min and co-cultivated for 3 days, approximately 32-36 putatively transformed hypocotyls with shoots including roots survived from 100 inoculated hypocotyls after 4 weeks of transformation on a selection medium containing 20 mg/L of phosphinothricin (PPT) as a selectable agent. Additionally, a PCR assay was performed to confirm the insertion of target genes and showed the presence of the ORE7 gene as a high-yielding trait and the bar gene as a selectable marker. Treatment with 0.5% (v/v) Basta solution as a selectable agent for 6 days with leaves from transformed oilseed rape expressed the bar gene. Therefore, this study can contribute to the development of special oilseed rapes containing agriculturally useful traits such as herbicide resistance, drought tolerance, high yielding traits, and high oleic acid content.
The objective of this study was to determine the effectiveness of rapeseed meal in controlling soil nematode. Two different rapeseed meals (Jeju local rape varieties and 'Sunmang' variety) were mixed with the soil to control nematodes environmentally. When soil physical properties in the rapeseed meal-mixed soils were analyzed, OM (organic matter), $P_2O_5$, Ca, Mg, CEC (Cation Exchange Capacity) value increased. Especially, the level of OM was 3-fold higher than control soil. Glucosinolate content of rapeseed meal was higher in Jeju local rape varieties than 'Sunmang' variety. The major components of glucosinolates were consisted of progoitrin, gluconapin, glucobrassiaca napin, and sinigrin. These components were likely to be involved in reducing nematode density.
Rapeseed(Brassica napus L.) is an important oil crop as a vegetable oil, concentrated feed and industrial materials. The name "canola" was registered in 1979 by the Western Canadian Oilseed Crushers Association to describe "double-low" varieties. Double low indicates that the processed oil contains less than 2% erucic-acid and the meal less than 3mg/g of glucosinolates. Today annual worldwide production of rapeseed is approximately 35 million tons on 24 million hectares. China accounts for 33% of the world production and the European Economic Community for nearly 32%. Canola ranks 3rd in production among the world's oilseed crops following soybeans, sunflowers, peanuts and cottonseed. The recent advances in genomics and in gene function studies has allowed us to understand the detailed genetic basis of many complex traits, such as flowering time, height, and disease resistance. The manipulation of seed oil content via transgene insertion has been one of the earliest successful applications of modern biotechnology in agriculture. For example, the first transgenic crop with a modified seed composition to be approved for unrestricted commercial cultivation in the US was a lauric oil, rape-seed, grown in 1995. There were also some significant early successes, mostly notably the achievement of 40% to 60% lauric acid content in rapeseed oil, which normally accumulates little or no lauric acid. The name "$\textrm{Laurical}^{TM}$" was registered in 1995 by Calgene Inc. Nevertheless, attempts to achieve high levels of other novel fatty acids in seed oils have met with much less success and there have been several reports that the presence of novel fatty acids in transgenic plants can sometimes lead to the induction of catabolic pathways which break down the novel fatty acid, i.e. the plant recognizes the "strange" fatty acid and, far from tolerating it, may even actively eliminate it from the seed oil. It is likely that, in the future, transgenic oil crops and newly domesticated oil crops will both be developed in order to provide the increased amount and diversity of oils which will be required for both edible and industrial use. It is important that we recognize that both approaches have both positive and negative points. It will be a combination of these two strategies that is most likely to supply the increasing demands for plant oils in the 21st century and beyond.ant oils in the 21st century and beyond.
