A Study on the Evaluation of Woody Tree Vitality of Artificial Ground: Case Study of Seoullo 7017

  • Background and objective: This study examined, compared, and analyzed the tree vitality of the trees growing on the artificial ground of Seoullo 7017 that transformed the overpass that was to be demolished into a "sky garden" using portable tree pots. Methods: Based on the summer season when the metabolic activity of plants is most active, this study measured the cambial electrical resistance in four directions(east, west, south and north), using the Shigometer (model OZ-93, Osmose) and compared the location and analysis of pots according to their means and standard errors. Results: Meanwhile, according to the analysis, vitality was relatively superior in pots with a big diameter, trees planted individually than in groups, trees of the ramp section rather than the bridge section, and in the southwest direction of the cambium. Conclusion: This study revealed the improper condition of the planting plan and implementation on the site, where various species of trees are displayed in a poor environment. Despite the significant assessment of the vitality of various trees introduced within Seoullo 7017 for the first time, this study is limited in that the data used were measured only once in summer. In this regard, it raised the need for continuous interest in and monitoring of a special plant environment and development of proper maintenance and management techniques, along with follow-up research on seasonal and temperature conditions, soil moisture and root development conditions to supplement this research.

심포일을 갖는 가스 포일 저널 베어링의 성능 예측 (Performance Predictions of Gas Foil Journal Bearing with Shim Foils)

  • This paper presents a computational model of a gas foil journal bearing with shim foils between the top foil and bumps, and predicts its static and dynamic performance. The analysis takes the previously developed simple elastic foundation model for the top foil-bump structure and advances it by adding foil models for the "shim foil" and "outer top foil." The outer top foil is installed between the (inner) top foil and bumps, and the shim foil is installed between the inner top foil and outer top foil. Both the inner and outer top foils have an arc length of $360^{\circ}$, but the arc length of the shim foil is shorter, which causes a ramp near its leading edge in the bearing clearance profile. The Reynolds equation for isothermal and isoviscous ideal gas solves the hydrodynamic pressure that develops within the bearing clearance with preloads due to the ramp. The centerline pressure and film thickness predictions show that the shim foil mitigates the peak pressure occurring at the loading direction, and broadens the positive pressure as well as minimum film thickness zones except for the shortest shim foil arc length of $180^{\circ}$. In general, the shim foil decreases the journal eccentricity, and increases the power loss, direct stiffness, and damping coefficients. As the shim foil arc length increases, the journal eccentricity decreases while the attitude angle, minimum film thickness, and direct stiffness/damping coefficients in the horizontal direction increase.

트럼펫 IC 램프의 운전조건과 교통사고 분석 (Analysis of Driving Conditions and Traffic Accidents in the Case of Trumpet Interchange Ramps)

  • 본 연구는 트럼펫 IC 램프의 교통사고를 다룬다. 연구의 목적은 회전방향(그리고 기하구조 요소와의 조합)에 따른 교통사고와의 관계를 분석하는데 있다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 트럼펫 IC 연결로의 회전방향과 종단경사와의 조합 및 회전방향과 곡선반경과의 조합에 따른 교통사고와의 관계분석에 중점을 둔다. 귀무가설을 검정한 결과 트럼펫 IC 연결로 회전방향에 따른 평균사고율과 평균사고건수는 각각 신뢰수준 90%와 95%신뢰수준에서 기각되었다 또한 트럼펫 IC 연결로 회전방향-종단경사의 조합과 회전방향-곡선반경의 조합에서도 평균사고건수와 평균사고율은 모두 95%신뢰수준에서 기각되었다. 요약하면, 우회전 이동류가 좌회전에 비해 더 위험한 것으로 분석된다. 또한 우회전-상향 램프와 좌회전-곡선반경 200이상 램프가 타 램프에 비해 교통사고 잠재력이 더 높은 것으로 분석된다.

다중 대역폭을 갖는 FMCW 레이다 송수신기 설계 및 제작 (Design and Manufacture of FMCW Radar with Multi-Frequency Bandwidths)

  • 본 연구에서는 X-밴드 대역 FMCW(frequency modulated continuous wave) 기반의 다중대역폭를 갖는 영상 레이다 설계와 자체 제작된 레이다 시스템의 성능시험 결과를 선보인다. 다중대역폭을 갖는 FMCW 레이다 송신기 설계를 위해 300 MHz와 500 MHz 대역폭을 갖는 두 개의 톱니파 조합을 주파수 변조신호로 활용하였으며, X-밴드 대역의 수신 신호로부터 비트 주파수(beat frequency)를 효과적으로 수신하기 위해 L-밴드 대역 신호발생기와 주파수 변환회로가 혼합된 송 수신회로를 구성하였다. 자체 설계/제작된 레이다의 다중대역폭 성능시험을 위해 송신기 최대 출력 35 dBm, 데이터수집 장치의 샘플링 주파수 1.2 MHz와 기록시간 1 ms로 시스템을 구성하였으며, 대역폭 500 MHz와 300 MHz를 갖는 변조신호로부터 거리방향과 방위각방향 해상도(0.28 m, 0.26 m)와 (0.44 m, 0.27 m)를 각각 확인하였다.

공동주택 지하주차장의 풍력환기 성능에 관한 연구 - 환기구 면적 및 주변건물의 영향 - (A Study on Ventilation Performance driven by Wind Force in Underground Parking Lots of Apartment - Influence of Opening Size and Surrounding Building -)

  • As a series of studies about natural ventilation driven by wind in basement parking lots of apartment, the influence of opening size and surrounding buildings on ventilation rate was analyzed. Natural ventilation in underground parking lots almost rely on wind than temperature difference. To investigate natural ventilation driven by wind, wind tunnel tests by using scale model and tracer gas method were conducted. $CO_2$-gas concentration was measured, natural ventilation rates were calculated. The experimental results showed that the natural ventilation rate is more reliable to wind direction and surrounding building than opening size and distance between buildings. It was verified that surrounding buildings play a principal role in increasing air flow rate by accelerating wind speed, and growing turbulence intensity. And it showed that ventilation performance is able to be increased by oblique wind to entrance ramp than head on wind in underground parking lots with surrounding buildings.

  • Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian finite element methods gain interest for the capability to control mesh geometry independently from material geometry, the ALE methods are used to create a new undistorted mesh for the fluid domain. In this paper we use the ALE technique to solve fuel slosh problem. Fuel slosh is an important design consideration not only for the fuel tank, but also for the structure supporting the fuel tank. "Fuel slosh" can be generated by many ways: abrupt changes in acceleration (braking), as well as abrupt changes in direction (highway exit-ramp). Repetitive motion can also be involved if a "sloshing resonance" is generated. These sloshing events can in turn affect the overall performance of the parent structure. A finite element analysis method has been developed to analyze this complex event. A new ALE formulation for the fluid mesh has been developed to keep the fluid mesh integrity during the motion of the tank. This paper explains the analysis capabilities on a technical level. Following the explanation, the analysis capabilities are validated against theoretical using potential flow for calculating fuel slosh frequency.

The Effect of Various Wheelchair Handle Directions on Muscle Activity of Adult Male Trunks When Climbing Ramps

  • Purpose: This study examined the effects of wheelchair handle directions on the trunk muscle activity of adult males when climbing ramps. It also evaluated the wheelchair attendant's physical discomfort during tasks. Methods: Healthy males aged over 20 years were chosen and the direction of wheelchair handle grip was randomly selected. The grips included a general grip with ulnar deviation, a medial grip with wrist pronation, and a neutral grip with a neutral wrist. The trunk muscle activity was measured using surface electromyography. Furthermore, the physical discomfort of wheelchair attendants was subjectively evaluated using the Borg CR-10 Scale, which rates the perceived exertion. In addition, the SPSS 18.0 program was used perform repeated measure ANOVA to compare muscle activity and subjective discomfort during the interventions. The contrast test was also conducted with a significance level (α) of 0.05. Results: There was significant difference between the general grip and the medial grip in the rhomboid major muscle and the lumbar erector spinae muscle (p<0.05). In addition, there was significant difference between the general grip and the neutral grip in the rhomboid major muscle and the lumbar erector spinae muscle (p<0.05). Further, there was significant difference between the general grip and the neutral grip in subjective discomfort (p<0.05). Conclusion: In this study, adult male trunk muscle activity and subjective discomfort were lowest when using the neutral grip while climbing ramps. Accordingly, we suggest that neutral grips will help improve the function of the musculoskeletal system and reduce the subjective discomfort by putting less strain on the trunk muscles and maximizing efficiency with less force.

유니버설디자인 개념에 의거한 대학내 학생편의시설 평가 및 개선방향에 대한 연구 - 미국 텍사스주를 중심으로 - (A Study on the Evaluation and Improvement of Student Convenient Facilities at University Campuses, based on Universal Design Concept - Focused on the university campuses in Texas, U.S.A. -)

  • Student halls and their convenient facilities have been a focal point for various student activities at university campus. It has been for most of the student a place of unique memories and of attachment often associated with those good and bad school days. However, it is questionable whether these facilities are supportive and accessible for all of the students and other users including the handicapped. Therefore, based on the concept of UD(universal design) which was widely applied to U.S. institutions, this study intended to evaluate student hall facilities in U.S. and to provide an improvement direction for Korean UD application. For that purpose, four universities were selected for an in-depth analysis and 76 survey indices were utilized based on previous research. It was found that (1) design consideration without braille sign for VIP(visually impaired person) in student buildings can be differently approached with electronic devices; (2) the best demonstration of UD in student buildings can be seen in spacious flat pathway, easy access through ramp and wide entry area, necessary for people in wheel-chairs, but used by all, implying an increase of the ratio of public space; (3) one of the good UD features is an attractive physical environment rather than institutional appearance, in which they ultimately will support and completely adaptable at optimal levels by everyone; (4) consistent maintenance and management maximize the potential of UD principles and minimize physical limitations.

언양 신흥단층의 기하학적.운동학적 특성으로부터 해석된 경상분지 양산단층대 남부의 단층운동사 (The movement history of the southern part of the Yangsan Fault Zone interpreted from the geometric and kinematic characteristics of the Sinheung Fault, Eonyang, Gyeongsang Basin, Korea)

  • 울산시 울주군 언양읍 북부 신흥마을 입구에 북서-남동 방향으로 트렌치된 단면에서 양산단층대의 주단층과 제4기 단층이 관찰되었다. 본 논문은 신흥마을 입구의 트렌치 단면에서 조사된 양산단층대의 기반암 단층(신흥단층)과 제4기 단층(제4기 신흥단층)의 기하학적 운동학적 특성연구로부터 양산단층대 남부의 단층 운동사를 해석하였다 신흥마을 입구 트렌치 단면에서는 단층접촉으로 반복되어 산출하는 백악기 하양층군의 퇴적암류와 유천층군의 화산암류 그리고 이들 기반암류를 부정 합으로 피복하는 제4기 퇴적층 등이 산출하고, 본 연구결과 양산단층대의 형성과 관련된 적어도 2회의 주향-이동 단층운동 (D1, D2)과 이후 적어도 2회의 역-이동 단층운동(D3, D4)이 인지된다 (1) D1 단층운동: 양산단층대의 주 단층을 향하여 퇴적암류의 층리를 고각화시키는 주향-이동 단층운동. (2) D2 단층운동: 고각화된 층리를 단층면으로 하는 우수 주향-이동 단층운동 주요 특징적인 구조요소로서는 북북동 방향의 준 수평적인 우세한 단층조선과 준 수직적인 우세한 단층엽리 등이 있다. 양산단층대의 주요 단층암류는 D2 단층운동에 의해 형성되었다. (3) D3 단층운동: (동) 북동 주향에 (남)남동 내지 (북)북서 방향으로 중각 경사하는 단층면을 갖는 공역성 역-이동 단층운동 주요 특징적인 구조요소로서는 주향 방향의 단층조선을 중첩하는 경사 방향의 단층조선, D2 단층비지에 발달하는 S-C 구조 엽리, 비탈과 평탄 기하의 단층면, 단층운동에 수반된 비대칭 및 끌림 습곡과 붕괴구조 등이 있다. 양산단층대 주 단층면의 방향성은 주로 D3 단층운동에 의해 분산되었다. (4) D4 단층운동: 제4기 퇴적층내에 5-C 구조 엽리의 발달과 함께 제4기 퇴적층을 수 cm 변위시키는 제4기 역-이동 단층운동 양산단층대의 다른 제4기 단층과 같이 D4 단층면은 기반암의 D3 역-이동 단층면의 연장선상에 놓이고, 이들 단층은 동일한(북)북서-(남)남동 방향의 압축응력에 의해 형성되었다.

장애인 이용을 고려한 사회복지관 편의시설 평가 및 분석에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Evaluation and Analysis of Convenient Facilities in Social Welfare Hall through Consideration of the Disabled Person Use)

  • The number of the disabled is increasing every year. Growing interest in social welfare, but still the disabled person in places is restricted on the activities are due to obstacles. This study proposes an improvement direction through an research and analysis of installation status of convenient facilities in social welfare halls was planned after that the law of increase of convenience for the disabled person is enforced in 1998. This study analyzed nine social welfare halls of seoul including Yongsan-gu(GW), Guro-gu(GD, HW), Yeongdeungpo-gu(SG), Seodaemun-gu(SD), Dobong-gu(DB), Nowon-gu(NS), Seongbuk-gu(WG) and Dongdaemun-gu(JG). The evaluation criteria for the installation of convenient facilities for the disabled person in each social welfare hall based on the law of increase of convenience for the disabled person, and referred to other data. Also, review the criteria for the installation of convenient facilities, and grasp the present situation through the survey of convenient facilities in social welfare halls, and provides the installation standards of convenient facilities. The result are as followings. There were many problems to be improved in approach of the intermediate space, parking lot, entrance of the inside space and corridor that must be installed for the convenience of the disabled. In the intermediate space, the slope of the ramp, curb, induction handle etc. for a safety must be installed. Parking spaces for the disabled must be located closest to the main entrance, an induction marker or the handle, and the attachment of a directional sign etc. must be improved. In the inside space, it is convenient for the disabled person use to install an automatic door and swing door simultaneously at the main entrance. And, the height of the door handle, an induction block, a braille display panels of the appropriate height in the entrance, a braille display in start and end of the stairs handle, the handle of the side wall, the stairs to prevent slippage etc. must be improved in the corridors. The case of the sanitation which is a recommendation item is equipped formally with disabled toilets are difficult to use. Information and other convenience facilities for the disabled person in all the social welfare halls were not considered.
