The results of an experimental study on the manufacture and the mechanical properties of carbon fiber reinforced silica fume.cement composites and light weight fly ash.cement composites are presented in this paper. The CF reinforced silica fume.cement composites using silica fume early strength cement were prepared with Pan-derived or Pitch-derived CF, and Lt. Wt, fly ash.cement composites using fly ash, early strength cement, perlite and a small amount of foaming agent. As the test results show, the flexural strength, toughness and ductility of CF reinforced silica fume .cement composites were remarkably increased by fiber contents. Also, the manufacturing process technology of Lt. Wt. fly ash.cement composites was developed and its optimum mix proportions were proposed. And the compressive and flexural strength of the fly ash.cement composites by hot water cured were improved even more than by moist cured, but are decreased by increasing fly ash replaced ratio for cement.
The paper explores the potential of applicability of Genetic programming approach (GP), adopted in this investigation, to model the combined effects of five independent variables to predict the mini-slump, the plate cohesion meter, the induced bleeding test, the J-fiber penetration value, and the compressive strength at 7 and 28 days of self-compacting slurry infiltrated fiber concrete (SIFCON). The variables investigated were the proportions of limestone powder (LSP) and sand, the dosage rates of superplasticiser (SP) and viscosity modifying agent (VMA), and water-to-binder ratio (W/B). Twenty eight mixtures were made with 10-50% LSP as replacement of cement, 0.02-0.06% VMA by mass of cement, 0.6-1.2% SP and 50-150% sand (% mass of binder) and 0.42-0.48 W/B. The proposed genetic models of the self-compacting SIFCON offer useful modelling approach regarding the mix optimisation in predicting the fluidity, the cohesion, the bleeding, the penetration, and the compressive strength.
For highly reliable devices it is often defined to "fail" when its performance degrades below a specified value. In this paper we consider a method for optimally designing accelerated degradation tests(ADTs) in which the performance over exposure time and stress has Weibull distribution. For the product whose performance has Weibull distribution, the optimum plan - low stress level and sample proportions allocated to each test condition - is obtained, which minimize the asymptotic variance of maximum likelihood estimator of a stated quantile at design stress. We also present compromise ADTs plan that can be used for the practical purpose.
This experimental study was performed to produce high flowing nomal strength concrete using viscosity agent. Test variables were selected to the viscosity agent contents with 4 levels, the cement contents with 5 levels and the coarse aggregate contents with 3 levels, etc. As a result, the high flowing and filling properties of concrete were obtatined by proper amount of viscosity agent and superplasticizer in the normal strength concrete. For the concrete mix proportions, it was found that unit weight of cement was more than 364kg/㎥ and volume of coarse aggregate was less than $280\ell/\textrm{m}^3$ in this study.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the adhesion of concrete pipe lining using polymer mortar. The polymer mortars with various mix proportions are prepared, and tested for flexural and compressive strengths, adhesion in tension, and the aspects of lining surface and workability are evaluated. Form the test results, it is apparent that the appropriate polymer mortars of lining to concrete pipe can be produced. The flexural and compressive strengths of polymer mortar for lining are affected by type of resin, and aggregates content, and water content at the surface of concrete pipe is important factor for improvement in adhesion of polymer mortar. It is obvious that the economical polymer mortars having an excellent cost performance ration can be produced through this study.
The slag through sieve #4 replaced the natural fine aggregate in different proportions (0-50%) to make ready-mixed soil and slag (RMSAS). The fresh properties studied, and the concrete specimens were produced to test the hardened properties at different ages. Results showed that the workability of RMSAS decreases when the replacement increases. The unit weight increases with the replacement. The setting time extends when the replacement decreases and shortens when the replacement increases. The compressive strength, ultrasonic pulse velocity and hammer rebound value increase with the replacement. However, the high-replacement results decrease because of the expansion factor at late age. Resistivity is close and less than $20k{\Omega}-cm$. After the industrial of steelmaking by-products are processed properly, they can be used in civil engineering, not only as a substitute for natural resources and to reduce costs, but also to provide environmental protection.
Oyster shell is produced by shucking process in oyster farming in southern coast of Korea. In average, about 6.7kg of oyster shell is produced as an industrial waste for 1kg of oyster flesh, and even only in last year, it is estimated that about 150,000 ton of oyster shell is produced. Oyster shell is light weighted and the strength characteristic of it is similar to sand. So we produced mortar test using different law of multiple proportions of grounded oyster shell powder of its particle size according to fine aggregate standard and reviewed strength Properties.
In this paper, a series of monotonic undrained shear tests were carried out on four kinds of sand-fine mixtures with various fines content. Two kinds of sands (Silica sand V3, V6) and fines (Iwakuni natural clay, Tottori silt) were mixed together in various proportions, while paying attention to the void ratio expressed in terms of sand structure $(F_c{\leq}F_{cth})$. The undrained shear strength of mixtures below the threshold fines content was observed so that as the plastic fines content increases, maximum deviator stress ratio decrease for dense samples while an increase is noted for loose samples. For non-plastic fines, the increase in the amount of fines leads to an increase in density of the soil, which results in an increase in strength. Then, the monotonic shear strength of the mixtures was estimated using the concept of granular void ratio. It was found that the shear strength of mixtures is greatly dependent on the skeleton structure of sand particles.
There are several models for process quality assurance by quality system (ISO 9000), process capability analysis, acceptance control chart and so on. When a high level process capability has been achieved, it takes a long time to monitor the process shift, so it is sometimes necessary to develop a quicker monitoring system. To achieve a quicker quality assurance model for high-reliability process, this paper presents a model for process quality assurance when the fraction nonconforming is very small. We design an acceptance control chart based on variable quality characteristic and time-censored accelerated testing. The distribution of the characteristics is assumed to be normal or lognormal with a location parameter of the distribution that is a linear function of a stress. The design parameters are sample size, control limits and sample proportions allocated to low stress. These paramaters are obtained under minimization of the relative variance of the MLE of location parameter subject to APL and RPL constraints.
Prediction of the early-stage strength of concrete is useful for modernized concrete construction. An experiment was attempted on the high-strength of concrete produced by ordinary portland cement under the curing temperatures of 30, 20, $10^{\cire}C$ and the various mixing proportions such as water-binder ratio of 0.30, 0.35 and silica fume content of 10% by weight of cement. It is the aim of this study to investigare and compare the development of concrete strength with maturity and analyze the application of Maturity as a parameter to correlation estimate test results of concrete. They are statistically analyzed to infer the correlation coefficient between the Maturity and the compressive strength of high-strength concrete.
