  • An optimization process for the design of groundwater remediation is developed by simultaneously considering the well location and the pumping rate. This process uses two independent models: simulation and optimization model. Groundwater flow and contaminant transport are simulated with MODFLOW and MT3D in simulation model. In optimization model, the location and pumping rate of each well are determined and evaluated by the genetic algorithm. In a homogeneous and symmetric domain, the developed model is tested using sequential pairs for pumping rate of each well, and the model gives more improved result than the model using sequential pairs. In application cases, the suggested optimal design shows that the main location of wells is on the centerline of contaminate distribution. The resulting optimal design also shows that the well with maximum pumping rate is replaced with the further one from the contaminant source along flow direction and that the optimal pumping rate declines when more cleanup time is given. But the optimal pumping rate is not linearly proportional to the cleanup time and the minimum total pumping volume does not coincide with the optimal pumping rate.

  • The paper presents the novel approach to solve some problems occurred in application of the genetic algorithm to the determination of the optimal tire pattern sequence in order to reduce the tire air-pumping noise which is generated by the repeated compression and expansion of the air cavity between tire pattern and road surface. The genetic algorithm has been used to find the optimal tire pattern sequence having a low level of tire air-pumping noise using the image based air-pumping model. In the genetic algorithm used in the previous researches, there are some problems in the encoding structure and the selection of objective function. The paper proposed single encoding element with five integers, divergent objective function based on evolutionary process and the optimal evolutionary rate based on Shannon entropy to solve the problems. The results of the proposed genetic algorithm with evolutionary process are compared with those of the randomized algorithm without evolutionary process on the two-dimensional normal distribution. It is confirmed that the genetic algorithm is more effective to reduce the peak value of the predicted tire air-pumping noise and the consistency and cohesion of the obtained simulation results are also improved in terms of probability.

  • With the NAND Flash scaling down, it becomes more and more difficult to follow Moore's law to continue the scaling due to physical limitations. Recently, three-dimensional (3D) flash memories have introduced as an ideal solution for ultra-high-density data storage. In 3D flash memory, as the process reason, we need to use poly-Si TFTs instead of conventional transistors. So, after combining charge trap flash (CTF) structure and poly-Si TFTs, the emerging device SONOS-TFTs has also suffered from some reliability problem such as hot carrier degradation, charge-trapping-induced parasitic capacitance and resistance which both create interface traps. Charge pumping method is a useful tool to investigate the degradation phenomenon related to interface trap creation. However, the curves for charge pumping current in SONOS TFTs were far from ideal, which previously due to the fabrication process or some unknown traps. It needs an optimization and the important geometrical effect should be eliminated. In spite of its importance, it is still not deeply studied. In our work, base-level sweep model was applied in SONOS TFTs, and the nonideal charge pumping current was optimized by adjusting the gate pulse transition time. As a result, after the optimizing, an improved charge pumping current curve is obtained.

  • This paper describes a Unified Voltage Generator that merges the pumping capacitors of boosted voltage generator (VPP) and substrate voltage generator (VBB) for DRAM. This unified voltage generator simultaneously supplies VPP and VBB voltages by using one pumping capacitor and one oscillator. The proposed generator is realized by 0.14${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$DRAM process. The generator reduces the power consumption to 30%, the area of total generator to 40% and the area of pumping capacitor to 29.6%, and improves the pumping efficiency to 13.2% at 2.0V supply voltage. In addition, the generator adopts the charge recycling technique for precharging the pumping capacitor during the period of precharge, thatcan reduces the precharge current to 75%.

  • It is a common sense that water is an old offender crashing our dream of achieving a good vacuum in an early time. Various techniques for accelerating the removal of water have been developed and utilized. However, we generally are not skilled in treating the water pumping in a physically proper manner. We are rather used to handle the situation of the water pumping just like considering a conventional air pumping. Under such an erroneous approach, we cannot help making an overestimation on the pumping capability of our vacuum system, and it leads to a big mismatch between the real operation timing and the planned process schedule. In this article, some main points concerning with the subject that a vacuum pumping is really a water pumping will be discussed.

  • In the pumping process, concrete moves along the pipe and experiences both pressure and shear. This changes the workability and flow characteristics of the concrete. However, the effect of pressure and shear on the change in properties of concrete during the pumping process has not yet been accurately identified. This study analyzed the effects of pressure and shear on the properties of concrete during pumping. For quantitative tests, lab-scale test equipment capable of simulating the pressure and shear applied to concrete during pumping was used. For one coarse aggregate type, two paste types, three mortar types, and five concrete types, the effects of pressure, shear, and shear under pressure conditions were examined by varying the maximum pressure (0 to 200 bar) and the rotational speed of the vane for shear (0 to 180 rpm). Under the maximum pressure condition of 200 bar, the water absorption of coarse aggregate increased by 0.62% and that of fine aggregate also increased. When the concrete was under pressure, significant changes (a reduction in a slump and an increase in viscosity and yield stress) compared with the effect of the elapsed time occurred owing to an increase in the water absorption of the aggregates. When both pressure and shear were applied to concrete, both the slump and viscosity decreased. As the rotational speed of the vane increased, changes in properties became significant. Shearing in the absence of pressure maintained the properties of concrete. However, shearing under pressure conditions caused a reduction in slump and viscosity.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the methodology for applying digital twin technology to pumping station, identify the factors to be determined at each stage, and present its applicability. When analyzing the requirements for developing a digital twin for pumping station, they were categorized into service requirements, IoT device requirements, and gateway requirements, with a total of 39 requirements established. In system design, it was structured according to the principles of modularity, abstraction, stepwise decomposition, and information hiding, allowing the implementation of planned items for diagnosis and operational management. There are difficulties in setting communication-related protocols and applying them in the field due to the complexity of overseeing the entire system with data. Therefore, it is necessary to clarify the purpose of the system, and there are challenges in identifying the characteristics of individual facilities, such as pumps in pumping station, and fully incorporating them into the system process. Thus, the framework of the initial design is crucial for implementing a digital twin.

  • As the wire bonding process has been converted into BUMP process due to the high density integration of semiconductor chip, the telecommunication line connecting to semiconductor chip and external devices have become finer. As a result, a more precise work is necessary. However, it is difficult to control quantity given the nature of high viscosity of PSPI and the yield rate continues to decline due to the inflow of bubble. Therefore, this paper developed the D&P(degassing and pumping) system to remove and supply gas that is generated from coating the high viscosity photosensitive polyimide(PSPI) in the semiconductor BUMP process.

  • In this study, develop the thermal pump using water evaporation and condensation. Vapor from heating room moves up to pumping room and press the water of pumping room. Consequently water is pumped out to water tank. Then hot vapor direct contact with cold water in condensing room after pumping process. At this time, pressure of condensing room is down to-5kPa and suck in water of tank. This pump executes self ping and good durability because of no mechanical moving parts. Thermal pump is pumped cyclic so that, this pump is not used single. Therefore thermal pump of hot water boiler used to multi-stage for stable pumping rate. As the result of performance test, the developed thermal pump proves pumping action of water evaporation/condensation. And total volume flow rate is 500liter during one hour. If three thermal pump is installed parallel, this pump can use to the hot water boiler in the 300,000kcal/h class.

  • When a pipe is deployed on a sloping bed, pumping power required for a discharge can be estimated immediately without any iteration process with an explicit form of a friction factor equation. Pumping power being given, however, traditional method requires an iteration process for the solution of discharge and pipe diameter even for the uniformly-rough pipe. You (1955b) has suggested explicit equations for the estimation of discharge and pipe diameter particularly for the cases of pipe on a slopintg bed without pumping and pipe on a horizontal bed with a pumping power. Based on his approach and previous results, the present researchers have developed explicit equations of discharge and pipe diameter for the general case of pipe on a sloping bed with a pumping power. The equations of boundary criteria are also presented in explicit way which render proper choice of various equations suitable for the flow condition between five characteristics. Verification studies are also carried out by applying the explicit equations to a practical example.
