  • Flocculation phenomena of the stock mixed with cellulosic fibers, fillers and polymers were investigated by a new turbidity measurement system consisted of a probe-type turbidimeter, data acquisition system and computer. The probe-type turbidimeter allowed to measure the real time flocculation of the stock induced by single polymer and microparticle systems. Flocculation phenomena were evaluated by average and final relative turbidity indices. Turbidity and flocculation showed inverse relationship, i.e. the turbidity decreased with the formation of flocs. Relative turbidity of the stock treated with microparticle system was lower than that of the stock containing single polymer system, which indicated that the microparticle system showed greater floc forming efficiency than single polymer system.

  • It has been problematic to repulp the dry broke treated with permanent wet strength agents like PAE, UF and MF. Solution type GPAM has the benefit of easy repulping but it has problems of cocross-linking and tends to gel. Therefore, the product concentration must be lower than 10% to reduce the gel generation problem. We developed emulsion type GPAM by an inverse emulsion technology to resolve both the repulping problem with permanent wet strength agents and the stability problem of GPAM solution products.

  • The recovery of valuable metals from waste lithium-based secondary batteries is very important in terms of efficiently utilizing earth's limited number of resources. Currently, the cathode material of a LiFePO4 battery, a type of battery which is widely used in automobiles, contains approximately 5% lithium. After use, the lithium in these batteries can be used again as a raw material for new batteries through lithium recycling. In this study, low-concentration sulfuric acid, a commonly used type of inorganic acid, was used to selectively leach the lithium contained in a waste LiFePO4 cathode material powder. In addition, in order to compare and analyze the leaching efficiency and separation efficiency of each component, the optimalleaching conditions were derived by applying a two-step leaching process with pulp density being used as a variable during leaching. When leaching with pulp density as a variable, it was confirmed that at a pulp density of 200 g/L, the separation efficiency was approximately 200 times higher than at other pulp densities because the iron and phosphorus components were hardly leached at this pulp density. Accordingly, the pulp density of 200 g/L was used tooptimize the leaching conditions for the selective leaching and recovery of lithium.

  • Dens invaginatus is a developmental anomaly resulting in a deepening or invagination of the enamel organ into the dental papilla prior to calcification of the dental tissues. The most widely used classification of dens invaginatus is the system described by Oehler categorizes invaginations into three classes as determined by how far they extend radiographically from the crown into the root. Oehler's classification type III is that the invagination extends through the root and communicates with the periodontal ligament. There is usually no communication with the pulp. In Type III lesions, any infection within the invagination can lead to an inflammatory response within the periodontal tissues giving rise to a 'peri-invagination periodontitis'. In the cases presented here, we treated two patients who were refered for 'peri-invagination periodontitis' on maxillary lateral incisor with Oehler's type III invagination by different approaches each, and they have shown satisfactory outcomes. Although there are several approaches to the management of dens invaginatus, the most important objective is to preserve the health of the pulp, which can be achieved by early diagnosis and the prophylactic treatment regardless of severity. When disease has developed, decision has to be made whether to treat the invagination and the pulp separately.

  • The aim of this reviews is to introduce the information concerning design of the UV-curable jet ink composition in order to provide a good adhesive property on non-porous surface. In order to clarify the viscosity dependence of flying speed for the UV curable jet ink, rheological analysis and observation of the flying state of the ink were carried out. The relationship between ink formulas and adhesive property on non-porous surface was investigated. It was examined the adhesive property of radical polymerization type UV curable jet ink included hydrogen abstraction type photo-initiator, it was expected that the strong adhesive strength can be obtained between the ink and non-porous surface in this study. UV curable jet ink with a slight amount of water was prepared. Optimum ratio of the cationic polymerization type UV curable jet ink shows an adequate adhesive strength towards two kinds of non-porous surface such as glass, poly(vinyl chloride) when tests were conducted on the ink jet-printing test machine.

  • This paper was made to evaluate the effect of the type of latex for coating on the printability by investigating the structure of pore such as the pore fraction, the number of pores, pore size and distribution of coated paper. The coated structure is mainly depend on the results of interaction between pigment and binder. It means that the structure of pore formed is chiefly affected by the type of latex. This physical properties of pore have a close relation with ink set-off associated with the drying rate, the speed of penetration of ink into base paper and printing gloss. Therefore it was necessary to find out the relationship between pore structure and the performance of printability by modifying the type of latex to vary the pore structure of coated paper. Acrylic latex was superior to S/B latex in the sedimentation volume, compressibility, smoothness, pore fraction and its number, the weight of transferred ink onto the coated paper and ink repellance. In contrast, water retention and ink setting were not good. in the comparison of anionic and amphoteric latex, amphoteric latex showed better performance in the thickness, smoothness, pore fraction and its number, pore size, the weight of ink transmitted and K&N ink receptivity, etc.

  • To overcome troubles in strength and process of linerboard caused by raw materials, a neutral sizing which is usual in fine paper making can be considered. A new sizing agent is necessary to show good performance in a system with high conductivity and COD. In this study, fast cure type AKD was examined as a new sizing agent and compared with conventional AKD. The effects of fixing agent addition and drying condition were also investigated. Fast cure type AKD which has a higher cationicity showed better sizing degree than conventional AKD in spite of low addition level and no curing treatment. And when fixing agent of sufficient amount was added, sizing degree was improved for both AKDs. High cationicity is a crucial factor for neutral sizing of linerboard for obtaining fast and stable sizing degree. Drying with temperature over $100^{\circ}$ was desirable for developing sizing degree.

  • Neutral sizing is required for linerboard to solve the troubles in strength and process caused by recycled raw materials. AKD sizing efficiency can be influenced by process condition like white water quality, fines retention and so on. Therefore, this study was aimed to evaluate sizing performance of general and fast cure type AKDs using process water obtained from linerboard mill. To evaluate effect of process water quality on AKD sizing, white water was diluted with tap water at the different dilution ratios and UKP slurry was sized using the prepared water. Also, effects of inorganic and organic ion material on sizing were examined. When white water was used for stock forming, UKP sheet showed very low sizing degree. Sizing degree of sheet was increased with increase of dilution ratio because water quality was improved. Especially anionic organic material had a greater influence on AKD sizing than inorganic material. When white water quality was deteriorated, fast cure type AKD showed superior sizing performance to general type AKD.

  • In this study, in order to investigate the influence of insolubilizer on the double coating structure, we carried out basic research related to the double coating formulation with four insolubilizers having various chemical types such as amino aldehyde, glyoxal and two metallic salts. It was found that although the four insolubilizers showed similar results on optical and surface properties of the coated papers, they gave different results in the printabilities of the coated papers since coating structure was significantly influenced by different reacting mechanism of the insolubilizers. Three of the insolubilizers (glyoxal, two metallic salts) showed better results than amino aldehyde type one when they were applied to top coating formulation. Metallic salts type insolubilizers showed good results in the print gloss when it was applied to top coating formulation. It was believed that amino aldehyde type insolubilizer applied top coating formulation showed good both of dry-pick and wet-pick strength.

  • Molar-incisor malformation (MIM) is a new type of root anomaly reported recently. The characteristics of MIM are dysplastic root formations, constriction of pulp chambers and presence of calcified matrices at the level of cementoenamel junction in permanent first molars and primary second molars. In some cases, permanent maxillary incisors are also affected. The permanent first molars of the patient in this case report were affected with MIM. Generalized pulp stones were observed in overall primary dentition. Micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) imaging and scanning electron microscope-energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer analysis were performed on the extracted mandibular first molar and maxillary primary second molar of the patient. Micro-CT images revealed the discontinuity of enamel directly connected to an accessory canal of the root.
