  • 반응표면실험계획들을 평가하기 위한 방법으로서 전형적인 방법이 알파벳최적화이다. 그러나 이러한 알파벳최적화(D-, A-, G-, V-최적화 등)는 하나의 수치이므로 그 유용성에도 불구하고 반응표면실험 계획들이 갖는 추정반응값분산의 분포에 대한 정보에 한계를 갖는다. 이를 극복하고자 하는 대안으로서 그래픽 방법들이 있는데 우리는 그 중에 분위수그림을 애니메이션화한 동적분위수그림을 제안할 수 있고 이 동적분위수그림을 이용하여 반응표면실험계획들이 갖는 추정반응값분산의 분포를 서로 비교, 평가 할 수 있다.

  • Value-at-Risk(VaR) has been used as an important tool to measure the market risk. However, the selection of the VaR models is controversial. This paper proposes VaR forecast combinations using support vector machine quantile regression instead of selecting a single model out of historical simulation and GARCH.

A Noise-Reduced Risk Aversion Index

  • We propose a noise reduced risk aversion index for measuring risk aversion through a laboratory experiment to overcome disadvantages of the multiple pricing list format developed by Holt and Laury (2002). We use randomized multiple list choices with coarser classification and reward weighting, supplement the rank of risk aversion with extra individual characteristics of risk attitude, and construct an index of risk aversion by standardizing the risk aversion ranking with quantile normalization. Our method reduces multiple switching problems that noisy decision makers mistakenly commit in experimental approaches, so that it is free of the framing effect which severely occurred in the HL. Furthermore, the index doesn't utilize any specific utility function or probability weighting, which allows researcher to hold the independence axiom. Since our noise reduced index of risk aversion has many good traits, it is widely used and applied to reveal fundamental characteristics of risk-related behaviors in economics and finance regardless of experimental environment.

Forecasting value-at-risk by encompassing CAViaR models via information criteria

  • This paper proposes a new method of VaR forecasting using the conditional autoregressive VaR (CAViaR) models and information criteria. Instead of using a single CAViaR model, we propose to utilize several candidate CAViaR models during a forecasting period. By adopting the Akaike and Bayesian information criteria for quantile regression, we can update not only parameter estimates but also the CAViaR specifications. We also propose extended CAViaR models with a constant location parameter. An empirical study is provided to examine the performance of the proposed method. The results suggest that our method shows more stable performance than those using a single specification.

  • In fitting a regression model, we often encounter data sets which do not follow Gaussian distribution and/or do not have equal variance. In this case estimation of the conditional density of a response variable at a given design point is hardly solved by a standard least squares method. To solve this problem, we propose a simple method to estimate the distribution of the fitted vales under heteroscedasticity using the idea of quantile regression and the histogram techniques. Application of this method to a real data sets is given.

  • In this paper, we discuss the plethora of uses for the software package R, and focus specifically on its helpful applications in reliability data analyses. Examples are presented; including the R coding protocol, R code, and plots for various statistical as well as reliability analyses. We explore Kaplan-Meier estimates and maximum likelihood estimation for distributions including the Weibull. Finally, we discuss future applications of R, and usages of quantile regression in reliability.

SVQR with asymmetric quadratic loss function

  • Support vector quantile regression (SVQR) can be obtained by applying support vector machine with a check function instead of an e-insensitive loss function into the quantile regression, which still requires to solve a quadratic program (QP) problem which is time and memory expensive. In this paper we propose an SVQR whose objective function is composed of an asymmetric quadratic loss function. The proposed method overcomes the weak point of the SVQR with the check function. We use the iterative procedure to solve the objective problem. Furthermore, we introduce the generalized cross validation function to select the hyper-parameters which affect the performance of SVQR. Experimental results are then presented, which illustrate the performance of proposed SVQR.

Multivariate CTE for copula distributions

  • The CTE (conditional tail expectation) is a useful risk management measure for a diversified investment portfolio that can be generally estimated by using a transformed univariate distribution. Hong et al. (2016) proposed a multivariate CTE based on multivariate quantile vectors, and explored its characteristics for multivariate normal distributions. Since most real financial data is not distributed symmetrically, it is problematic to apply the CTE to normal distributions. In order to obtain a multivariate CTE for various kinds of joint distributions, distribution fitting methods using copula functions are proposed in this work. Among the many copula functions, the Clayton, Frank, and Gumbel functions are considered, and the multivariate CTEs are obtained by using their generator functions and parameters. These CTEs are compared with CTEs obtained using other distribution functions. The characteristics of the multivariate CTEs are discussed, as are the properties of the distribution functions and their corresponding accuracy. Finally, conclusions are derived and presented with illustrative examples.

  • The main focus of this study is to investigate the performance of a clark-scarf type multi-echelon serial supply chain operating with a base-stock policy and to optimize the inventory levels in the supply chains so as to minimize the systemwide total inventory cost, comprising holding and backorder costs as all the nodes in the supply chain. The source of supply of raw materials to the most upstream node, namely supplier, is assumed to have an infinite raw material availability. Retailer faces random customer demand, which is assumed to be stationary and normally distributed. If the demand exceeds on-hand inventory, the excess demand is backlogged. Using the echelon stock and demand quantile concepts and an efficient simulation technique, we derive near optimal inventory policy. Additionally we discuss the derived results through the extensive experiments for different supply chain settings.

Characteristics and Determinants of Household Electricity Consumption for Different Levels of Electricity Use in Korea (국내 가구의 전력소비 수준에 따른 특성 및 결정요인)

  • This study compares the characteristics and the determinants of household electricity consumption for low electricity consuming and high electricity consuming households. The data are drawn from a household energy consumption sample survey by Korea Energy Economics Institute in 2015. The results show the differences in socio-demographic, dwelling, and electricity consumption characteristics between two households. Next, the factors affecting the household's electricity consumption are investigated. Common factor affecting the electricity consumption function is only the number of electrical appliances. There are also the differences in major determinants of the household's electricity consumption functions for two households. The results of this study would be useful for understanding socio-demographic, dwelling, and electricity consumption characteristics of low electricity consuming and high electricity consuming households.
