This paper presents the first simulation model using EMTDC program to analyze the electrified train voltage distribution characteristics in ac auto-transformer fed railroads. In general, all of the electrified train supply system has the characteristics that the train supply line is a naturally non-symmetrical and unbalanced system. Also, it is needed to model the Scott transformer which invert the balanced 3-phase quantity into 2-phase. Therefore, the general simulation methodology using previous simplified equivalent circuit or RMS based program can't obtain the accurate results to reflect the real-time operation because these methodology is basically assumed on completely 3-phase balanced system. To overcome these defects, in this paper, the EMTDC simulation model to analysis the completely electrified railroad system with Scott transformer and AC auto-transformer is presented. Also, the correctness of EMTDC modeling is confirmed by the old basic concepts and we think that this EMTDC model has the future powerful capability for application of railroad system analysis.
Rail network authority have to do the safety ensuring activities including the maintenance of railway facility, integrated performance verification between the facilities and related rolling stock and safety inspections, etc. When constructing the new lines or revising the conventional lines, full system commissioning should be done before the revenue service with railway operator. To develop the optimal full system commissioning model, the status of domestic and foreign railway facility and railway accidents are analysed and the problems of the safety management are derived. As one of countermeasures for the problems, the procedures and criteria for the full system commissioning are developed.
In order to attenuate structural waves in railway track, damped mass-spring absorber system and spring supported system are considered that are attached continuously along the beam length. A mathematical model is presented for the propagation of structural waves on a finitely long, periodically supported classical beam. The model in this paper could represent a railway track where the beam represents the rail and an appropriately chosen support type represents the pad/sleeper/ballast system of a railway track. And in this study, it is presented that the measurement method of health monitoring of railway track.
When a railway vehicle runs in crosswinds, the unsteady aerodynamic forces acting on the train induced by the vehicle speed, crosswind velocity and local landforms are a common problem. To investigate the dynamic performance of a railway vehicle due to the influence of unsteady aerodynamic forces caused by local landforms, a vehicle aerodynamic model and vehicle dynamic model were established. Then, a wind-loaded vehicle system model was presented and validated. Based on the wind-loaded vehicle system model, the dynamic response performance of the vehicle, including safety indexes and vibration characteristics, was examined in detail. Finally, the effects of the crosswind velocity and vehicle speed on the dynamic response performance of the vehicle system were analyzed and compared.
Vehicle braking in non-electrified rail systems wastes energy. Advanced flywheel technology presents a way to capture and reuse this braking energy to improve vehicle efficiency and so reduce the operating costs and environmental impact of diesel trains. This paper highlights the suitability of flywheels for rail vehicle applications, and proposes a novel mechanical transmission system to apply regenerative braking using a flywheel energy storage device. A computational model is used to illustrate the operation and potential benefits of the energy storage system.
Railroad geotechnical information management system was developed by using Web GIS and DB in this study. The standardization of railroad geotechnical information is progressed by classifying three groups as like basic informations, vibration informations along railway lines and design drawings. The basic informations consisted of basic and dynamic properties of soils, geophysical exploration and seismic survey/exploration. And the specification for 'human exposure to whole-body vibration' was adopted to construct the vibration informations along railway lines. The informations as like drawings and photographs were saved by changing to graphic files in the standardization of design drawings. In the case of standardization of geographical information, the topographical maps(NGIS, 1:5000) were primarily used as digital maps. Another digital maps(KRRI, 1:5000) and their geographical DB based on NGI code system were added on this maps. The standardized informations were used to construct their database. And railroad information management system was developed using Entity-Relation(ER) model which had a good feasibility for expansion and transition to other system in designing stage of database. This system consisted of layer selection, search and analysis of geotechnical informations and Zeus DB was adopted for GIS operating and user interface. This system could be a good tool for saving, searching and analyzing the geotechnical and geophysical informations. These DB systems would offered the basic informations to plans, design and construction of railroad lines etc. in practical use.
This paper presents a novel fault location scheme on Korean AC electric railway systems. On AC railway system, because of long distance, 40[km] or above, between two railway substations, a fault location technique is very important. Since the fault current flows through the catenary system, it must be modeled exactly to analyze the fault current magnitude and fault location. In this paper, suggesting the novel scheme of fault location, a 9-conductor modeling technique including boost wires and impedance bonds is introduced based on the characteristics of Korean AC electric railway. After obtaining a 9-conductor modeling, the railway system is constructed for computer simulation by using PSCAD/EMTDC. By case studies, we can verify superiority of a new fault location scheme and propose a powerful model for fault analysis on electric railway systems.
It can be considered that the safety of software is combined with that of hardware, and also directly connected to system safety. Because the software in the railway system takes the form of Embedded that let it behave at the system level, instead of independent operation, the safety of the railway S/W is also important. The approach, for ensuring the quality and safety of those software, can be considered with two points of view. Those are views seeing from products, and from processes. The two points of approach are all necessary in the railway system. For the first of all, the process approach is to validate maturity of the organizations in accordance to the judging processes of organizations, which are specified by CMMI(Capability Maturity Model Integration) or SPICE(Software Process Improvement and Capability dEtermination: ISO/IECl5504). In this paper, as the first step of them, we are trying to find approaches to estimate the maturity of manufacturer and assessment organization in the railway system.
Harmonic current originating from electric locomotives can be magnified due to the impedance characteristics of power supply circuit and bring about various problems. That is, electromagnetic interference with communication lines, operational trouble in signaling, overheat and/or vibration in power capacitor, mis-operation in protection relay and so on. Therefore, the exact assessment of the harmonic current flow must be undertaken at design and planning stage for the electric traction systems. for these reasons, this study propose a new approach to model and to analyse traction power feeding system focused on system response to current and voltage harmonic(PART I). Measurements of harmonics are also performed for railway power supply systems under normal operation. Spectrum and distortion analyses in measurement data are variously described in PART II.
