  • Currently, there are two major problems in professional engineer(PE) licensure system in Korea to be accredited internationally. One is a incompleteness of system connecting the licensure and the accredited engineering education program and the other one is a insufficient working experience condition required for achieving PE license. Therefore, these two problems are setbacks hindering Korea's PE license accredited internationally. In this study, international tendency stream on mutual accreditation of PE license are reviewed first, and the PE licensure system of the major countries are compared and analyzed. Based on the results, requirements improvement plan are suggested and the gradual implementation method are suggested also.

  • Background (Purpose): The objective of this study was to investigate regulations on pharmacist and other healthcare professional license examination in Korea. Specific aim was focused on the implementation of new regulatory system governing pharmacist license examination particularly on naming of the subjects, method of the examination, and discrimination of pass or fail. Method: Laws and regulations of Korea on the examination system were retrieved from sources posted in Ministry of Government Legislation. Results: Two major regulatory differences were found between pharmacist and other healthcare professionals license examination systems. Firstly, the regulation on pharmacist license examination was ruled by the enforcement ordinance of parent law (Pharmacy Law) while it was ruled by enforcement regulation of parent law (Medical Law). Secondly, minimum grade requirement for pharmacist and other healthcare professionals was differently set up: 40% for each single subject in pharmacist and average of 40% for each group of several subjects in other healthcare professionals. Conclusion: Since pharmacist profession has drastically changed from drug-makers to drug-users during the recent decades, it is desirable to have the regulations on pharmacist license examination system amended in harmony with other laws and regulations of Korea and other major developed countries. Two-step examination for pharmacist license appears worthwhile to implement for balancing the two key functions of the pharmacist being drug-makers and drug-users.

A radiologic technologist should be a basic role once they pass the license examination. In addition, they can get a special qualification by subspecialty in radiologic technology. 3. Radiotechnologists' license system classified by subspecialty will be keep priorities in order and done systematically. Execution order is as follows ; This study proposes that radiotechnologists responsible for ultrasonography, computed tomography(CT), magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) and security management be started for the first stage. For the second stage, radiotechnologists for mammography, angio-cardiography, digital imaging, maxillo-facial and dental radiography, nuclear medicine, radio-therapeutic field should be in force. 4. Professional education course(basic and intensive) and clinical training program have to be made for the eligibility of radiotechnologists' license system classified by subspecialty. 5. Eligibility system of radiotechnologists' license system classified by subspecialty(non-government or government) has to be made. • In the early 90's, we had serious shortage of construction engineers in Korea. The shortage was acute especially in construction quality control and supervision area, which were gaining social attention due to the road bridge and the department store collapse that took the hundreds of lives in the early 90's in Seoul, Korea. In order to meet the high demand of construction engineers, the engineering license regulations were changed in 1995. Engineers who did not pass the written exam but have equivalent working experience are given engineering license to practice engineering legally. Since year 2000, while the severe engineer-shortage has been resolved, the opposite situation has occurred: there is serious over-supply of construction engineers. Policy makers and engineering practitioners are agreed to bring back the old-fashioned written exam engineer licensing system like before 1995, i.e., no more written exam exemption. However, the engineers who obtained license without taking written exam may not want to go back to old policy which would take their license. It is required to provide appropriate grace period before the new policy takes effect to minimize the impact of the changes. This paper forecasts the supply-demand of construction engineers providing the basis for the most appropriate policy changes.
