This study presents an analysis of the human body channel as an electric signal path using body impulse response (BIR). The human body communications (HBC) has recently emerged as an effective signal transmission method to create wireless body area networks (WBAN). We provide body channel characteristics based on measured BIR in a proper experimental environment for the HBC using capacitive coupling with a customized channel sounding device, which can be applied as a guideline for the HBC system design. The frequency response of the BIR, extracted by a customized signal processing for the measure signals, shows the channel path loss (CPS) between 0 MHz and 100 MHz with an average CPS of approximately 46.8 dB. In addition, the relative noise power distributions can provide estimations on the signal to noise ratio at the HBC receiver in terms of capacitor and resistor values in the measured frequency band and the frequency band lower than 3 MHz considering the baseband signal detection.

This study was conducted to determine the effect of the noise level on the boarding environment in a stern trawl ship, KAYA(GT: 1,737 tons, Pukyong National University). We measured the noise level at a working, an accommodation and a teaching area, and an engine space on January 9, 2010 while the KAYA was sailing on a liner sea route. At the working area, the ranges of the noise rating number(NRN) and the NRN determination frequency(FNRN) were from 44 to 73 and from 1000 to 2000Hz, respectively. The results were generally satisfied the criteria of the International Maritime Organization(IMO). The noise level at the area, except the radio room(w2), was exceeded the criteria(50dB(A)) for the efficient studying and working. The noise level at the engine control room and the machine workshop was respectively exceeded 1.2dB and 9.5dB than the criteria caused the conversation disturbance (70dB(A)). At the accommodation, NRN and FNRN were from 49 to 54 and from 1000 to 4000Hz, respectively. The noise level was below the criteria of IMO, but above 40dB(A) caused the sleep disturbance. At the teaching area, NRN and FNRN were from 44 to 63 and from 500 to 2000Hz, respectively. The noise level was exceeded than the criteria(50dB(A)) for the efficient studying. At the engine space, NRN and FNRN were from 95 to 100 and from 2000 to 4000Hz, respectively. The noise level was above the criteria of IMO(90dB(A)) for the residence, while it was not exceeded 110dB(A) for the transient.

This paper describes characteristics of the single-balanced low IF resistive FET mixer for the digital beam forming(DBF) receiver. This DBF receiver based on the direct conversion method is designed with Low IF I and Q channel. A radio frequency(RF), a local oscillator(LO) and an intermediate frequency(IF) considered in this research are 1950 MHz, 1940 MHz and 10 MHz, respectively. Super low noise HJ FET of NE3210S01 is considered in design. The measured results of the proposed mixer are observed IF output power of -22.8 dBm without spurious signal at 10 MHz, conversion loss of -12.8 dB, isolation characteristics of -20 dB below, 1 dB gain compression point(PldB) of -3.9 dBm, input third order intercept point(IIP3) of 20 dBm, output third order intercept point(OIP3) of 4 dBm and dynamic range of 30 dBm. The proposed mixer has 1.0 dB higher IIP3 than previously published single-balanced resistive and GaAs FET mixers, and has 3.0 dB higher IIP3 and 4.3 dB higher PldB than CMOS mixers. This mixer was fabricated on 0.7874 mm thick microstrip $substrate(\varepsilon_r=2.5)$ and the total size is $123.1\;mm\times107.6\;mm$.
In the paper, an information divergence called Kullback-Leiber divergence, which measures the average of the logarithmic difference between two probability density functions, is utilized to derive a novel method for spectrum sensing in cognitive radio systems. In the proposed sensing method, we test whether the observed samples are drawn from the noise distribution by using Kullback-Leiber divergence. It is shown by numerical results that under the same conditions, the proposed Kullback-Leiber divergence-based spectrum sensing always outperforms the energy detection based spectrum sensing significantly, especially in low SNR regime and in fading circumstance.

A decimation chain for multi-standard reconfigurable radios is presented for 900-MHz and 1,900-MHz dual-band cellular standards with a data interpolator based on the Lagrange method for adjusting the variable data rate to a fixed data rate appropriate for each standard. The two proposed configurations are analyzed and compared to provide insight into aliasing and the signal bandwidth by means of a newly introduced measure called interpolation error. The average interpolation error is reduced as the ratio of the sampling frequency to the signal BW is increased. The decimation chain and the multi-rate analog-to-digital converter are simulated to compute the interpolation error and the output signal-to-noise ratio. Further, a method to operate the above-mentioned chain under a compressed mode of operation is proposed in order to guarantee continuous packet connectivity for inter-radio-access technologies. The presented decimation chain can be applied to LTE, WCDMA, GSM multi-mode multi-band digital front-end which will ultimately lead to the software-defined radio.

A pulse radar signal is characterized by periodic pulses and noise components between them. In this Letter, we present a test statistic for detecting the presence of a pulse radar which exploits the inherent characteristics of a pulse radar signal by the ratio of maximum power to minimum power from the received signal and compares its sensing performance with that of the energy detector by computer simulation in a variety of situations.

This paper proposes a payment-based power control scheme using non-cooperative game with a novel pricing function in cognitive radio networks (CRNs). The proposed algorithm considers the fairness of power control among second users (SUs) where the value of per SU' signal to noise ratio (SINR) or distance between SU and SU station is used as reference for punishment price setting. Due to the effect of uncertainty fading environment, the system is unable to get the link gain coefficient to control SUs' transmission power accurately, so the quality of service (QoS) requirements of SUs may not be guaranteed, and the existence of Nash equilibrium (NE) is not ensured. Therefore, an alternative iterative scheme with sliding model is presented for the non-cooperative power control game algorithm. Simulation results show that the pricing policy using SUs' SINR as price punishment reference can improve total throughput, ensure fairness and reduce total transmission power in CRNs.

This paper describes the design for the resistive FET mixer with low If for the 4-Ch DBF(Digital Beam Forming) receiver This DBF receiver based on the direct conversion method is generally suitable for high-speed wireless mobile communications. A radio frequency(RF), a local oscillator(LO) and an intermediate frequency(If) considered in this research are 2.09 GHz, 2.08 CHz and 10 MHz, respectively. This mixer is composed of band pass filter, a low pass filter and a DC bias circuit. Super low noise HJ FET of NE3210S01 is considered in design. The RE input power, LO input power and Vcs are used -10 dBm, 6 dBm and -0.4 V, respectively. In the 4-Ch resistive FET mixer, the measured If and harmonic components of 10 MHe, 20 MHz and 2.087 CHz are about -19.2 dBm, -66 dBm and -48 dBm, respectively The If output power observed at each channel of 10 MHz is about -19.2 dBm and it is higher 28.8 dBm than the maximum harmonic component of 2.087 CHz. Each If output spectrum of the 4-Ch is observed almost same value and it shows a good agreement with the prediction.

In this paper, we analysis wideband spectrum sensing with distance based weight combining for Cognitive Radio (CR) systems. CR systems is implemented the spectrum of the Primary User(PU) by using a energy detection method. Threshold is determined in accordance with the constant false alarm rate (CFAR) algorithm for energy detection. The signal of PU is BPSK signal and the wireless channel between a PU and CR systems is modeled as Gaussian channel. From the simulation results, the wideband sensing with distance based and Distance based weight Combing (DWC) methods shows higher spectrum sensing performance than single CR user spectrum sensing.
Spectrum sensing is an elementary function in cognitive radio designed to monitor the existence of a primary user (PU). To achieve a high rate of detection, most techniques rely on knowledge of prior spectrum patterns, with a trade-off between high computational complexity and long sensing time. On the other hand, blind techniques ignore pattern matching processes to reduce processing time, but their accuracy degrades greatly at low signal-to-noise ratios. To achieve both a high rate of detection and short sensing time, we propose fast spectrum sensing with coordinate system (FSC) - a novel technique that decomposes a spectrum with high complexity into a new coordinate system of salient features and that uses these features in its PU detection process. Not only is the space of a buffer that is used to store information about a PU reduced, but also the sensing process is fast. The performance of FSC is evaluated according to its accuracy and sensing time against six other well-known conventional techniques through a wireless microphone signal based on the IEEE 802.22 standard. FSC gives the best performance overall.
