  • Kodu made by MS is a new 3D visual programming language made specifically for creating games. This language is based on creativity, problem-solving methods, and storytelling. So, it is very suitable for game programming education for kids. In this paper, we designed learning method to develop games based on elementary school students' creative thinking. The instruction was given to 27 6-grade elementary school students in 30 hours. And we applied the learning method in class. Also, we analyzed the changes in the learners' creative thinking and the learning effects of game programming.

  • Scratch programming comes into the spotlight as Education Programming Language. Especially, it is made better use at educational class by accessibility and visuality in elementary school. But most of latest research is just focus on effective for programming education and prove effectiveness once more. In this study, possibility about curriculum using Scratch programming and specific applicable methods were suggested. This research suggested that how to study with scratch programming through lesson "Make a pattern" in 5th grade Math curriculum at elementary school. And there was reflected that we can verify programming procedure visually and improve creativity.

  • Even though studies on improvement of programming language teaching and learning have been made continuously and many education courseware for programming languages have been developed, computer programming learners' performance is relatively poor. Thus, in this paper, we designed and realized a web- based visual programming learning system by applying cognitive apprenticeship model to improve effect of computer programming education and then put this system into practice in class. As a result, we suggested that it can have positive influence upon learners' performance and their attitude.

  • In this paper, we introduce a new programming learning system for young students. The programming learning system consists of a LED display kit and a web-based flowchart system. The LED display kit acts as an output device by way of displaying lights while following a set of instructions given through a flowchart programming. In the flowchart system, the students use symbolic variables for the calculation and can get various displays or animations after creating a flowchart by drag-and-drop. Then we describe the survey results of various programming classes using our system between fall 2005 and spring 2009. The programming teaching was conducted with diverse groups such as elementary school students, gifted students, college students, and teachers etc. The responses from our in class surveys were generally positive.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the difficulties of learners who started programming after entering college and to search an effective software education method as university liber arts for non-science major students. In order to do this, we analyzed the difficulties of learners in Python programming classes composed of students from various majors at H University through questioning and taught them using flipped class model with pre-questions. The questions that students submit are collected online before class every time, the data on the degree of the difficulty of feeling and the understanding of feeling were obtained through the questionnaire. As a result, for learners who are new to programming, the learners should allocate the process of making the problem into a logical abstraction at the beginning of the curriculum before learning the basic concept of computer language, each lesson should be practiced through the bottom-up problems enough to provide a logical understanding before actual coding. In addition, detailed curriculum should be developed according to characteristics of learner's major, contents and conducting level.

  • In this paper, a system configuration method that can practice Linux-based programming language online is presented. The proposed system utilizes the web-server function, which is the biggest feature of the Linux operating system, and simulates the telnet and FTP functions without firewalls or other security restrictions, so that it is possible to practice similar to the actual Linux console. To do this, we analyzed the functional elements that a programming tool should have on the web and established an algorithm to implement it. In particular, a method was implemented in which an error message caused by a user's mistake can appear in the same form as the actual telnet screen. As a result of using the implemented learning system in the class for students, it is possible to practice the Linux programming language online, as well as the instructor can directly check and guide all the learners, so the learner's satisfaction is similar to that of the offline class was confirmed.

  • In this paper, we designed instructional method through process that make digital work for active copyright education. This design composed by game-themed programming. We made students realize the effort of creation in algorithm and flow chart, coding progress. And, expressed the effort as copyright sign and cost. Also, we evaluate mutually and did so that confirm value. We applied proposed method to class. And, analyzed effect observing change of inside of students.

  • As an emphasis has been put on the importance of computational thinking, universities have opened software educational programs as required basic courses.. Therefore this study aimed to examine non-major students' perceptions of programming before and after they had programing education. To this end, this study performed programming education for 15 weeks using the Scratch programming language, and then conducted a questionnaire survey. This study analyzed responses from 214 students. According to the results of the analysis, 74 % of the non-major students had no previous experience with programming, 87% felt that programming was difficult, and 69.7% answered that they did not need programming education. To change these negative perceptions of programming, this study made the following suggestions. First, the professor should clearly convey the needs, purposes, and content of programming education to students prior to class. Second, programming should be designated as an optional course rather than required one. Third, it is necessary to develop content integrated with majors, or educational programs or content connected to getting a job or starting a business.

  • The software education to elementary students will be conducted from 2019. One of highlights of software education is a programming experience. It requires a higher level of programming education to students that are interested in programming. This problem can be solved by the club activities. But the materials for programming education for elementary students is not much. Therefore, we developed a programming material for club activities of the elementary school. We did not develop it as a programming manual. The students can understand a problem, can design through decomposition and abstraction processes, and can write a program when they are learning with this material. As a result, we expect that they can enhance their computational thinking abilities. We proved that our material is suitable for elementary students through a demonstration class. Therefore, we expect that our development methodologies for the material for programming education will contribute to develop a material for programming education.

  • Pair programming is a software development technique in which two programmers work together at one computer. One writes code while the other reviews the code, and they switch roles frequently. Pair-programming practice in school programming lab is expected to improve the learning performance, provide collaboration experience, and promote interactions between students. This work finds out how students accept pair-programming, what make students reluctant to join pair-programming by repeated questionnaire surveys in a college programming lab class. Based on these findings aome guidelines for school pair-programming are provided. First, students should be allowed to choose to do pair-programming or not. Second, various obstacles that make students hesitate to switch roles should be removed. Third, the pair matching should be made with great care.
