  • A theoretical procedure to estimate spectral displacement of a hysteretic oscillator with bilinear stiffness excited by band-limited excitation is presented. The stochastic method of ground-motion simulation is combined with the random vibration theory to compute linear and nonlinear structural response. The response is obtained by computing the root-mean-square oscillator response using dissipation energy balancing by integrating over all energy levels of system weighting with the stationary probability density of the energy. The results are presented in a convenient form, and the accuracy of the procedure is assessed by comparison with results obtained with the time-domain method using the recorded data. The model shows little or no bias at the structural period of engineering interest.

  • The operation and management of a plant require proper accounting for the constraints coming from reliability requirements as well as from budget and resource considerations. Most of the mathematical methods to decide the inspection time interval for plant maintenance by reliability theory are too complicated to be solved. Moreover, the mathematical and theoretical models are not usually cases in the practical applications. In order to overcome these problems, we propose a new the decision-making method of optimal inspection interval to minimize the maintenance cost by reliability theory and genetic algorithm (GA). The most merit of the proposed method is to decide the inspection interval for a plant machine of which failure rate $\lambda$(t) conforms to any probability distribution. Therefore, this method is more practical. The efficiency of the proposed method is verified by comparing the results obtained by GA-based method with the inspection model haying regular time interval.

  • Methods for risk engineering is a bundle of engineering tools including fundamental concepts and approaches of soft computing with application to real issues of risk management. In this talk fundamental concepts and soft computing approaches of risk engineering will be introduced. As the term of risk implies both advantageous and hazardous uncertainty in its origins, a fundamental theory to describe uncertainties is introduced that includes traditional probability and statistical models, fuzzy systems, as well as less popular modal logic. In particular, modal logic capabilities to express various kinds of uncertainties are emphasized and relations with rough sets and evidence theory are described. Another topic is data mining related to problems in risk management. Some risk mining techniques including fuzzy clustering are introduced and a recently developed algorithm is overviewed. A numerical example is shown.

  • When designing a test set, we need to consider constraints on items that are deemed important by item developers or test specialists. The constraints are essentially on the components of the test domain or abilities relevant to a given test set. And so if the test domain could be represented in a more refined form, test construction would be made in a more efficient way. We assume that relationships among task abilities are representable by a causal model and that the item response theory (IRT) is not fully available for them. In such a case we can not apply traditional item selection methods that are based on the IRT. In this paper, we use entropy as an uncertainty measure for making inferences on task abilities and developed an optimal item selection algorithm which reduces most the entropy of task abilities when items are selected from an item pool.

  • Helical gear system is widely used to transmit heavy duty power with harmonies and silences between parallel shafts. This paper predicts a life with Weibull distribution and estimates a reliability based on recycle principle of helical gear systems. 2-parameter Weibull distribution is generally adopted to estimate the mechanical life and the reliability of most gear systems, because this Weibull distribution is proper to explain a characteristics or a life of parts of gear systems with linearity of probability density data on weibull data sheet. For a high reliability, this paper estimates a number of overhaul times and a number of needed substitutes (exchange attachment,1 or parts) with following renewal theory, One is make an exchange of whole module include failure attachments/parts and second estimating method is only exchange of a failure attachments / parts.

  • Based on the recent developments of the reliability-based structural analysis and design as well as the extending knowledge on the probabiliistic characteristics of load and resistances, the probability based design criteria have been successfully developed for many standards. Since the probabilistic characteristics depend highly on the local load and resistances, it is recognized to develop the design criterion compatible with domestic requirements. The existing optimum design methods, which are generally based on the structural theory and certain engineering experience, do not realistically consider the uncertainties of load and resistances and the basic reliability concepts. This study is directed to propose a optimum design based Expected Total Cost Minimization on P.S.C Box Girder Bridge system which could possibly replace optimum design based traditional provisions of the current code, based on the Neldel-Mead Method reliability theory.

  • This paper proposes a novel channel assignment scheme that is based on finite projective plane (FPP) theory. The proposed scheme involves using a Markov chain model to allocate N channels to N users through intermixed channel group arrangements, particularly when channel resources are idle because of inefficient use. The intermixed FPP-based channel group arrangements successfully related Markov chain modeling to punch through ratio formulations proposed in this study, ensuring fair resource use among users. The simulation results for the proposed FPP scheme clearly revealed that the defined throughput increased, particularly under light traffic load conditions. Nevertheless, if the proposed scheme is combined with successive interference cancellation techniques, considerably higher throughput is predicted, even under heavy traffic load conditions.

  • Cooperative transmission protocols are always designed to achieve the largest diversity gain and the network capacity simultaneously. The concept of diversity-multiplexing tradeoff (DMT) in multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems has been extended to this field. However, DMT constrains a better understanding of the asymptotic interplay between transmission rate, outage probability (OP) and signal-to-noise ratio. Another formulation called the throughput-reliability tradeoff (TRT) was then proposed to avoid such a limitation. By this new rule, Azarian and Gamal well elucidated the asymptotic trends exhibited by the OP curves in block-fading MIMO channels. Meanwhile they doubted whether the new rule can be used in more general channels and protocols. In this paper, we will prove that it does hold true in decode-and-forward cooperative protocols. We deduce the theoretic OP curves predicted by TRT and demonstrate by simulations that the OP curves will asymptotically overlap with the theoretic curves predicted by TRT.

  • This paper describes a electrical tree simulation by fractal theory. Tree patterns produced by computer simulation with random numbers were studied from the point of view of fractal dimension. Tree patterns have a variety of shapes such as branch-like, bush-like, and quasi-bush-like trees. The patterns are determined by origins and probability ratio. The fractal dimensions have been measured a function of discharge number.

  • This paper is shown new method for durability assesment and design have been noticed to be very valuable has been successfully applied to predict concrete structures. This paper provides that a new approach for predicting the corrosion durability of reinforced concrete structures exposed to chloride attack. In this method, the prediction can be updated successive1y by the Bayesian theory when additional data are available. The stochastic properties of model parameters are explicitly taken into account into the model the probability of the durability limit is determined from the samples obtained from the Latin hypercube sampling technique. The new method may be very useful in designing important concrete structures and help to predict the remaining service life of existing concrete structures under chloride attack environments.
