High Pulse SCR Inverter for Utility Interactive Renewable Power Generation System (계통연계형 대체에너지 발전시스템을 위한 고펄스 SCR 인버터)

  • In this paper, a new line-commutated SCR inverter for renewable power generation system is proposed. The proposed inverter system includes a 6-pulse SCR inverter and an auxiliary circuit. By the proper operation of the auxiliary circuit, the pulse number of the inverter system is increased and the output harmonic currents are reduced. Analysis, control and simulation for 24 pulse operation of the proposed scheme is presented and the experimental results will be provided in the final paper.

  • This paper proposes a new deterioration diagnostic technique for power facilities by analyzing the pulse-height analysis of leakage current. Until now, various deterioration diagnostic techniques to prevent power system failures by deterioration of power facilities are suggested, and most of which measures leakage current amplitude only as a estimation parameter. In this experiment, it is known that the pulse heights of the leakage current are increased according to deterioration progress as well as there comes remarkable changes in pulse height distribution thereto. Therefore, the use of pulse height distribution in deterioration diagnostic technique makes more accurate diagnosis than the conventional method by using only leakage current value. From the application test, it is confirmed that the proposed technique has sufficient performance to diagnose deterioration of power facilities.

  • In this study, we developed friendly-environment device through various applications of pulse power system and studied research about pulse energy transfer characteristics. We have studied the mutual relation between characteristics of the load impedance and consumed power of the pulse power system. The consumed power means electrical power from the wall plug. For changing the load impedance, we could change elecrode length. As results, we can get electrical characteristics between pulse generator and load. When the pulse energy was triggered the microbes, caused waste water, they were almost removed in the waste water.

  • This paper presents a forward type high voltage pulse power supply for high voltage small current, which can be designed as a simple circuit configuration and managed easily using Power-MOSFET in the view of commercialization. According to the switching frequency, coupling factor(k) and duty ratio(D), the Principle of basic operation and the characteristics of the proposed pulse power supply are estimated. Simulation results have demonstrated the feasibility of the proposed pulse power supply. Also experimental results are presented to verify theoretical discussion with a lamp type ozonizer as a load. For studying the application at the part of environment of water, When ozonizer gas reacts with a colon bacillus, the sterilization characteristics of a colon bacillus according to the ozone concentration and response time have been investigated. This proposed pulse power supply will be able to be practically used as a pulse power supply in various environment improvement facilities like sterilization of colon bacillus, deodorization, and Nox gas elimination.

  • Real and reactive power flows on a transmission line interact inherently. This situation degrades power flow controller performance when independent real and reactive power flow regulation is required. In this study, a quasi multi-pulse interline power flow controller (IPFC), consisting of eight six-pulse voltage source converters (VSC) switched at the fundamental frequency is proposed to control real and reactive power flows dynamically on a transmission line in response to a sequence of set-point changes formed by unit-step reference values. It is shown that the proposed hybrid fuzzy-PI commanded IPFC shows better decoupling performance than the parameter optimized PI controllers with analytically calculated feed-forward gains for decoupling. Comparative simulation studies are carried out on a 4-machine 4-bus test power system through a number of case studies. While only the fuzzy inference of the proposed control scheme has been modeled in MATLAB, the power system, converter power circuit, control and calculation blocks have been simulated in PSCAD/EMTDC by interfacing these two packages on-line.

  • The pulse power system has been widely used to many applications. such as E/P(Electrostatic Precipitator), DeNOx/DeSOx power system, ozon generator. etc. A pulse energy efficiency for load depend on the rising time, peak value, pulse duration, impedance matching. etc. The pulse generator generally required for short pulse duration, high peak value was forced to consider its size and economy. In this study, developing a compact pulse generator that applied for Cascading method to be made of two pulse transformer, we compared cascading voltage with no cascading one by applying the pulse energy to load.

Analysis of an AC/DC Resonant Pulse Power Converter for Energy Harvesting Using a Micro Piezoelectric Device

  • In order to harvest power in an efficient manner from a micro piezoelectric (PZT) device for charging the battery of a remote system, a new AC/DC resonant pulse power converter is proposed. The proposed power converter has two stages in the power conversion process. The first stage includes N-type MOSFET full bridge rectifier. The second stage includes a boost converter having an N-type MOSFET and a P-type MOSFET. MOSFETs work in the $1^{st}$ or $3^{rd}$ quadrant region. A small inductor for the boost converter is assigned in order to make the size of the power converter as small as possible, which makes the on-interval of the MOSFET switch of the boost converter ultimately short. Due to this short on-interval, the parasitic junction capacitances of MOSFETs affect the performance of the power converter system. In this paper, the performance of the new converter is analytically and experimentally evaluated with consideration of the parasitic capacitance of switching devices.

  • This paper presents a novel circuit topology of a high efficiency single-phase power conditioner. This power conditioner is composed of time-sharing sinewave absolute pulse width modulated boost chopper with a bypass diode in the first power processing stage and time-sharing sinewave pulse width modulated full-bridge inverter in the second power processing stage operated by time-sharing dual mode pulse pattern control scheme. The unique operating principle of the two power processing stage with time-sharing dual mode sinewave modulation scheme is described with a design example. This paper proposes also a sinewave tracking voltage controlled soft switching PWM boost chopper with a passive auxiliary edge-resonant snubber. The new conceptual operating principle of this novel power conditioner related to new energy utilization system is presented and discussed through the experimental results.

  • High voltage pulse power supply using Marx generator and solid-state switches is proposed in this study. The Marx generator is composed of 12 stages and each stage is made of IGBT stack, two diode stacks, and capacitor. To charge the capacitors of each stage in parallel, inductive charging method is used and this method results in high efficiency and high repetition rates. It can generate the pulse voltage with the following parameters: Voltage: up to 120kv Rising time: sub ${\mu}S$ Pulse width: up to $10{\mu}S$, Pulse repetition rate: 1000pps The proposed pulsed power generator uses IGBT stack with a simple driver and has modular design. So this system structure gives compactness and easiness to implement total system. Some experimental results are included to verify the system performances in this paper.

  • A pulse frequency control method for single-switch three-phase buck rectifiers is comprehensively studied in this paper. The proposed pulse frequency control method leads the three-phase buck rectifier to a high performance system that can draw the nearly sinusoidal input-line currents. The simulated and experimental results demonstrate that the system provides low total harmonic distortion of the input-line currents, high-power factor, and good output voltage regulation against load change.
