The purpose of this study was to search for physical treatments to reduce allergenicity of pork. Physical treatments such as heating, autoclave, microwave, sonication, and irradiation have been used for food processing or reduction of allergenicity. The porcine serum albumin (PSA), known as a major allergen in pork, was extracted after physical treatments. The antigenicity of pork extracts by heating (80 and $100^{\circ}C$ for 20 min), autoclave ($121^{\circ}C$ for 5, 10, and 30 min), and microwave (for 5 and 10 min) was significantly decreased. Especially, the binding ability of p-IgG to pork extracts by autoclave for 30 min showed the greatest decrease (about 3%) in physical treatments. However, the antigenicity of pork was unaffected by sonication and irradiation treatment. These results indicated that the autoclave treatment was the most effective method to reduce the antigenicity of pork.

The spent fuel pool (SFP) of a nuclear power plant functions to store the spent fuel. The spent fuel pool is designed to properly remove the decay heat generated from the spent fuel. If the cooling function is lost and proper operator action is not taken, the spent fuel in the storage pool can be damaged. Probabilistic safety assessment (PSA) is a safety evaluation method that can evaluate the risk of a large and complex system. So far, the probabilistic safety assessment of nuclear power plants has been mainly performed on the reactor. This study defined the requirements and the functional architecture for the probabilistic safety assessment of the spent fuel pool (SFP-PSA) by applying the systems engineering process. And, a systematic and efficient methodology was defined according to the architecture.

The stability and performance (peel strength) of the acrylic copolymer and various modified rosin systems were investigated. The peel strength was measured over a wide range of scaling rates, and the influence of the viscoelasticity of the PSA(pressure sensitive adhesive) was considered. In the case of miscible systems, the peak of peel strength (PSA performance) over wide peel rates was changed and modified systematically with increasing glass transition temperature of the blends. The peak of the peel strength for blended systems shifts toward the lower rate side as glass transition temperature ($T_g$) of the blend increased. The influence of esterification of the rosin on performance and stability against deterioration was greatly modified by blending with rosin of glycerol ester and rosin pentaerythritol ester. The failure mode of the blend varies with the combination with acrylic copolymer and modified rosin, and cohesive failure was found at a lower peel rate while interfacial failure was found at a high peel rate. A few systems where a single Tg could be measured, despite the fact that two phases were observed microscopically, were detected.
In this paper we find a geometric condition for the weaker principle of spatial averaging (PSA) for a class of polyhedral domains. Let \ulcorner be a polyhedron in R\ulcorner, n$\leq$3. If all dihedral angles of \ulcorner are submultiples of $\pi$, then there exists a parallelopiped \ulcorner generated by n linearily independent vectors {\ulcorner}\ulcorner in R\ulcorner containing \ulcorner so that solutions of $\Delta$u+λu=0 in \ulcorner with either the boundary condition u=0 or ∂u/∂n=0 are expressed by linear combinations of those of $\Delta$u+λn=0 in \ulcorner with periodic boundary condition. Moreover, if {\ulcorner}\ulcorner satisfies rational condition, we guarantee the weaker PSA for the domain \ulcorner.

Mechatronic subsystems are more and more developed in automotive industries. To enhance the local controls performances, a cooperative control between ABS and Suspension systems is proposed. The respective controls are first designed separately with their dedicated models. Then a hybrid hierarchical architecture is developed. The advantage of this architecture is discussed through vehicle performance with simulation results.

This paper describes the fabrication process and electrical characteristics of PSA (Polysilicon Self-Align) bipolar transistors with a thin base width of 1100.angs.. To realize this shallow junction depth, one-step rapid thermal annealing(RTA) technology has been applied instead of conventional furnace annealing process. It has been shown that the series resistances and parasitic capacitances are significantly reduced in the device with emitter area of 1${\times}4{\mu}m^{2}$. The switching speed of 2.4ns/gate was obtained by measuring the minimum propagation delay time in the I$^{2}$L ring oscillator with 31 stages.
Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) developed a risk monitor called Risk Monster which supports for plant operators and maintenance schedulers to monitor plant risk and to avoid high peak risk by rearranging maintenance work schedule. Risk Monster can update the plant risk continuously according to the change of system/component configuration since Risk Monster reevaluates the plant risk based on the Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA) results. A brief description of Risk Monster is provided. The PSA model of UCN 3, 4 nuclear power plant was converted by KAERI to Risk Monster model. Using this Risk Monster model, a feasibility study of the on-line maintenance of an Essential Service Water (ESW) pump was performed. On-line maintenance of one ESW pump has been shown to be acceptably safe, and has economic benefits. In addition, it is not a violation of technical specification to continue plant operation with an out-of-service ESW pump.

Background: Although the PSA test has been used in Korea for over 20 years, the incidence of prostate cancer has risen, and the associated mortality has increased about 13-fold over the 20-year period. Also, several investigators have suggested that Asians in America are more likely to present with more advanced prostate cancer than Caucasians. We compared the characteristics of native Koreans and Americans (Caucasians and African-Americans) undergoing radical prostatectomies in Korea and the US. Materials and Methods: Study subjects comprised patients at Korean and US hospitals from 2004 to 2012 who had undergone radical prostatectomies. We compared the characteristics of the subjects, including age, preoperative prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels, body mass index (BMI), Gleason score, and pathological T stage. Results: In total, 1,159 males (502 Koreans, 657 Americans) were included. The Korean and American patients had mean ages of $67.1{\pm}6.6$ and $59.2{\pm}6.7$ years, respectively. The mean preoperative PSAs were $15.4{\pm}17.9$ and $6.2{\pm}4.6ng/mL$ (p=0.0001) and the mean BMIs were $23.6{\pm}2.6$ and $28.7{\pm}4.4kg/m^2$ (p=0.0001), respectively. Pathological localized prostate cancer represented 71.7% of cases for Koreans and 77.6% for Americans (p=0.07). According to age, Koreans had higher T stages than Americans in their 50s (p=0.021) and higher Gleason scores than Americans in all age groups. According to PSA, Koreans had higher Gleason scores than Americans for PSA >10 ng/mL (p<0.05). According to prostate size and Gleason scores, Koreans had higher PSA values than Americans (p<0.01). Conclusions: These results show that Korean patients have elevated risk of malignant prostate cancers, as indicated by the significantly higher Gleason scores and PSAs, suggesting a need for novel prostate cancer treatment strategies in Korea.

18-fluoro-2-deoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography ($^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT) scans are commonly used for the staging and restaging of various malignancies, such as head and neck, breast, colorectal and gynecological cancers. However, the value of FDG PET/CT for detecting prostate cancer is unknown. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical value of incidental prostate $^{18}F$-FDG uptake on PET/CT scans. We reviewed $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT scan reports from September 2009 to September 2013, and selected cases that reported focal/diffuse FDG uptake in the prostate. We analyzed the correlation between $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT scan findings and data collected during evaluations such as serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels, digital rectal examination (DRE), transrectal ultrasound (TRUS), and/or biopsy to confirm prostate cancer. Of a total of 18,393 cases, 106 (0.6%) exhibited abnormal hypermetabolism in the prostate. Additional evaluations were performed in 66 patients. Serum PSA levels were not significantly correlated with maximum standardized uptake values (SUVmax) in all patients (rho 0.483, p=0.132). Prostate biopsies were performed in 15 patients, and prostate cancer was confirmed in 11. The median serum PSA level was 4.8 (0.55-7.06) ng/mL and 127.4 (1.06-495) ng/mL in the benign and prostate cancer groups, respectively. The median SUVmax was higher in the prostate cancer group (mean 10.1, range 3.8-24.5) than in the benign group (mean 4.3, range 3.1-8.8), but the difference was not statistically significant (p=0.078). There was no significant correlation between SUVmax and serum PSA, prostatic volume, or Gleason score. $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT scans did not reliably differentiate malignant or benign from abnormal uptake lesions in the prostate, and routine prostate biopsy was not usually recommended in patients with abnormal FDG uptake. Nevertheless, patients with incidental prostate uptake on $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT scans should not be ignored and should be undergo further clinical evaluations, such as PSA and DRE.
In this paper, we measured the variations of radon concentrations in groundwater using low-level Liquid Scintillation Counter (LSC), an instrument for analyzing the alpha and beta radionuclides at its 10 sites around the Kumjung-Gu, north-western of Busan. Optimization of Pulse Shape Analyzer (PSA) to determinate the highest value of figure of merit (FM) was decided using Quantulus 1200 LSC with radium-226 source, the optimal PSA level was shown in the range of 100 to 110. The results show that the Minimum Detectable Activity (MDA) of radon concentrations is 0.61 $Bq{\cdot}L^{-1}$ for 20 minutes in PSA level. We find that the average radon concentration in groundwater is high in granitic rock area and low in volcanic rock area. (Biotite granite : 191.39 $Bq{\cdot}L^{-1}$, Micro graphic granite : 141.88 $Bq{\cdot}L^{-1}$, Adamellite : 92.94 $Bq{\cdot}L^{-1}$, Andesite (volcanic) : 35.35 $Bq{\cdot}L^{-1}$). No significant seasonal variation pattern is observed from the long-term variation analysis from 10 selected sites. We have not seen the significant correlation of radon concentration to groundwater temperature, atmospheric temperature, atmospheric pressure and rainfall. The concentration variation is probably caused by more complex factors and processes.
