Design of Teaching Method for SW Education Based On Python and Team-Shared Mental Model (파이썬과 팀 공유정신모형을 활용한 SW교육 방법의 설계)

  • According to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, SW education is emphasized around the world to educate student with new abilities. Following to these global trends, SW education has become mandatory in Korea's 2015 revised curriculum. However, Korean elementary SW education is focused on the use of block-based programming languages. In addition, the point of view of selecting goals and organizing content of SW Education, the affective domain is ignored and focused only on the cognitive and psychomotor domains. So, this study explored method of SW education using the concept of Team-Shared Mental Model for develop of community capacity and Python, which is textual programming language gaining popularity recently. As a result of performing the post test t-test on two groups with similar Team-Shared Mental Model formation, we found that it was effective in forming a Team-Shared Mental Model of the group applying the SW teaching method suggested in the study.

A Study on a Computer Program Visualization Method Effective for the e-Learning Contents (이 러닝 콘텐츠에 효과적인 컴퓨터 프로그램 시각화 방안에 대한 연구)

  • With the advance of the Internet and computing technologies, e-learning is now a hot issue worldwide for providing the effective learning on the cyber-space. However, most of existing e-learning contents have been developed mainly based on text, including simple multimedia elements such as images, animations, and voices. This paper suggests a method effective for the computer programming e-learning. The method is based on program visualization using flowcharts. It features the stepwise hierarchical program visualization on the level of statements, the flowchart based visualization for control constructs of languages, visualization over whole programs, visualization compared with source codes, and interaction with users. Finally, we implement a system to realize the suggested method, and execute it for an example program.

Usability Analysis of Algorithm Visualization Tool for Learning Basic Algorithms (기초 알고리즘 학습을 위한 알고리즘 시각화 시스템의 효용성 분석)

  • The curriculum of programming education including algorithm has been recognized as a very important subject to many students majoring in natural sciences and engineering including electronic engineering and computer related departments. This study analyzed usability of the learning system of programming languages using basic algorithms so as for students to easily learn basic algorithm among the entire programming curriculum. The results show that the grade of learning achievement of experimental group using the learning system is 15 points higher than that of non-experimental group and the grade of interest, concentration, effectiveness, understanding, convenience, suitability, and attending a lecture in the next semester are 4 points or more of 5 points criterion.

  • In this study, the study conducted an analysis of the generic type of personality classes in the programming language class of the industrial high school, and conducted a thorough identification of the central type. Learners studied C language in the preceding academic year. Typology and classes of Java programming followed by classes. Prior to the start of the fourth week of the school semester, it conducted a preliminary examination of the contents of the contents of the C language similar to those of C language and language, and conducted a preliminary examination before the vacation ceremony. Through this study, we learned the difficulties and benefits of learning various programming languages.

Robot-based Coding Education System with Step by Step Software Training

  • Recently, the perception of software education, which had been considered as a field of education for programmers in this field, is changing in response to recent changes with the trend of 4th industrial revolution. Major counties competitively invest in software education and the target age group for software education is also on the decline. However, the traditional text-based programing languages such as JAVA and Python, have a high entry barrier. To address the shortcoming, a variety of methods have been recently proposed for the effective software education for kindergarten and elementary school student. In this paper, we propose a robot-based coding education system with steps for coding education for effective software education. The proposed method is divided into three stages, depending on the level of the student being trained in the software coding education to interact with robots. The proposed stages consists of unplugged coding using a remote control, coding using a graphic-based programming language and text- based coding. We conducted an experiment with performing separate missions while providing propoer tutorials for each stage to verify the effectiveness of the proposed software education system.

A Study on the Development of a Problem Bank in an Automated Assessment Module for Data Visualization Based on Public Data

  • Utilizing programming languages for data visualization can enhance the efficiency and effectiveness in handling data volume, processing time, and flexibility. However, practice is required to become proficient in programming. Therefore public data-based the problem bank was developed to practice data visualization in a programming automatic assessment system. Public data were collected based on topics suggested in the curriculum and were preprocessed to make it suitable for users to visualize. The problem bank was associated with the mathematics curriculum to learn various data visualization methods. The developed problems were reviewed to expert and pilot testing, which validated the level of the questions and the potential of integrating data visualization in math education. However, feedback indicated a lack of student interest in the topics, leading us to develop additional questions using student-center data. The developed problem bank is expected to be used when students who have learned Python in primary school information gifted or middle school or higher learn data visualization.

The Effect of EPL Programming Loaming on Logical Thinking Ability by the Meta-Cognition Level (메타인지 수준에 따른 EPL 프로그래밍 학습이 논리적 사고에 미치는 영향)

  • There has been insufficient studies on the effect of programming language learning on logical thinking ability. Each study result on the improvement degree and items of logical thinking ability is different according to the object of the study, its method, and the learning subject, which makes the generalization process difficult. Moreover, the necessity of programming language learning seems not proved, because it is not apparent whether the improvement of logical thinking ability is due to the advancement of knowledge or programming language learning. In this study, we instructed educational programming languages to elementary students in 6th grade for 7 hours, investigated its effect on logical-thinking ability by the meta-cognition level, and compared the result with that of computer skill learning. As a result, for Dolittle, LOGO, and Powerpoint learning groups, the logical-thinking ability of high meta-cognition level students has increased with significance, but that of low meta-cognition level students has significantly increased for Dolittle and LOGO groups only. However, regardless of meta-cognition levels, there was no significant difference of logical-thinking ability between all three groups.

Critical IS Knowledge and Skills Required by Indusrties : Findings form Korea (정보시스템 실무자들이 필요로 하는 지식 및 기술)

  • This paper classifies the critical knowledge/skill set required to IS practitioners according to content or domain of knowledge : IS technology knowledge/skills, organizational and societal knowledge/skills, interpersonal knowledge/skills, and personal traits knowledge/skills. The survey reveals that Korean IS practitioners rate interpersonal knowledge/skills and personal traits knowledge/skills the most important, and organizational and societal knowledge/skills the least important. Specifically, they rate creative thinking, critical thinking, interpersonal communication skills, team working skills, personal motivation, operating systems, programming languages, DB/data warehouse, IS technological trend, networkicommunicationisecurity especially important. The survey also shows that Koran IS practitioners feel knowledge deficiency in almost all knowledge/skills areas. The results confirm that the curriculum of universities, the training and education programs of industries, and IS/IT education policy of the government should be revised as soon as possible.

The Effects of Algorithm Learning with Squeak Etoys on Middle School Students' Problem Solving Ability (Squeak Etoys 활용 알고리즘 학습이 중학생의 문제해결력에 미치는 영향)

  • Many former researchers demonstrated that algorithm learning has a positive outcome on students' problem-solving abilities. One of the methods for algorithm learning, the 'programming learning' method is highly effective. However, there are numerous constraints in schools for programming learning. This study attempts to overcome these issues. Squeak Etoys, one of the educational visual programming languages for easy and interesting learning, has been selected as a learning tool. We developed the algorithm-learning curriculum for middle school students. They were divided into a control group and an experimental group. The students learned on the basis of equal curriculum but, they used other learning tools through over a total 6 sessions. The result showed that Squeak Etoys based Algorithm learning has a positive effect on improving middle school learners' problem solving abilities, self-efficacies and logical thinking abilities. Although the students' logical thinking abilities in the experimental group are improved a lot more than the students' abilities in control group, the students' logical think abilities in the both groups are improved. Therefore, algorithm education in secondary schools are necessary. In conclusion, Squeak Etoys based Algorithm learning has a positive effect on problem solving ability and self efficacy. The developed curriculum can be applicable as a basis for study on algorithm learning and educational programming language.

Design and Application of Web Contents for Integrated Programming Language Course (프로그래밍 언어의 통합 교육을 위한 웹 콘텐츠의 설계 및 운용)

  • There have not been integrated courses for education of C and Java programming languages in most universities. Based on similarities and uniqueness and the previous lecturing of each language, we designed and made an integrated programming course. In this paper, we introduce the web-based contents which make the successful and effective application of the new course. The web-based contents consist of the main page, the course materials, the auxiliary materials, and the bulletin board, and supports a variety of practices with the examples. From the application of the web-based contents to the practical lectures, we notice that understandability, satisfaction, and the programming skills of students significantly increase comparing to that of the previous respective courses.
