  • The aim of this study was to test the effect of consultant's problem-solving ability on consulting services. A questionnaire was conducted for the staff of companies that were consulted, the research models and hypotheses were tested by structural equation. As a result of this study, the moderating effect of the consultant 's problem-solving ability and the fit of the research model were confirmed. In this study, defining the problem solving ability of the consultant as an major variable was a new attempt on the research of the consultant's competence. We expect that this study will promote various research on consultant's problem-solving ability and encourage consultants to re-recognize their problem-solving ability. We will conduct research to develop a a tool for measuring the problem-solving ability of consultants recognized as the limitation of this study.

  • This study examined the relationship between the critical thinking disposition and problem solving ability as well as the influencing factors the problem solving ability in nursing students. The data was collected from 422 nursing students of 4 colleges and analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. The mean score of the critical thinking disposition was $3.42{\pm}0.42$ and the problem solving ability was $3.84{\pm}0.50$. A significant positive correlation was observed between the critical thinking disposition and problem solving ability. Multiple regression analysis showed that the predictors of the problem solving ability were the critical thinking disposition and interpersonal relationship. These findings suggest that there is a need to increase the critical thinking disposition and problem solving ability in nursing students. These results should be reflected in an evaluation and development of the curriculum and learning method.

  • This paper deals with the effects of teamwork competence on problem solving ability through the mediating effect of creative personality for the engineering students. For this purpose, a regression-based statistical mediation analysis has been performed for a simple mediation model in which teamwork competence and problem solving ability were treated as independent and dependent variables respectively, and creative personality was included as a mediation variable. The analysis results showed that the teamwork competence has direct effect on the problem solving ability as well as indirect effect through the creative personality. This result implies that the problem solving ability can be improved directly by improving the teamwork competence, and moreover, it can be further improved indirectly or through the mediation effect by improving the creative personality. Thus, in order to develop excellent problem solving ability, it is necessary to form team members in a balanced way between teamwork competence and creative personality in the team-based learning.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a teaching strategy focused on problem solving process and explore its effects on science creative problem solving ability, science process skills, science academic achievements and scientific attitudes of students after applying it. Teaching strategy focused on problem solving process employed brainstorming and PMI thinking strategies. The participants were the third grade students of both an experimental class(26 students) and a comparative class(25 students) at the S elementary school located in Goyang-City, Kyonggi Province. The developed strategy was applied to the experimental class for 9 periods of 'Separation of mixture' unit. The results of the tests on the science creative problem solving ability, the science process skills, scientific achievement and scientific attitude were statistically higher in the experimental class.

  • Problem solving by programming has a lot of influence on computational thinking improvement. Programming learning has been self-directed based on the individual's thoughts and principles. However, the revised informatics curriculum in 2015 puts importance on collaborative learning. Collaborative learning emphasizes results differently from cooperative learning, which emphasizes problem-solving processes. And cooperative learning leads to structured learning, such as role sharing and activity stages, within a small group, while collaborative learning leads to unstructured learning. Therefore, it is becoming more in collaborative learning that peer interaction can be affected by learners' cognitive style. In this paper, we propose the effect of cognitive style on problem solving ability in collaborative learning for problem solving by programming. As a result, collaborative learning was effective in improving problem solving ability and there was no significant difference in cognitive style.

  • This study is to evaluate the effect of roleplaying-centered STS program on the science-related attitude, the academic achievement, and the problem solving ability in "Environment" unit of high school Science. 90 students in grade 10 were divided into two groups, the experimental group applied the roleplaying-centered STS program and the control group applied the traditional lecture-centered class. The pretest was implemented to measure the science-related attitude, and the posttest was implemented to measure the science-related attitude, the academic achievement, and problem solving ability. The collected data were analyzed by ANCOVA and Correlation Analysis with SPSS program. The results are as follows: First, the experimental group was not significantly different from the control group in the science-related attitude and in the academic achievement(p>.05). Second, the experimental group significantly showed much better problem solving ability than the control group(p<.05). Third, a significant correlation was recognized between the academic achievement and the problem solving ability(p<.01).

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships among affective characteristics, mathematical problem-solving abilities, and reasoning abilities of the 6th graders for mathematics, and to analyze whether the relationships have any differences according to the regions, which the subjects live. The results are as follows: First, self-awareness is the most important factor which is related mathematical problem-solving abilities and reasoning abilities, and learning habit and deductive reasoning ability have the most strong relationships. Second, for the relationships between problem-solving abilities and reasoning abilities, inductive reasoning ability is more related to problem-solving ability than deductive reasoning ability Third, for the regions, there is a significant difference between mathematical abilities and deductive reasoning abilities of the subjects.

  • The main purpose of this study was to examine the learning abilities of college electrical students, especially self-regulated learning abilities and problem solving ability. In addition, this study was to explore the effects of self-regulated learning abilities and problem solving ability of the college students on academic achievement. For this purpose, a total of 58 college freshmen was chosen to conduct a survey. The results of this study showed that self-regulated learning abilities and problem solving ability significantly influenced on the college engineering students' academic achievement. Based on these study results, the above variables investigated in this study should sufficiently considered in the design and development of the college engineering courses that enable students to become self-regulated learners and improve their academic achievement.

  • This study investigated the relationships between verbal behaviors and chemistry problem solving ability in cooperative learning. Based on the previous chemistry achievement. 11th-graders were assigned heterogeneously into three-membered groups. Small cooperative group problem solving processes in using 4 stage-problem solving strategy were audio/video taped. Students' chemistry problem solving ability was then measured by a problem solving strategy performance test. Their verbal behaviors were classified into giving information, receiving information, asking questions, and disagreeing. These were further coded into 16 subcategories. Providing, a subcategory of giving information, was the most frequent behavior. In studying partial correlation between verbal behaviors and problem solving ability, 7 categories were found to have significantly positive relationships. Providing showed the highest correlation with the problem solving ability as reported previously. Moreover, this study also revealed significant correlations in the categories of clarifying provided, correcting, justifying, and clarifying. In the case of low-ability students, the verbal behaviors of giving or receiving information were strongly correlated with problem solving ability. However, these verbal behaviors did not enhance the problem solving ability of high- and medium-ability students.
