  • Research sponsored by the Korean Government investigated the establishment of a risk management process by Korean contractors involved with plant projects in the Middle East. This research effort builds upon the work completed by the Construction Industry Institute (CII), called the International Project Risk Assessment (IPRA) tool and method, and also explored how CII's Project Definition Rating Index (PDRI) could be incorporated to improve project planning by addressing risks and scope development issues. Specific findings and recommendations were developed including the creation of the Contractor Critical Areas of Concern (CCAC) risk screening tool for Korean contractors pursuing Middle East oil and gas projects.

The Effect of Project Risk and Risk Management on Software Development Project Performance (프로젝트 위험과 위험관리가 소프트웨어 개발 프로젝트 성과에 미치는 영향)

  • Based on the IS literature on software project risk management, we developed an integrated model to investigate the risk factors and risk management factors in project development. We also analyzed the interrelation between project risk and project risk management. The questionaries are collected from 83 project leaders. We tested reliability and validity of the measure and analyzed the obtained data. The results support our risk-based hypothesis that shows the importance of risk management in reducing project risks and improving performance of project and process.

The Effects of Research Project Program on the Science Process Skills and Science-Related Attitudes of High School Students (과제연구 프로그램이 고등학생들의 과학 탐구능력 및 과학에 관련된 태도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of research project program of science process skills and science-related attitudes for high school students. This study were accompanied by 72 junior students of G High School who were reorganized as students whose research subject was closely related to chemistry. These students went through 28 periods of 14 sessions of research project program, were tested before and after the study on their science process skills and science-related attitudes. A simple questionnaire afterwards to get their thoughts on this program, was surveyed. The results are as follows. First, the research project program was effective in the science process skills (p<0.01). There was a statistically meaningful difference in the subcategory of deduction, setting up hypotheses, finding variables, building experiments, graphing and interpreting data. Although there was an increase in the average scores of prediction, operant definition, and generalization factors, it was not statistically meaningful (p>0.05). Second, the research project program showed an increase in the post-test of the science-related attitudes but was not statistically meaningful (p>0.05). In terms of subcategoty, the social importance of science, criterion of scientists, application of scientific attitude, and enjoyment of science classes were statistically meaningful (p<0.05). Third, according to the survey of research project program, there was an increase in creating a research problem and solving it by oneself as well as in participating with other teammates to solve a problem. But the most difficult thing was when the experiment failed during the research was processing. The curiosity and interest, towards objects around all lives and science classes after the program done, were increased.

  • This paper consider a six sigma project for improving the TIP life time in a spot welding process. The project follows a disciplined process of five phases: define, measure, analyze, improve, and control. A process map is used to identify process input and output variables. Nine key process input variables are selected by using C&E matrix and FMEA, and finally four vital few input variables are selected from analyze phase. The optimum process conditions of the four vital few input variables are jointly obtained by maximizing TIP life time using DOE.

  • Environmental impact assessment (EIA), which predicts, evaluates, and manages the influences on natural landscape, plays a role of monitoring natural resources for systematic management of natural landscape. However, the function of verification and correction of the system is still insufficient and feed-back, one of the most important features of EIA follow-up, has not been introduced in Korea's EIA system yet. As a procedure, it is required to check if the opinions of the evaluators are properly reflected to the outcomes of the project through a reviewing process after assessing environmental impacts of a development project. In reality, despite the awareness about the importance of follow-up inspection of the conformity with, the system mainly focuses on the agreement during the planning stage of the development project and fails to continuously manage after its completion. There have been various preceding studies related to prediction, evaluation, and management of environmental impacts on natural landscape for better management. They primarily dealt with the problems in the EIA process and suggested improvement measures, including directions for institutional development, step-by-step goals, and operation methods, to address the problems which arise in the EIA follow-up process. However, suggested measures are not actively applied with the focus only put on institutional operation, there are virtually no standardized methods to predict and assess landscape changes due to the development project and to manage landscape after the project. Against this backdrop, this study aims to explore the existing methods to analyze the impacts natural landscape and to establish a system where landscape management is continued after the development project. To this end, we will suggest reducing methods according to the predicted changes in landscape for post-project management of natural landscape. Characteristics of reduction methods by project type were examined through reviewing the guide to natural landscape rating and the importance of development project impacts on natural landscape by type of reduction was evaluated through questionnaire for experts. Evaluated types of reduction are classified and presented by characteristics of each development project and content of reduction type.

  • The purpose of this study is to set up the GIS Audit methodology through the definition of standard procedure ailed GIS Audit criteria and the result of preliminary study about the GIS Audit. the frame of GIS Audit criteria and the result of preliminary study about the GIS Project and check the GIS Audit methodology is to define a standard process of GIS Project and check the GIS Project according to the standard process. We named the method as CASP(GIS Audit Standard Procedure). GASP method means doing Pilot Project for setting the sample standard procedure(named Prototype) of total GIS Project process, and checking the activity to fulfill the prototype. GASP method is advanced method for GIS Audit to analyze the full range of GIS Project and characteristics of GIS contents.

  • The BTL project, 4 years since its operation, has benchmarked the PFI Project in Japan and has been introduced. Given the evaluation step to select a preferred bidder, in a technological factor, the basic plans are corrected and complemented, whereas in a price factor, the low price bidding system is being enforced. There is concern that how to select preferred bidders and how to operate project costs during operation and management period may be problematic. Thus, in this study, using the Analytic Hierarchy Process, the method of deciding the pribrity to select preferred bidders in an early stage of the project and the evaluation model to evaluate the validity of BTL project expenses in process of project enforcement are established. Targeting the group. composed of experts who have experiences in the BTL project. Then, the levelling of evaluation factors and grouping have been carried out as following: LCC analysis and disbursement for government including two more detailed factors.

A Study on the Changes of the Apartment price in Accordance with Project process of Super high-rise mixed use buildings (초고층 주상복합 건물의 개발사업 단계에 따른 주변지역 아파트가격의 변화에 관한 연구)

  • High-rising buildings are a sort of solution to recent cities. Till now real estate development was concentrated in new development on vacant lots, and it resulted urban sprawl. Generally large cities are confronted with the exodus of industry and population from city. High-rising buildings solve many problems associated with this problem. The purpose of this research is to identify the effect of super high-rise mixed use building project process on apartment price. For this study, the hypothesis is that price of apartments is influenced by project process of super high-rise mixed use building. The study concerned 4 variations of project process that is building permits stage, sale stage, construction starting stage and stage of moving into building. The target projects of buildings are selected by number of floor(over 40 floors) and construction time. And 48 apartment complex are selected around super high-rise mixed use building. This study uses hedonic price function to analysis effect of project process of super high-rise mixed use building. A price of apartments is defined as a dependent variable. Characteristics of residence, complex, district and super high-rise building are defined as independent variables. The results are as follows; first, there is no error in price model of this study. Second, it is found that apartment price was influenced negatively by building permit stage and sale stage of super high-rise mixed use building. But that was influenced positively by construction starting stage and stage of moving into building of that. Third, as the project process of super high-rise mixed use building was proceeded, price of apartments was increased.
