In the present study, we proposed a new subspace scanning algorithm to enhance the spatial resolution of electroencephalography (EEG) and magnetoencephalography(MEG) source localization. Subspace scanning algorithms, represented by the multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm and the first principal vector (FINE) algorithm, have been widely used to localize asynchronous multiple dipolar sources in human cerebral cortex. The conventional MUSIC algorithm used principal component analysis (PCA) to extract the noise vector subspace, thereby having difficulty in discriminating two or more closely-spaced cortical sources. The FINE algorithm addressed the problem by using only a part of the noise vector subspace, but there was no golden rule to determine the number of noise vectors. In the present work, we estimated a non-orthogonal signal vector set using independent component analysis (ICA) instead of using PCA and performed the source scanning process in the signal vector subspace, not in the noise vector subspace. Realistic 2D and 3D computer simulations, which compared the spatial resolutions of various algorithms under different noise levels, showed that the proposed ICA-MUSIC algorithm has the highest spatial resolution, suggesting that it can be a useful tool for practical EEG/MEG source localization.
For the long-term structural health monitoring of civil structures, the effect of ambient temperature variation has been regarded as one of the critical issues. In this study, a principal component analysis (PCA)-based algorithm is proposed to filter out temperature effects on electromechanical impedance (EMI) monitoring of prestressed tendon anchorages. Firstly, the EMI monitoring via a piezoelectric interface device is described for prestress-loss detection in the tendon anchorage system. Secondly, the PCA-based temperature filtering algorithm tailored to the EMI monitoring of the prestressed tendon anchorage is outlined. The proposed algorithm utilizes the damage-sensitive features obtained from sub-ranges of the EMI data to establish the PCA-based filter model. Finally, the feasibility of the PCA-based algorithm is experimentally evaluated by distinguishing temperature changes from prestress-loss events in a prestressed concrete girder. The accuracy of the prestress-loss detection results is discussed with respect to the EMI features before and after the temperature filtering.

Principal component analysis(PCA) is a multivariate technique falling under the general title of factor analysis. The purpose of PCA is to Identify the dependence structure behind a multivariate stochastic observation In order to obtain a compact description of it. In engineering field PCA is utilized mainly (or data compression and restoration. In this paper we propose a new robust Hebbian algorithm for robust PCA. This algorithm is based on a hyperbolic tangent function due to Hampel ef al.(1989) which is known to be robust in Statistics. We do two experiments to investigate the performance of the new robust Hebbian learning algorithm for robust PCA.
In this work, a neuro-fuzzy inference system combined with the wavelet denoising, PCA (principal component analysis) and SPRT (sequential probability ratio test) methods is developed to detect the relevant sensor failure using other sensor signals. The wavelet denoising technique is applied to remove noise components in input signals into the neuro-fuzzy system The PCA is used to reduce the dimension of an input space without losing a significant amount of information. The PCA makes easy the selection of the input signals into the neuro-fuzzy system. Also, a lower dimensional input space usually reduces the time necessary to train a neuro-fuzzy system. The parameters of the neuro-fuzzy inference system which estimates the relevant sensor signal are optimized by a genetic algorithm and a least-squares algorithm. The residuals between the estimated signals and the measured signals are used to detect whether the sensors are failed or not. The SPRT is used in this failure detection algorithm. The proposed sensor-monitoring algorithm was verified through applications to the pressurizer water level and the hot-leg flowrate sensors in pressurized water reactors.
Factor analysis is a multivariate technique for describing the in-terrelationship among many variables in terms of a few underlying but unobservable random variables called factors. There are various approaches for this factor analysis. In particular, principal factor analysis is one of the most popular methods. This follows the mathematical algorithm of the principal component analysis based on the singular value decomposition. But it is known that the singular value decomposition is not resistant, i.e., it is very sensitive to small changes in the input data. In this article, using the resistant singular value decomposition of Choi and Huh (1994), we derive a resistant principal factor analysis relatively little influenced by notable observations.

In this paper, the scheme of an efficient fuzzy rule generation and fuzzy system construction using GA(genetic algorithm) and FCM(fuzzy c-means) clustering algorithm is proposed for TSK(Takagi-Sugeno-Kang) type fuzzy system. In the structure identification, input data is transformed by PCA(Principal Component Analysis) to reduce the correlation among input data components. And then, a set fuzzy rules are generated for a given criterion by FCM clustering algorithm . In the parameter identification premise parameters are optimally searched by GA. On the other hand, the consequent parameters are estimated by RLSE(Recursive Least Square Estimate) to reduce the search space. From this one can systematically obtain the valid number of fuzzy rules which shows satisfying performance for the given problem. Finally, we applied the proposed method to the Box-Jenkins data and rice taste data modeling problems and obtained a better performance than previous works.
Using the neural network model for oriented principal component analysis (OPCA), we propose a solution to the data least squares (DLS) problem, in which the error is assumed to lie in the data matrix only. In this paper, we applied this neural network model to channel equalization. Simulations show that the neural network based DLS outperforms ordinary least squares in channel equalization problems.

In this paper, we proposed the Bi-Modal Sensor Fusion Algorithm which is the emotional recognition method that be able to classify 4 emotions (Happy, Sad, Angry, Surprise) by using facial image and speech signal together. We extract the feature vectors from speech signal using acoustic feature without language feature and classify emotional pattern using Neural-Network. We also make the feature selection of mouth, eyes and eyebrows from facial image. and extracted feature vectors that apply to Principal Component Analysis(PCA) remakes low dimension feature vector. So we proposed method to fused into result value of emotion recognition by using facial image and speech.
In the present study, the objective is to detect the structural damages using the responses obtained from the sensors at the optimal location under uncertainty conditions. Reducing the error rate in damage detection process due to responses' noise is an important goal in this study. In the proposed algorithm for optimal sensor placement, the noise of responses recorded from the sensors is initially reduced using the principal component analysis. Afterward, the optimal sensor placement is obtained by the damage detection equation based sensitivity analysis. The sensors are placed on degrees of freedom corresponding to the minimum error rate in structural damage detection through this procedure. The efficiency of the proposed method is studied on a truss bridge, a space dome, a double-layer grid as well as a three-story experimental frame structure and the results are compared. Moreover, the performance of the suggested method is compared with three other algorithms of Average Driving Point Residue (ADPR), Effective Independence (EI) method, and a mass weighting version of EI. In the examples, young's modulus, density, and cross-sectional areas of the elements are considered as uncertainty parameters. Ultimately, the results have demonstrated that the presented algorithm under uncertainty conditions represents a high accuracy to obtain the optimal sensor placement in the structures.
In this paper, we propose a watermarking technique of multispectral images. In our method, the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is preliminarily applied on the multispectral image. The most principal component image is used for embedding with a watermark, which is a pseudo-random number sequence generated with a secret key. The embedding process is performed in the wavelet domain. The resulting image is then reinserted into the principal component images, and the final multispectral image containing the watermark can be produced by the inverse PCA. Experimental results are provided to illustrate the performance of the algorithm against various kinds of attacks.
