  • Korea professional baseball industry has grown to take the lion's share of the domestic sports industry, but still does not make break even. The purpose of this study is to examine the financial impact of adopting the Customer Relation Management (CRM) approach on the profitability of Korea professional baseball industry. We use a measuring tool called entropy used in ID3 decision tree algorithm. In the paper, we specify five the most important factors that affect spectator satisfaction based on the previous literature, perform survey analysis, calculate entropy values, and find the results. We predicted the change in revenues when we adopt CRM by checking the spectators' willingness to pay more when the conditions of each factor are improved. We find that we can reap significant fruits of the effect of CRM introduction through enhancing 'game content factor' and 'game promotion factor' among the five factors. We also find that we can increase the revenues of domestic professional baseball teams to 2.4 times or 2.1 times the current level if we manage intensively those two factors respectively. It is very surprising to see that the improvement in total revenues makes both ends meet for domestic professional baseball teams. This clearly demonstrates the effectiveness of CRM approach in improving the profitability of organizations.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify professional competencies of visiting nurses in public health centers. Methods: A methodological study for the development of visiting nurses' professional competency was conducted through the review of literature and construction of a conceptual framework for the development of professional competence. After reviewing the content validity of each question and confirming the items of the preliminary tool, the construct validity of the tool was verified through exploratory factor analysis and internal reliability was confirmed. Results: After constructing 5 factors relating to the visiting nurse's professional competence, 25 items were developed, based on verification of content validity by experts. The results of the exploratory factor analysis showed that the professional competence of the visiting nurse was influenced by factors such as "health assessment and screening," "health teaching and counseling," "interprofessional communication", "program planning and implementation", and "Professional development". These five factors accounted for 76.38% of the professional competencies of the visiting nurse. Conclusion: The professional competence of the visiting nurse is consistent with the aim of the visiting nursing project. Also our results will contribute to baseline data used to evaluate the quality of work of the visiting nurse.

  • This work presents a method for the determination of the safety factor of a slope based on the theory of the calculus of variations. The method allows for the determination of the critical sliding line (The one giving the minimum safety factor) without the necessity of guessing about its shape, which leads to a considerable economy of time and effort. Furthermore it gives the actual safety factor of the slape and consequently a more complete knowledge of the safety of the slope is obtained.

  • This study aimed to develop a measure of professional identity for Korean dental hygienists and to analyze the factors and characteristics of professional identity of these dental hygienists. In this study, 890 dental hygienists completed a self-administered survey. The final analysis was conducted with a total of 880 responses, excluding 10 questionnaires with unreliable responses and partial responses. A systematic literature review was conducted to establish the definition of professional identity, while content validity, exploratory factor, confirmatory factor, and reliability analysis were conducted to establish the constructive factors. Descriptive statistics, independent sample t-test, and one-way ANOVA were used to identify the level of each factor. Authors conceptualized the professional identity for Korean dental hygienists and item generation, item reduction, and questionnaire formatting. The developed measure of professional identity for dental hygienists consisted of five factors, with 15 items. "Sense of calling," "need for academic capacity building," "performance of delegated authority," "compliance of code of ethics," and "usage of professional organizations" were the constituent factors. Based on these factors, the level of professional identity was the highest in the "performance of delegated authority" and lowest in the "usage of professional organizations." These finding indicated that dental hygienists with higher education levels have higher professional identity levels. The dental hygienists working at the general/university hospital had the highest level of professional identity. Thus, further research is needed to establish a model that consists of factors affecting and influencing the professional identity of dental hygienists.

  • The association between apolipoprotein E (apo E) gene polymorphism and ischemic cerebrovascular disease (ICVD) has been controversial. These controversies may be due to inaccurate classification of patients and ethnic differences. We investigated the association between apo E genotypes and ICVD patients by case-control study in a Korean population. The association between apo E polymorphism and ICVD was examined in 121 patients with ICVD and 132 controls without ICVD. The E3/E4 phenotype was more frequent in control subjects (23.8%) than in patients (13.0%) (p<0.05). The E2/E3 phenotype was more frequent in patients (14.8%) than in control subjects (10.8%), but the difference was not statistically significant (p>0.05). These results suggest that the E4 allele may be a protective factor against early vascular morbidity, and the E2 allele may be a risk factor for cerebrovascular morbidity.
