  • The reliability of a solid-state transformer (SST) is one of the important aspects to consider when replacing a conventional low-frequency passive transformer with SST for urban railway vehicles. Lifetime evaluation of SST in the design phase is therefore essential in guaranteeing a certain SST reliability. In this study, a lifetime evaluation of power semiconductor devices in SST is performed with respect to temperature stress. For a case study, a 3 MW SST with three kinds of power modules (one IGBT module and two SiC-MOSFET modules) is used for the lifetime estimation under the operation profile of urban railway vehicles.

Air Quality and PM10 Source Analysis on the Railway Vehicles (철도차량에서의 공기질 현황 및 PM10 오염원 분석)

  • Nowadays, concerns have much more growing regarding indoor air quality (IAQ) on the public transportation including railway vehicles. Last year Korea Ministry of Environment (ME) set new guideline for public transportation. In this study several factors were analyzed which may affect comfortableness of railway passenger cabin, and we monitored IAQ parameters (PM10, CO, $CO_2$, VOCs, temperature and humidity) to investigate the present pollution in passenger cabin. In general, the railway air quality was satisfactory. The PM10 and $CO_2$ level on all passenger cabin were below the new guideline level 1 for PM10 $(200{\mu}g/m^3)\;and\;CO_2(2,000ppm)$. Clustering method was carried out to classify the air polluting pattern of the cabin. As a result, the pollutants could be classified to 4 clusters and the origin of pollution is soil, diesel exhaust gas, abrasion of rail and plume.

  • The propulsion system of next generation electric vehicle is different from the structure and control methods compared with conventional induction motor vehicles by applying an interior permanent magnetic synchronous motor. Permanent magnet motor should be controlled by each individual motor, propulsion device have 1C1M structure by a single inverter to control a single motor.

  • Following the needs for increment of public transportation system electric railroad system should be expended. There are several solutions to expend. One of these solutions is to reduce the interval between two railroad vehicles. However, it cannot be reduced too much because reduction of interval means increment of loads and induces supplying voltage decrement. In this paper, voltage variation according to railroad intervals is simulated and optimal operation in railroad system is proposed.

  • Airport railroad have required maximum design speed 120km/h and wind speed 50m/s condition as design item of airport railroad vehicles. To design and manufacture the vehicle satisfying these conditions, it must carry out the dynamic behaviors analysis such as hunting stability, ride comfort derailment ratio, unloading ratio and lateral force to meet the criterion described in Urban Railroad Act. Dynamic behaviors of vehicle have carried out using the multi-body dynamics simulation program(VAMPIRE). This paper presents the evaluation methods and criterion used to verify dynamic performance of airport railroad vehicle, and show the analysis results of vehicle dynamic simulation and the test results for vibration and ride comfort measured on running performance tests. As a results, each analysis results and test results meet the criterion described in Urban Railroad Act.

  • 차량 자동주행제어시스템에서 차량의 주행중 위치정보는 매우 중요한 요소이다. 이를 위해 GPS를 기반으로 하는 많은 연구가 수행되어 왔다. 하지만PRT(Personal rapid transit) 시스템과 같이 건물내부 또는 터널 등 위성의 가시권을 벗어난 영역에서는 사용성이 크게 제한된다. 본 논문에서는 이런 적용환경을 고려하여 국내에서 개발되고 있는 PRT차량의 주행제어 시스템에서 활용하기 위한 자석검지시스템과 자석검지기술을 제시하였다.

  • The maintenance of an urban transit vehicle accounts for 60-70% of total costs over its entire life cycle, so it is critical to reduce maintenance costs and extend the life times of urban transit EMUs (electric multiple units) through research. For these researches, the reliability and availability data management system was constructed through the case study of several industries in the domestic and international in the field of reliability centered maintenance system. And we created a system to manage reliability and availability data for use in urban-EMU maintenance. In this work, we identified the major functions needed to successfully develop the system. Here we report the successful development of a reliability and availability data management system for maintenance of urban transit vehicles.

  • There are eight kinds of railroad vehicles such as KTX, PP(Push-Pull), NEL(New Electric Locomotive), EL(Electric Locomotive), DL(Diesel Locomotive), CDC(Commuter's Diesel Car), VVVF(Variable Voltage Variable Frequency) and Resistance Control Car that Korail corporation presently runs, and a variety of vehicles just like EMU(Electric Multiple Unit) and DMU(Diesel Multiple Unit) currently developed and accepted are running in the near future. However, There is still no design standard of the control stand of cockpit and the same compatibility of forms and control unit arrangements for locomotive engineers because no one has tried to approach in an ergonomic way. It can cause Locomotive engineers to make errors using the machinery. when the new vehicles are adopted, The efficiency of operation will quite fall down due to the separate training of the engineers. Therefore, We'd like to improve the accuracy of manipulating the machinery used by the engineers at all times according to the design standard of ergonomic technology and safety engineering and increase the operational efficiency and the safety of railroad vehicles in order to handle the problems as quickly as we can in an emergent situation.

  • Personal rapid transit (PRT) is getting attention as a new form of transportation. It is energy efficient and provides the high level of passenger service. In this study, the dynamic PRT dispatching and routing problem is dealt with. Passengers request transportation service on a complex network, and an operating system monitors passenger arrivals and coordinates vehicles in real time. A new online dispatching and routing algorithm is proposed, which minimizes the total travel distance of vehicles and the waiting time of passengers. The algorithm dispatches vehicles by considering multiple vehicles' state and multiple passengers at the same time. In particular, finding the shortest-time path is attempted by taking into account the future congestion on lanes. Discrete-event simulation is employed to validate the performance of the proposed algorithm. The results show the algorithm in this study outperforms others.

  • As the air pollution caused by diesel vehicles goes worse, so non-road vehicles exhaust gas standards are more strict in an foreign countries. There is growing evidence that diesel vehicles could play the important role in determining health effects. Most of the particle number emitted by diesel engines is in the nanopaticle range, D$\_$p/ < 50nm, while most of the mass is in the accumulation mode, 50nm < D$\_$p/ < 1000nm range. The aim of this work was to investigate pollutants in the exhaust of railroad diesel rolling stock under load tests.
