The Extent of Ordinary Classrooms Teachers' Knowledge and Perception of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

  • The present study aimed to investigate the extent to which ordinary classrooms teachers are informed are familiar with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder 'ADHD'. The researcher adopted the descriptive approach. The sample of the study consisted of (89) male and female teachers who teach students from grade (1) to grade (6) at public primary schools in Northern Mazar Directorate of Education in Jordan. A questionnaire was employed as the primary tool for collecting the data. The findings of the current study indicated an average level of knowledge of ordinary classroom teachers about ADHD. The findings also indicated that there were no statistically significant differences in the extent of ordinary classroom teachers' knowledge of ADHD due to the variables (gender, qualification, professional experience, grade level being taught).

A Phenomenological Study on the Restoration Experience for Suicide Ideation of Korean Elders (한국 노인의 자살생각 극복경험)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand and analyze the experience of restoration among Korean elders with suicide ideation. Methods: A phenomenological research method guided data collection and analysis. A total of five elders having had suicide ideation participated. Data were collected through individual in-depth interviews. All interviews were audio taped and transcribed verbatim. Coding was used to establish different concepts and categories. Results: As the results of analysis, the following three constituents have been found as a retrospective focus based on the primary suicide ideation: expanding their view and facing reality, reconstructing their view about life and death as well as self. Conclusion: The results of this study may contribute to health professionals working at various crisis settings to understand Korean elders with suicide ideation.

Weightlessness in Water : Its Unexpected Mechanical Effects on Freestyle Swimming

  • When our body is immersed in water, we experience weightlessness. The degree of weightlessness that we experience varies depending on the proportion of the body immersed in water, being governed by the relationship between the weight of body and the buoyant force acting on the body. Human body during the performance of swimming in no exception to these influences. Swimmers body is subject to a time and position dependent force system. Even the magnitude of the buoyant force acting on the swimmers body at every given instant and the corresponding position of the CB change continuously. The findings of this study support the following conclusions. The buoyancy torque was the primary source of bodyroll exhibited by front crawl swimmers performing at distance pace, accounting for 88 % of the bodyroll. Faster swimmers used buoyancy more effectively to generate bodyroll, partially supporting the postulation that an effective use of buoyancy for bodyroll may reduce the generated hydrodynamic forces to be wasted in non-propulsive directions and maximize forward propulsion.

Surgical experience in Criss-Cross heart: report of 4 cases (Criss-Cross heart 를 동반한 심장기형의 수술 치험 4례 보)

  • The criss-cross, a term first used by Anderson and Ando , is a rare cardiac malformation in which the systemic and pulmonary blood streams cross at the atrioventricular level, without mixing. We have surgically experienced four cases of crossed atrioventricular connection, three concordant and one discordant, at Seoul National University Hospital from July 1982 to March 1984. The atrial situs, the atrioventriculoarterial connection, the spatial position of the ventricles, and associated cardiac anomalies were analyzed. We have performed right Blalock-Taussig shunt for case 1, modified Fontan operation for case 2, patch closure of VSD for case 3, and septation of common ventricle with primary closure of ASD for case 4. The relatively good postoperative results in these patients were gratifying and suggest that cardiac anomalies associated with this rare malformation can be successfully repaired without further risk. To our knowledge, this is the first report of surgical experience for criss-cross heart in the Korean literature.

A Phenomenological Study on the Experience of Hurt and Forgiveness of Clinical Nurses in Korea after Loss of Employment (이직을 고려해 본 임상간호사의 상처와 용서 경험)

Methods: A phenomenological research method guided data collection and analysis. The subjects were a total of 5 nurses who had experienced hurt and forgiveness. Data was collected through individual in-depth interviews. All interviews were audio taped and transcribed verbatim. Coding was used to establish different concepts and categories. Results: The following three common constituents have been found as a retrospective focus based on the primary hurt related to the clinical situation; recognizing their personal values, obtaining their view about forgiveness, as well as their view of self. Conclusion: The results of this study may contribute to health professionals working in various clinical settings to understand Korean nurses with hurt and forgiveness experiences.

A Perspective on Teaching Mathematics in the School Classroom

  • WHAT we teach, and HOW students experience it, are the primary factors that shape students' understanding and beliefs of what mathematics is all about. Further, students pick up their sense of mathematics from their experience with it. We have seen the results of the approach to "break the subject into pieces and make students master it bit by bit. As an alternative, we strive to create a teaching environment in which students are DOING mathematics and thereby engender selected aspects of "mathematical culture" in the classroom. The vehicle for doing this is the so-called Japanese Open-ended approach to teaching mathematics. We will discuss three aspects of the open-ended approach - process open, end product open, formulating problems open - and the associated approach to assessing learning.

ENHANCING THE TEACHING AOF STRONOMY IN SCHOOLS THROUGH WORKSHOPS FOR TEACHERS

  • The Malaysian Space Agency (ANGKASA), with cooperation of the Ministry of Education of Malaysia, has organized the Astronomy Workshop for Primary and Secondary School Teachers since 2008 at the National Planetarium. The workshop was organized to provide science teachers with basic knowledge of astronomy in accordance with the school syllabus, with the hope that they can acquire sufficient knowledge in the field of astronomy to enhance their teaching activities in school. In this workshop, teachers will be introduced to night sky simulations in our space theater, a planetarium show, daytime and night time observation activities, hands on activities, and visits to the planetarium's observatory and exhibition gallery. Besides this, in the workshop they will share teaching experience with planetarium staff. Educational materials are also distributed to all the teachers as reference for their teaching. In this paper presentation, we would like to show how the National Planetarium plays an important role to help teachers in teaching astronomy in schools.

Training System of Environment Education Teacher : Problem and Prospect (환경교육 담당자 양성 체제의 개선)

  • This attempts to find out training system of environment education teacher in Korea. The results are summarized as follows. The primary and secondary school have focused on environment education and the environment course was designated as a subject, but only 12% of the 2741 middle school chose the environment subject in 1998. The environment education course is not popular among students. The environment education is an interdisciplinary subject, which is composed of natural science, social studies, earth science, and medical science, that is why the subject is so unsystematic and complicated that appropriate teaching methods and contents for school classes are not able to be developed. Moreover, material and manuals in environment education for students and teachers are limited. While the contents of environment education is composed of field experience learning and experiment learning, but lecture-centered instruction is emphasized in school because of materials, time and experts. Over 300 environmental education teachers are annually produced, but the ratio of employment low. is, Therefore, a retraining program for environment education teacher needs to be developed.

Restoration Experiences of Rural Healing Tourism (농촌 치유관광에서의 회복경험)

  • The healing tourism has been growing rapidly in Korea. This study examines the restoration experience of rural healing tourism by qualitative method. The restoration environment is based on nature, and rural areas are the representative places for nature-based tourism. Therefore, this study aims to explore the meaning of restoration experiences of rural healing tourism. An in-depth interview process was used as the primary qualitative research method for this study. Nine interviews were given and from a thematic analysis of the data, six themes of restoration environments were emerged. The restoration environment of the rural settings are as follows; being away, fascination, extent, compatibility, healing nature, and leisure activity. Attention restoration theory provides a model that helps explain the results of this study. The results of this study can be useful for establishing effective marketing strategies through understanding the restoration environment in rural healing tourism.
