  • The objectives of the current study are first, to compare and analyze the two different teaching methods of elementary mathematics in the traditional method and in the constructivists view, and, second, thereby to reveal possible problems of the present teaching practice and to suggest some guidelines to solve those problems. The results of this research are as follows: First, longer time was spent to reach the target pont of class because the class was a little bit disturbed and noisy due to a large amount of student activities in the beginning of the class in the constructive view. Second, in the class in the constructive view, the teacher should be able to respond appropriately to the situation where the students were cognitively. And the teachers sufficient preparation for the class was found essential to have the students reach the target point by themselves through identifying children`s minds. Third, the class in the constructivists view provide the teaching environment were the teacher could evaluate each students ability accurately and study progress of the class. And fourth, finally, it was not easy for the teacher to pay attention individually to each student in the current situation of large class, The effort to have more concern for students seems to contribute to opening student`s closed minds and to forming positive attitudes toward mathematics.

  • This study was conducted with 512 students in 4 primary schools located at the inner and the outskirt of K city, Northern Kyungsang Province from November 6, 2001 to November 27, 2001(during 3 weeks). This study was a research about the difference of a bullying degree and tendency of both teasing and teased students. The purpose of the study was to help nursing teachers in charge of student consultation and treatment. The findings are as follows: First, for to whom students confess their worries, students in lower grade talked to their parents while students in higher grade talked to their close friends. The higher grader, the higher rate in solving their problems by themselves. For how many students are teased by their peers in groups, 52.0% students answered 1 or 2 students in a class. For the reasons of bully, 37.0% higher graders answered, very selfish and putting on airs after 29.6% lower graders answered, ugly and bad at speaking. Second, for perception of peer relation, 81.3% students participating in the study answered, very important. For a question whether students satisfy present relation with their friends by gender, 53.7% boys were satisfied while 34.6% girls were satisfied. Third, for difference in bullying by gender, boys mainly teased others by using words and physical power(p<0.000) while girls estranged others. When it goes to teased students, it was the case: boys were bullied physically(p<0.000) and linguistically while girls were hurt by estrangement. Having nothing direct to do with school achievement, nursing teacher should make good use of such an advantage that students tend to easily confess their worries to them and take care of psychological aspects of students in treatment. Furthermore, it needs to include contents of bully in the regular heath care education.

  • Children interest themselves in all different toys they see, before beginning to speak. The psychological reasons for children′s interest in toys have been investigated for a long time. Thus many scientists have studied on the question "what is game?", but they have not reached a consensus yet. Such contradiction may be dependent upon different points of view of the researchers about game. Besides, the view of game of a child and an adult is different too. According to an adult game is a rebirth and escape from monotony. For child it is a work. The aim of this study is to make mathematics regarding a mass of abstract concepts for the students of grade 1-3 of primary school in the concrete operations period, more attractive with the help of educational and instructional games, and to contribute to student′s developing. The capability of thinking and producing by changing abstract concepts into concrete ones.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the applicability of virtual reality simulation after experience of dental caries diagnosis for dental students before exposing to clinical pediatric practice. A pediatric patient model of a five-year-old child with primary dentition was developed and a caries model that is amenable to VR(virtual reality) diagnosis was organized and set-up. The dental student's were allowed to use the simulated model for fifteen minutes and their experiences were evaluated using a self-reported questionnaire to evaluate presence and usability of this application. Overall, virtual presence and appearance area of the simulation were highly scored. The result indicates that the VR model has no significant difference from the actual clinical caries regardless of grade of students, gender and VR experience. If the prototype is continuously advanced, its applicability in dental education will increase.

  • Problem Solving has been emphasized for recent decades, and many research case studies have been used to improve students' Problem Solving abilities. However, the gap of students' abilities can be easily shown after enrollment into school in spite of scholar's attempt to reduce students' level of differentiation. Besides, it is clear that teachers have been too readily assisting students' and not allowing them to acquire the process of Problem Solving, and this may be due to impatience. Therefore, students seem to show signs of the dependent tendency towards teachers and other materials. This tendency easily allows students' to depend on teaching resources without attempting any developmental mechanism of Problem Solving. The presupposition of this study is that every student must solve a problem without any assistance, and also this study is to provide new cognitive strategies for both teachers and students who want to solve their problems by themselves through the process of visible Problem Solving. After applying the student-based problem-solving model by this study, it was found to be effective. Therefore this will lead to the improvement of the Problem Solving and knowledge acquisition of students.

  • This study analyzed the effects of the educational contextual variables on fourth grade students' mathematics achievement in five East Asian countries(Singapore, Hong Kong Taiwan, Japan and Korea) using TIMSS 2015 data. There are four findings of this study. The first is that the common student-home-level variables that give significant influence on the mathematics achievement in all 5 countries are 'Home resources for learning' and 'Parents' educational expectations'. But 'Literacy and numeracy activities before entering a school' and 'Parents' attitude for mathematics and science' are not common variables. The second is that 'Students' interest in math learning' gave significant influence on the mathematics achievement of in all 5 countries. The third is that 'Teaching limited by student needs' does not give significant influence on the math achievement in Korea, Taiwan, and Japan but in Singapore and Hong Kong. The fourth is that 'Student economic background' gave more significant influence in Korea, Taiwan, and Japan than Singapore and Hong Kong. Suggestions to improve elementary school mathematics teaching and learning are discussed in the conclusion.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the relations among the three factors: 1) characteristics of family, 2) nutrient intake status and 3) academic achievements. The subjects in this study were 7,698 boys and girls attending primary, middle and high schools in South Korea. The questionnaire was made and distributed to the student to answer the questions about family background and food intake status. Food intake frequency method was used to examine nutrient intake status. Academic achievement results of last semester were taken from students school records. Followings are the results of the study:1. Most of the mean nutrient intakes were above the Korean recommended dietary allowances. However, calcium, iron, and vitamin A intakes were below the Korean recommended dietary allowances. Therefore, it is recommended to increase the intake of these nutrients in these students to meet the RDA.2. Total amounts of food intake were decreasing in higher grades and food intake of boys was higher than that of girls. 3. Educational period of parents and economic status of family had grades influences on student's academic achievement and nutritional status. The students with parents of higher education and higher economic status had better academic achievement and balanced nutritional status. 4. When students were divided into three groups with respect to the percentage of recommended nutrient intake, the group with nutrient intake of 75-125% of RDA achieved better academic achievement than other groups. In conclusion, educational length and economic status of parents and optimal intake of nutrients (75-125% of RDA)by students significantly affected academic achievements of the students.
