  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the statistical literacy in elementary school students when they beginning inference. Picto-graphs provide statistical information and often data-related arguments they certainly qualify as objects for interpretation, for critical evaluation, and for discussion or communication of the conclusions presented. For research, the inference from pictograph task was designed and statistical literacy standards for evaluating the student's level was presented based on prior studies. Evaluating student's statistical literacy is meaningful in that it can check their current level. To know the student's current level can help them achieve a higher level of performance. The outcomes of this research indicate that pictograph can provide a basis for rich tasks displaying not only student's counting skills but also their appreciation of variation and uncertainty in prediction. Raising statistical thinking by students is an important goal in statistical education, and the experience of informal statistical reasoning can help with formal statistical reasoning that will be learned later. Therefore, the task about the inference from a pictograph, discussions on statistical learning of elementary school children are expected to present meaningful implications for statistical education.

  • In the existing researches about the Internet and mobile phone addition for primary and secondary school students, the major addiction testing measurements are personal parameters such as obsession, self-efficacy, and self-control and environmental parameters such as parents, friends, schools, community factors, and mass media. Those researches have focused on the interaction objects between a student and him/herself, parents, friends, schools, or society. While the importance of time perspective has increased recently, there have rarely been the research that had focused on it in education arena. In this paper, we analyze how time perspective influences the Internet and mobile phone addiction levels of primary and middle school students. In order to do that, we surveyed 619 primary and middle school students and analyzed the results in this paper. And then, we renew the relative importance among existing factors for the two addictions and propose the way to prevent the two addictions.

  • One of the most important concepts in the 7th curriculum of Korea is the student-centered education. Since educational evaluation has significant influence on the whole curriculum, if we realize the importance of the student-center education on the curriculum we should establish the student-centered educational evaluation system. Educational evaluation is defined by the theory of information to permit information users to identify, to measure, to manipulate and to communicate useful educational information concerning an educational curriculum for making decisions. If we accept the above definitions, the demands of information users are significant in the light of conceptual framework of educational evaluation. The purpose of this study is to analyze the conceptual framework of educational evaluation from information users' perspectives and to investigate the qualitative characteristics which satisfy information users' need for making decisions. We also show that students aren't provided sufficient evaluation results information to decide for their study plans by analyzing an evaluation study of the 7th primary curriculum. Finally, this study suggests how to improve an evaluation system for students in mathematics.

This study is an attempt to provide basic data required for developing rice food and method of cooking it as a measure for increasing rice consumption and far this purpose survey has been conducted on primary school students in connection with their level of recognition, preference far rice food as well as their understanding and their consciousness on issues related to this topic. In terms of level of recognition of rice food majority of students which were subjected to this study stated that either they knew names of about 39 types of rice foods shown or had experience of eating them. They also stated in answers to question related to dietary habit that they prefer rice foods. Their reply on taste of rice food was plain and neat. But it was found their level of recognition on our traditional rice foods such as Ssal Dasik (rice cookies), Ssal Jinbyung (rice cakes) and Buggumi (fried rice cakes) etc. was very low. In connection with questions on their understanding of rice and consciousness of problems related to rice it was revealed that more than majority of primary school students in this research had erroneous idea on reason for the need of our effort for expanding rice consumption. Accordingly in order to expand rice consumption it is necessary to develop educational program addressing subjects of cultural and nutritional effect value of rice, effect of rice consumption upon rural economy and its application to school education concurrently with persistent study in order to diversify rice food restaurants and to improve method of cooking.

  • This study has been performed to analyze nutrition knowledge, dietary self-efficacy and eating habits of the elementary- and middle- school students (n = 342) according to student's stage of regular breakfast or exercise. Middle school students had higher nutrition knowledge than primary school students. Total dietary self-efficacy and dietary habit scores were not different by school year and gender. Nutrition knowledge, dietary self-efficacy and dietary habit scores were positively correlated each other. By the stage of regular breakfast, the pre-contemplation stage comprised 13.6%, contemplation 2.1%, preparation 15.7%, action 11.5% and maintenance stage 59.1%. By the stage of regular exercise, the pre-contemplation stage comprised 20.9%, contemplation 7.3%, preparation 45.6%, action 9.8% and maintenance stage 16.4%. According to the stage of change, movement from the pre-contemplation and contemplation to upper stage increased the dietary self-efficacy score. Dietary habit score increased significantly across the five stages of changes. The results of this study indicate differences in stages of changes in breakfast intake and regular exercise and indicate the need for taking these phases of change into account in nutrition education.
