Effects of Socio-cultural Pressure and Objectified Body Consciousness on the Behavior of Women for Appearance Management (사회문화적 압력과 대상화된 신체의식이 성인여성의 외모관리행동에 미치는 영향)

  • The purposes of this study were to verify how internalization of ideal beauty stereotype and objectified body consciousness by sociocultural pressure factors had an influence on body satisfaction and examine the relation between body satisfaction and appearance management behavior. To achieve the purposes, a survey was conducted to 419 female adults, whose ages were from 18 to 29. Data were analyzed by structure equation modeling of Amos 4.0 and SPSS 10.0 program. The results of this study were summarized as follows: First, there were significant differences in sociocultural pressure, objectified body consciousness, internalization of ideal beauty stereotype, body satisfaction and appearance management behavior variables. Second, sociocultural pressure factors such as, family, friends, media had a positive effect on objectification that female adults saw themselves from the viewpoint of a watcher; when females more highly recognized sociocultural pressure like family, friends and media, their satisfaction with body became lower. Third, when females had high tendency of objectification and high body satisfaction, they affirmatively managed their appearance.

A Path Analysis of Factors Influencing Health-related Quality of Life among Male Adults (성인 남성의 건강 관련 삶의 질에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 경로 분석)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze factors influencing health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among male adults. Methods: Participants were 196 male adults who were recruited from June to July 2016. Seven variables related to HRQoL including age, perceived stress, physical activities, problem drinking, social support, self-esteem, depression were measured. Data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 20.0 program and Amos 18.0 for descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficients and path analysis. Results: The mean for HRQoL was 80.14. The path analysis showed that depression had the greatest direct effect on HRQoL. It was found that perceived stress had direct and total effects on HRQoL. It also mediated the paths of social support and self-esteem to HRQoL. These factors account for 68% of the total variance, and the fit indices of the model satisfied the criteria of fitness. Conclusion: The results indicate that these factors influencing HRQoL should be considered when developing programs to improve HRQoL for male adults.

  • This research utilized integrated package program of PASW Statistics 18.0 and AMOS 22.0 to analyze how the influence of service quality factor of coffee chains affects customer satisfaction and intention of customer behavior. The utilized statistics techniques were frequency analysis, exploratory, confirmatory factor analysis, covariance structure analysis, multiple group structure equation model analysis, etc. As a result of hypothesis verification, first of all, it was verified that the service quality factor of coffee chains affected positive (+) effect on service justice. Second, it was verified that the service justice affected positive (+) effect on customer satisfaction. To see it detailed, it is possible to see that all factors, perception of interactive justice, distributive justice, procedural justice, were adopted as the case of affecting service satisfaction (p<.001). Third, it was verified that among the circumstances that service quality affected to satisfaction, justice played a role as intermediary role. Fourth, it was verified that service satisfaction affected positive (+) effect on customer satisfaction, finally, the influence that customer satisfaction affecting behavioral intention has no effect on behavioral intention by brands of domestic or abroad.

Effects of Self-efficacy, Career Plateau, Job Embeddedness, and Organizational Commitment on the Turnover Intention of Nurses (간호사의 자기효능감, 경력정체, 직무착근도 및 조직몰입이 이직의도에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study was designed to construct a structural equation model and identify the effects and relationships of self-efficacy, career plateau, job embeddedness, organizational commitment and intent to turnover for nurses. Also, an attempt was made to derive a hypothetical model from these factors and to verify whether the model has validity as a means of explaining and anticipating turnover intention of nurses. Methods: Data were collected from six randomly selected hospitals: a university hospital located in J city, Kyungnam and five general hospitals located in two cities (cities B and C), each having 400 to 720 beds. Also, 318 nurses were surveyed. Data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 18.0 program. Results: Job embeddedness and organizational commitment were identified as the most likely paths to turn over intention. Also, organizational commitment had the highest direct effect on turnover intention followed by job embeddedness and then self-efficacy, but career plateau had an indirectly effected turnover intention. Conclusion: As turnover intention was found to be greatly affected by organizational commitment and job embeddedness, methods to improve organizational commitment and job embeddedness should be actively developed to reduce turnover intention among nurses.

Structural Equation Modeling on Nursing Productivity of Nurses in Korea (간호생산성 영향요인 구조모형 분석)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to propose and test a predictive model that could explain and predict nursing productivity. Methods: A survey using a structured questionnaire was conducted with 360 nurses in Korea. The data were analyzed using SPSS Windows 18.0 and AMOS 19.0 program. Results: Based on the constructed model, burnout and organizational commitment were found to have direct effects on nurses' turnover intention and nursing productivity. While nursing work environment was found to have indirect effects on nurses' turnover intention and nursing productivity. Conclusion: This structural equational model is a comprehensive theoretical model that explains the related factors and their relationship with nursing productivity. Comprehensive organizational interventions to improve nursing productivity should focus on improving the nursing work environment. Findings from this study can be used to design appropriate strategies to decrease nurse turnover in Korea. Further studies are needed to prospectively verify these causal relationships with larger samples.

The Effect of Type of Communication by Physical Therapists on Patient Satisfaction and Revisit Intention

  • Purpose: This study sought to identify the effect of various types of communication by physical therapists on patient satisfaction and revisit intention. Methods: A total of 212 patients who received physical therapy in Seoul and the Gyeonggi province were surveyed on patient satisfaction and revisit intentions depending on the types of communication by physical therapists. Frequency and correlation analyses were conducted to process the data using the SPSS 22.0 program, and the AMOS 18.0 statistical package was used for confirmatory factor analysis. A structural equation modeling analysis was also performed to verify the model and the hypothesis that was set up in the present paper. Results: The survey showed that patient satisfaction correlates positively and significantly with patient-centric communication, physical factors, and spatial behavior. A significant negative correlation was also found between patient satisfaction and therapist-centered communication. Patient satisfaction positively correlated with revisit intentions. Conclusion: These results showed that there was a positive correlation between the communication of the physical therapist and the satisfaction recognized by a patient. This implies that the patient satisfaction with a physical therapist increases as the communication skills of a physical therapist improve. These findings suggest that a physical therapist must adopt patient-centric communication styles, physical factors, and spatial behavior. This study was important as it generated basic data for the formation of a therapeutic relationship through efficient and promotional communication skills. It recognizes the importance of communication between a physical therapist and a patient as the indispensable factor for interaction.

A path analysis of factors influencing eating problem among young female adults (성인초기여성의 섭식장애에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 경로 분석)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze factors influencing eating problems among young female adults. Methods: Participants were 193 young female adults aged 19 ~ 29 years who were recruited in August 2017. Four variables related to eating problems in young female adults, including body image dissatisfaction, self-esteem, trait anger, and depression, were measured using reliable instruments. Data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program and Amos 24.0 for descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficients, and path analysis. Results: The mean for eating problems in young female adults was 8.99, and 9.8% of subjects were classified as high risk with eating problems. Modified model demonstrated good model fit (${\chi}^2$/df 0.47, GFI 0.99, AGFI 0.99, NFI 0.99, SRMR 0.022, RMSEA 0.001). Path analysis showed that body image dissatisfaction had the greatest direct effect on eating problems. Depression did not have a direct effect on eating problems, whereas it had indirect effects on eating problems through body image dissatisfaction as the mediating factor. Self-esteem had direct effects on depression and indirect effects on eating problems through depression and body image dissatisfaction as mediating factors. Trait anger had direct effects on depression and body image dissatisfaction and indirect effects on eating problems through depression and body image dissatisfaction as mediating factors. These factors accounted for 46% of the total variance, and the fit indices of the model satisfied the criteria of fitness. Conclusion: The results of this study reveal the important role of body dissatisfaction and psychological factors such as self-esteem, trait anger, and depression on eating problems. These factors influencing eating problems should be considered when developing programs to improve eating problems in young female adults.

Validation of a Path Model for Subjective Happiness of Nursing Students (간호대학생의 주관적 행복감 경로모형 분석)

  • This study examined the fitness of a path model for the relationship among self-esteem, social support, self-efficacy, major satisfaction, and subjective happiness in nursing students. The subjects consisted of 416 nursing students, and data were collected during from 10 March to 10 April, 2017, through self-report questionnaires. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics and Pearson's correlations that used PASW 21.0, and AMOS 18.0. The result of this study can be summarized as follows. There were correlation self-esteem, social support, self-efficacy, major satisfaction, and subjective happiness of in nursing students. Second, There were self-esteem, social support, self-efficacy, and major satisfaction showed direct effects on subjective happiness in nursing students, while self-esteem, social support, and self-efficacy showed indirect effects on subjective happiness in nursing students. Third, self-esteem, social support, and self-efficacy showed direct effects on major satisfaction in nursing students, while self-esteem, and social support showed indirect effects on major satisfaction in nursing students. Self esteem, and social support showed direct effects on self-efficacy in nursing students. The hypothetical path model for subjective happiness of nursing students was proven correct. Based on the outcomes of this study, it is necessary to design an intervention program that emphasizes the enhancement of self-esteem, social support, and self-efficacy in order to subjective happiness of nursing students.

The Impact of the Work-Life Balance (WLB) of Flight Attendants on Organizational Commitment, Subjective Career Success, and Turnover Intention (항공사 객실승무원의 일-삶 균형(WLB)이 조직몰입, 주관적 경력성공, 이직의도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of the study is to identify the structural equation modeling among work-life balance(WLB), organizational commitment, subjective career success, and turnover intentions. The study data came from 199 respondents, as flight attendants working for large domestic airlines. The research tested structural equation modeling by utilizing the SPSS20.0 and AMOS20.0 statistical program. As the results, the study found that WLB would have a negative impact on organizational immersion, and secondly, the hypothesis that WLB has a positive impact on the subjective career success of the flight attendants. Third, the hypothesis that the organization immersion of the flight attendants would have a positive impact on subjective career success, and fourth, the hypothesis that organizational immersion has a negative impact on the turnover. However, fifth, the hypothesis that subjective career success would have a negative impact on turnover was dismissed. Finally, the hypothesis that WLB would have a positive impact on turnover was adopted. Based on the results of this analysis, the research presents highly significant theoretical and practical implications.

Effect of Relational Aggression on Depression of Nursing Home Residents -Focusing on Low-income Elderly- (시설거주 노인의 관계적 공격성이 우울감에 미치는 영향 -기초생활수급권자 입소노인을 중심으로-)

  • This study analyzes the effect on depression of mutual relational aggression experienced by elderly residents at charity nursing home. It also verifies the mediated effect of adaption by the residents to the nursing home. For this end, the researchers conduct a survey for 182 elderly residents in 7 charity nursing homes in Seoul and Kyonggi Province. The statistical methods for the analysis were SPSS version 18.0 and AMOS 7.0program. Following are the findings. First, there turns out to be no statistical significant effect between mutual relational aggression and depression. Second, elderly residents' adaption to the nursing home is proved to serve as a mediated effect between mutual relational aggression and depression. In other words, the more the relational aggression, the more difficult it is for residents to be adapted to the nursing home, and the more depressed the residents are prone to be. Following are suggestions based on the findings. First, nursing home staffs need to establish a system in consideration both of relational aggression and of resident's adaption, to reduce its elderly residents' consequential depression. Second, nursing home staffs need to take measures to help adaption of new residents to prevent or reduce their depression. For example, new residents can be allowed to bring their belongings to the nursing home as much as they want and the nursing home can stand. Third, nursing homes also need to develop programs to prevent or reduce any negative relation, including bullying or casting out, among peer residents in the nursing home.
