In many previous studies, monte carlo simulation is used to produce lead-free shielding sheet, and the possibility of radiation shielding capability and weight reduction is presented. But it is difficult to simulation for binder and micro-pores because of In fact it does not provide sufficient information necessary for the commercialization process. Therefore, in this paper, the results of radiation shielding capability corresponding to filling factor was presented by using the screen printing method to provide information on gel-paste required for the commercialization process. In this study, the geometric setup for evaluate of radiation shielding ability was designed to comply with IEC 61331-1:2014 and KS A 4025. In addition, radiation irradiation conditions were 100 kVp filtered with 2.0 mmAl total filtration was applied according to KS A 4021 standard. In this study, Pb $1270{\mu}m$, $BaSO_4$$3035{\mu}m$, $Bi_2O_3$$1849{\mu}m$ and $WO_3$$2631{\mu}m$ were analyzed based on ten value layer. Additionally, the filling factor was analyzed as $BaSO_4$ 38.6%, $Bi_2O_3$ 27.1%, $WO_3$ 30.15%. However, in the case of applying low-temperature high-pressure molding in the future, it is expected that the radiation shielding capability can be sufficiently improved by reducing the porosity while increasing the filling factor.
While the shielding substances of radiation shields in medical institutions are beginning to be replaced by environmentally friendly materials, radiation protection according to the shielding properties of environmentally friendly substances is becoming an important factor rather than the existing lead shielding properties. Tungsten and barium sulfate are representative shielding materials similar to lead, and are made in sheets or fiber form with eco-friendly materials. Ytterbium is an impermeable material used as a fluorine compound in the dental radiation field. This study aims to evaluate the shielding performance in the x-ray shielding area by comparing the shielding properties of ytterbium by energy band and that of existing eco-friendly materials. When three types of shielding sheets were fabricated and tested under the same process conditions, the shielding performance of the medical radiation area was about 5 % difference from tungsten. Furthermore, shielding performance was superior to barium sulfate. In the cross-sectional structure of the shielding sheet, there was a disadvantage that the arrangement of particles was not uniform. Ytterbium oxide showed sufficient potential as a medical radiation shielding material, and it is thought that it can improve the shielding performance by controlling the particle arrangement structure and particle size.
Traditionally, lead has been primarily used to shield the radiation in the hospital, because of its soft texture, durability and cost effectiveness. However, lead can be dangerous because of its toxicity when exposed to the human body, and it is classified as a heavy metal like cadmium, mercury, and arsenic etc. In order to compensate its noxious properties on the human body, researchers are trying to develop a radiation shield which has similar shielding efficiency and can also be manufactured in any form. In this study, sulfuric acid barium was mixed with fiber, rubber, and silicon all of which are harmless to the human body, tested, and evaluated for its ability of medical radiation shield. The result of this study showed that the sheet containing silicon and barium has the strongest shielding abilities.
Radiation shielding clothing for medical institutions is used based on lead equivalent of 0.25 mmPb. However, this study intends to study the shielding suit that can guarantee the user's activity while considering the sensitivity of each part of the body. By manufacturing based on eco-friendly shielding material, it was attempted to solve the weight problem and environmental problem of existing lead aprons, and to present the same shielding performance as lead equivalent in thickness. The fabric of the produced shielding sheet was manufactured through a calendar process that adjusts the thickness of the shielding sheet from lead equivalent 0.12 mmPb to 0.32 mmPb. In addition, the usability evaluation of the manufactured shielding clothes was conducted for the subjects who were workers in medical institutions. As a result, the activity became easier and the weight was reduced by 0.26 kg. In the future, it is thought that it is necessary to improve the shielding suit design considering the activity.

This paper presents the performance measurement results of a hybrid sheet with both shielding and heat dissipation functions developed by laminating copper mesh sheets and natural graphite sheets, which are used widely as electromagnetic shielding and heat-dissipating materials in electronic devices, without a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA). The results were compared by measuring the vertical and horizontal thermal conductivity with two other products to confirm the heat dissipation performance. A radiation emission test confirmed the electromagnetic shielding performance using a 3m electromagnetic anechoic chamber according to the CISPR 11 standard. In the case of vertical thermal conductivity, the proposed hybrid sheet was approximately 8.63 times higher than that of an aluminum sheet with heat dissipation coating and 18.7 times higher than that of a copper sheet laminated with artificial graphite with PSA. The proposed hybrid sheet was approximately 0.64 times that of the sheet, and approximately 1.76 times that of the heat-dissipated aluminum sheet in case of horizontal thermal conductivity. Measurements after applying each sheet in the same heat source revealed the proposed hybrid sheet to have the best heat dissipation performance. The radiation emission test showed that significantly radiation noise had been removed.
The purpose of this study is to estimating the possibility of manufacturing radiation shielding sheet by searching for environmentally friendly materials suitable for medical environment of medical radiation shielding. There are many tungsten products which are currently used as shielding materials in place of lead, but there are small problems in the mass production of lightweight shielding sheets due to economical efficiency. To solve these problems, a lightweight, environmentally friendly material with economical efficiency is required. In this study, Barium sulphate and Iodine were proposed. Both materials are already used as contrast medias in radiography, and it is predicted that the shielding effect will be sufficient in a certain region as a shielding material because of the characteristic of absorbing radiation. Therefore, in this study, we used a Monte Carlo simulation to simulate radiation shielding materials. When it is a contrast agent such as Barium sulfate and Iodine, the radiation absorption effect in the high energy region appears greatly, and the effectiveness of the two shielding substance in the energy region of the star with thickness of 120 kVp is also evaluated in the medical radiation imaging region. Simulated estimation results it was possible to estimate the effectiveness of shielding for all two substances. Iodine has higher shielding effect than barium sulfate, 0.05 mm thick appears great effect. Therefore, the Monte Carlo simulation confirms that iodine, which is a radiological contrast agent, is also usable as barium sulfate in the production of radiation shielding sheets.
In the medical field, X-rays are essential in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, and the use of X-rays continues to increase with the development of imaging technology, but X-rays have the disadvantage of radiation exposure. Although lead protection tools are used in clinical practice to protect against radiation exposure, lead is classified as a heavy metal and can cause harmful reactions such as lead poisoning. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the usefulness of the shield fabricated using materials of FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D printer. In order to confirm the filament's line attenuation factor, phantoms were fabricated using PLA, XT-CF20, Wood, Glow and Brass, and CT scan was performed. And the shielding sheet of 100 × 100 × 2 mm size was modeled, the dose and shielding rate was measured by using a diagnostic X-ray generator and irradiation dose meter, and the shielding rate with lead protection tools. As a result of the experiment, the CT number of the brass was measured to be the highest, and the shielding sheet was manufactured by using the brass. As a result of confirming with the diagnostic X-ray generator, the shielding rate was increased in the shielding sheet having a thickness of 6 mm upon X-ray irradiation under the condition of 100 kV and 40 mAs. It measured by 90% or more, and confirmed that the shielding rate is higher than apron 0.25 mmPb. As a result of this study, it was confirmed that the shield fabricated by 3D printing technology showed high shielding rate in the diagnostic X-ray region. there was.

In this study, we developed and characterized the shielding properties of dose reduction fiber (DRF, Buffalo Co.) sheet during brain and chest CT examinations. The DRF sheet was composed of $1{\sim}500{\mu}m$ oxide Bismuth ($Bi_2O_3$) and 5 ~ 50 nm nano-barium sulfate ($BaSO_4$). Phantom and clinical studies were performed for characterization of the DRF shielding properties. In clinical study, we measured doses of eye, chest, abdomen and reproductive system of 60 patients in 3 hospitals during brain and chest CT examinations. We could determined the shielding effect of the DRF by comparing the doses when we used the DRF sheet or not. When we used the sheet during CT examination, the scattered dose were reduced about 20~50%. So, we suggest that the fiber should be used in radiological examinations for reducing patients doses.
Since radiation therapy is irradiated with high-energy X-rays in a variety of at least 20 Gy to 80 Gy, a high dose is administered to the local area where the tumor is located, and various side effects of some normal tissues are expected. Currently, in clinical practice, lead, a representative material, is used as an effort to shield normal tissues, but lead is classified as a heavy metal harmful to the human body, and a large amount of skin contact can cause poisoning. Therefore, this study intends to manufacture a measurement sheet that can compensate for the limitations of lead using the materials Tungsten, Brass, and Copper of the 3D printer of the FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) method and to investigate the penetration performance. Tungsten mixed filament transmission measurement sheet size was 70 × 70 mm and thickness 1, 2, 4 mm using a 3D printer, and a linear accelerator (TrueBeam STx, S/N: 1187) was measured by irradiating 100 MU at SSD 100 cm and 5 cm in water using a water phantom, an ion chamber (FC-65G), and an elcetrometer (PTW UNIDOSE), and the permeability was evaluated. As a result of increasing the measurement sheet of each material by 1 mm, in the case of Tungsten sheet at 3.8 to 3.9 cm in 6 MV, the thickness of the lead shielding body was thinner than 6.5 cm, and in case of Tungsten sheet at 4.5 to 4.6 cm in 15 MV. The sheet was thinner than the existing lead shielding body thickness of 7 cm, and equivalent performance was confirmed. Through this study, the transmittance measurement sheet produced using Tungsten alloy filaments confirmed the possibility of transmission shielding in the high energy region. It has been confirmed that the usability as a substitute is also excellent. It is thought that it can be provided as basic data for the production of shielding agents with 3D printing technology in the future.
In chest and abdomen CT scans, the radiation exposure doses by scattering lines were measured at the eyeball and thyroid. Radiation exposure was investigated by using shielding devices. The chest and abdomen CT scan protocols used in the real examination were applied to measure and compare radiation doses before and after the use of shielding devices at the eyeball and the thyroid. The radiaton doses were measured with OSLD dosimeters. Barium, tungsten sheets, goggles and neck shields were used to protect the scattered X-ray. The chest CT scans showed respectively 3.01 mSv and 6.21 mSv at the eyeball and the thyroid by the scattered X-ray. The abdomen CT scans showed 0.55 mSv and 3.22 mSv for the eyeball and the thyroid respectively. Barium and tungsten sheets had 11% to 13% protection rates at the eyeball and the thyroid for chest CT scan, and 34% to 49% reduction in radiation dose for the abdomen CT scan. Because of the significant radiation dose, which causes cataracts and thyroid cancer by the repeated and continuous radiation exposure, for the chest and the abdomen CT scans, it is required to use shielding devices to reduce radiation dose for examinations.
