In order to guarantee the process safety and prevent accidents, the deviations from normal operating conditions should be monitored and their root causes have to be identified as soon as possible. The statistical theories-based method among various fault diagnosis methods has been gaining popularity, due to simplicity and quickness. However, according to fault magnitudes, the scalar value generated by statistical methods can be changed and this point can lead to produce wrong information. To solve this difficulty, this work employs PCA (Principal Component Analysis) based method with qualitative information. In the case study of our previous study, the number of assumed faults is much smaller than that of process variables. In the case study of this study, the number of predefined faults is 19, while that of process variables is 6. It means that a fault diagnosis becomes more difficult and it is really hard to isolate a single fault with a small number of variables. The PCA model is constructed under normal operation data in order to get a loading vector and the data set of assumed faulty conditions is applied with PCA model. The significant changes on PC (Principal Components) axes are monitored with CUSUM (Cumulative Sum Control Chart) and recorded to make the information, which can be used to identify the types of fault.
The use of a petaloid design for the bottom of carbonated poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET) bottles is widely spread. This study investigated the causes of bottom cracks. The tensile yield stress variations of PET according to the crystallinity and stretch ratio were examined, then the stretch ratio and strength in the bottom area of a blown bottle were analyzed. A crack test was also performed to observe the cracking phenomena. The distribution of the effective stress and maximum principal stress were both examined using computer simulation to seek the influence of the bottom design on crack. It was concluded that the bottom cracks occurred because of inadequate material strength due to the insufficient stretching of PET, plus the coarse design of a petaloid bottom. The stretch ratio at the bottom during bottle blowing should be higher than the strain hardening point of PET to produce enhanced mechanical strength. The cracks in the bottom of the PET bottles occurred through crazing below the yield stress. The maximum principal stress was higher in the valleys of the petaloid bottom than in the rest bottom area, and the maximum principal stress had a strong effect on the cracks.

Principal component analysis(PCA) is an essential technique for data compression and feature extraction, and has been widely used in statistical data analysis, communication theory, pattern recognition, and image processing. Oja(1992) found that a linear neuron with constrained Hebbian learning rule can extract the principal component by using stochastic gradient ascent method. In practice real data often contain some outliers. These outliers will significantly deteriorate the performances of the PCA algorithms. In order to make PCA robust, Xu & Yuille(1995) applied statistical physics to the problem of robust principal component analysis(RPCA). Devlin et.al(1981) obtained principal components by using techniques such as M-estimation. The propose of this paper is to investigate from the statistical point of view how Xu & Yuille's(1995) RPCA works under the same simulation condition as in Devlin et.al(1981).
We give alternative proof of the existence theorem for certain elliptic systems describing competing interactions with nonlinear di usion. The existence of positive solution depends on the sign of the principal eigenvalue of suitable operators of Schr$\ddot{o}$dinger type. If the sign of such operators are both positive, then system has a positive solution. The main tool employed is the fixed point index of compact operator on positive cones.
General expressions for solid state NMR lines are described for transitions under static, magic angle spinning, and variable angle spinning conditions in the case where the principal axis system for the anisotropic chemical shift tensor is noncoincident with that of the quadrupole coupling tensor. It is demonstrated that solid state NMR powder pattern simulation program VMAS based on the conventional grid point method of integrating over the Euler angle space is fast enough in comparison with the POWDER simulation package and Gauss-point method.
The object of this paper is to establish a unique common fixed point theorem through weak compatibility for a sequence of self-maps satisfying a generalized contractive condition in a generalized Menger space. It improves and generalizes the result of Milovanovic-Arandelovic [2], Vasuki [10] and Sehgal and Bharucha-Reid [8]. All the results presented in this paper are new.
A direct authentication from gray-scale image, instead of the conventional multi-step preprocessing, is proposed using Gabor filter-based features from the gray-scale fingerprint around core point. The core point is located as a reference point for the translation invariant matching. And its principal symmetry axis is detected for the rotation invariant matching from its neighboring region centered at the core point. And then fingerprint is divided into non-overlapping blocks with respect to the core point and features are directly extracted form the blocked gray level fingerprint using Gabor filter. The proposed fingerprint authentication is based on the Euclidean distance between the corresponding Gabor features of the input and the template fingerprints. Experiments are conducted on 300${\times}$300 fingerprints obtained from a CMOS sensor with 500 dpi resolution, and the proposed method could lower the False Reject Rate(FRR) to 18.2% under False Acceptance Rate(FAR) of 0%.

In this paper, a method of constructing a rectangular net from unorganized point cloud data is presented. In the method an implicit surface that fits the given point data is generated by using principal component analysis(PCA) and adaptive domain decomposition method(ADDM). Then a complete and quality rectangular net can be obtained by extracting voxel data from the implicit surface and projecting exterior faces of extracted voxels onto the implicit surface. The main advantage of the proposed method is that a quality rectangular net can be extracted from randomly scattered 3D points only without any further information. Furthermore the results of this works can be used to obtain many useful information including a slicing data, a solid STL model and a NURBS surface model in many areas involved in treatment of large amount of point data by proper processing of implicit surface and rectangular net generated previously.
We show that a compact embedded hypersurface with constant ratio of mean curvature functions in a convex cone $C{\subset}\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ is part of a hypersphere if it has a point where all the principal curvatures are positive and if it is perpendicular to ${\partial}C$.

Photoelasticity is a useful technique for obtaining the differences and directions of principal stresses in a model. In conventional photoelasticity, the photoelastic parameters are measured manually point by point. Identifying and measuring photoelastic data is time-consuming and requires skill. The fringe phase shifting method was recently developed and has been found to be convenient for measuring and analyzing fringe data in photo-mechanics. This paper presents an experimental study on the stress distribution along a horizontal line that passes the central point of a rhombus plate made of Photoflex (i.e., type of urethane rubber). The isoclinic fringe and/or principal stress direction is constant on this horizontal line, so a four-bucket phase shifting method can be applied. The method requires four photoelastic fringes that are obtained from a circular polariscope by rotating the analyzer at $0^{\circ}C$, $45^{\circ}C$, $90^{\circ}C$ and $135^{\circ}C$. Experimental measurements using the method were quantitatively compared with the results from FEM analysis; the results from the two methods showed comparable agreement.
