In this paper, the mooring system for a floating wave energy farm is designed based on a two-dimensional analysis. The mooring system uses an anchorless mooring line linking two floaters in a floating wave energy farm. The basic equation to determine the length of the mooring line between the two floaters is proposed. The other properties such as the diameter and pretension are taken from the mooring line for a single floater. The dynamic behavior and safety of the designed mooring system under extreme ocean conditions are analyzed with the commercial software Orcaflex. A numerical study shows the stability and high safety in tension of the designed mooring lines for a floating wave energy farm. The proposed anchorless mooring system for a floating wave energy farm results in a considerable reduction in the length of the mooring line, contributing to the economics of a floating wave energy farm.
The random vibration of saddle membrane structures under wind load is studied theoretically and experimentally. First, the nonlinear random vibration differential equations of saddle membrane structures under wind loads are established based on von Karman's large deflection theory, thin shell theory and potential flow theory. The probabilistic density function (PDF) and its corresponding statistical parameters of the displacement response of membrane structure are obtained by using the diffusion process theory and the Fokker Planck Kolmogorov equation method (FPK) to solve the equation. Furthermore, a wind tunnel test is carried out to obtain the displacement time history data of the test model under wind load, and the statistical characteristics of the displacement time history of the prototype model are obtained by similarity theory and probability statistics method. Finally, the rationality of the theoretical model is verified by comparing the experimental model with the theoretical model. The results show that the theoretical model agrees with the experimental model, and the random vibration response can be effectively reduced by increasing the initial pretension force and the rise-span ratio within a certain range. The research methods can provide a theoretical reference for the random vibration of the membrane structure, and also be the foundation of structural reliability of membrane structure based on wind-induced response.
CFRP(carbon fiber reinforced polymer) tendons can be used as an alternative to solve the corrosion problem of steel tendons. Material properties of CFRP tendons such as bond strength, transfer length, and development length should be determined in order to apply to concrete structures. First of all, in case of application for pretension concrete members with CFRP tendons, transfer length is an important factor. A total of 9 beams have been cast to determine transfer length and development length of domestic CFRP tendon in this paper. Test results revealed that transfer length of the prestressing 25% and 50% are 34D, 55D respectively. Also, transfer length has increased as the prestressing force has increased. A change was observed in transfer length of developed CFRP tendon after 9 weeks. ${\alpha}_t$ of developed CFRP tendon was 2.3 similar to the steel strand.
The tension leg platform (TLP) is one of the compliant structures which are generally used for deep water oil exploration. With respect to the horizontal degrees of freedom, it behaves like a floating structure moored by vertical tethers which are pretension due to the excess buoyancy of the platform, whereas with respect to the vertical degrees of freedom, it is stiff and resembles a fixed structure and is not allowed to float freely. In the current study, a numerical study for square TLP using modified Morison equation was carried out in the time domain with water particle kinematics using Airy's linear wave theory to investigate the effect of changing the tether tension force on the stiffness matrix of TLP's, the dynamic behavior of TLP's; and on the fatigue stresses in the cables. The effect was investigated for different parameters of the hydrodynamic forces such as wave periods, and wave heights. The numerical study takes into consideration the effect of coupling between various degrees of freedom. The stiffness of the TLP was derived from a combination of hydrostatic restoring forces and restoring forces due to cables. Nonlinear equation was solved using Newmark's beta integration method. Only uni-directional waves in the surge direction was considered in the analysis. It was found that for short wave periods (i.e., 10 sec.), the surge response consisted of small amplitude oscillations about a displaced position that is significantly dependent on tether tension force, wave height; whereas for longer wave periods, the surge response showed high amplitude oscillations that is significantly dependent on wave height, and that special attention should be given to tethers fatigue because of their high tensile static and dynamic stress.

In the present study, anchor type nail with PC-strand which can add up the pre-stress at the nailing to increase the resistance and shear stress in the whole ground has been investigated. Load-displacement and wall displacement have been analyzed by experimental model and numerical analysis of anchor type nail, nailing, and non-nailing to examine the behavior of anchor type nail. From the experimental results, it was found that horizontal displacement is considerably decreased according to increasing the load in case of anchor type nail added pre-tension. Especially, it was observed that resistance of displacement at the upper wall is increased. The results of numerical analysis show the same results of experimental results.

In this paper, an experimental program has been conducted to investigate transfer length in high strength concrete members pretensioned through a seven-wire strand with FBG sensors. To measure transfer length, five members were fabricated, which had a length of 3 m and a cross-section of $150{\times}150mm$. It was measured that the concrete compressive strength was 58MPa at pretensioning. Test results indicated that more precise and reliable measurement on the transfer length was attained with FBG sensors than conventional gauges attached on concrete surface. Through comparing the measured transfer length and predictions, applicability of several transfer length models in literature was investigated. This paper can be useful for relevant research field such as investigation on the bond mechanism of a seven-wire strand in concrete members.

The use of diverse methods for the retaining system has been continuously increased in order to maintain the stability during excavation. However, ground anchor system occasionally may have the restriction in urban excavation sites nearby the existing structures because of space limitation. In this case, soil nailing system with relatively short length of nails could be efficiently useful as an alternative method. The general soil nailing support system, however, may result in excessive deformations particularly in excavating the zone of weak soils or nearby the existing structures. Therefore, applying the pretension force to the soil nails then could play important roles to reduce deformations mainly in an upper part of the nailed-soil excavation system as well as to improve the local slope stability. In this study, a newly modified soil nailing technology named as the PSN(Pretention Soil Nailing) is developed to reduce both facing displacements and ground surface settlements during top-down excavation process as well as to increase the global slope stability. Up to now, the PSN system has been investigated mainly focusing on an establishment of the design procedure. In the present study, the field tests including pull-out tests were fulfilled to investigate the behavior of characteristics for PSN system. All results of tests were also analyzed to provide a fundamental and efficient design.

FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer) tendons can be used as an alternative to solve the corrosion problem of steel tendons. Material properties of FRP tendons-bond strength, transfer length, development length-must be determined in order to apply to concrete structures. First of all, in case of application for pretension concrete members with CFRP tendons, transfer length is an important characteristic. The bond of the material characteristics should be demanded clearly to apply to PSC structures prestressed with FRP tendons. This paper investigated on the bond characteristics of FRP reinforcements with various surface-type. To determine the bond characteristics of FRP materials used in place of steel reinforcement or prestressing tendon in concrete, pull-out testing suggested by CAN/CSA S806-02 was performed. A total of 40 specimens were made of concrete cube with steel strands, deformed steel bar and 6 different surface shape FRP materials like carbon or E-glass. Results of the bonding tests presented that each specimen showed various behaviors as the bond stress-slip curve and compared with the bond characteristic of CFRP tendon developed in Korea.
The paper presents the details and results of an experimental study on bolted end-plate joints of industrial type steel building frames. The investigated joints are commonly used in Lindab-Astron industrial buildings and are optimized for manufacturing, erection and durability. The aim of the research was to provide an experimental background for the design model development by studying load-bearing capacity of joints, bolt force distribution, and end-plate deformations. Because of the special joint details, (i.e., joints with four bolts in one bolt-row and HammerHead arrangements), the Eurocode 3 standardized component model had to be improved and extended. The experimental programme included six different end-plate and bolt arrangements and covered sixteen specimens. The steel grade of test specimens was S355, the bolt diameter M20, whereas the bolt grade was 8.8 and 10.9 for the two series. The end-plate thickness varied between 12 mm and 24 mm. The specimens were investigated under pure bending conditions using a four-point-bending test arrangement. In all tests the typical displacements and the bolt force distribution were measured. The end-plate plastic deformations were measured after the tests by an automatic measuring device. The measured data were presented and evaluated by the moment-bolt-row force and moment-distance from centre of compression diagrams and by the deformed end-plate surfaces. From the results the typical failure modes and the joint behaviour were specified and presented. Furthermore the influence of the end-plate thickness and the pretension of the bolts on the behaviour of bolted joints were analysed.
This study focuses on the effect of the cutting order of prestressing strands on the strain change in the strands and on the state of stress of concrete, experimentally and numerically. In the experiment, strain of strands and of transversal reinforcement were measured for three different cutting orders during detensioning process by using flame-cutting procedure. The experimental results were compared with those obtained from the FE analysis. As a results of the experiment, it is confirmed that the cutting order of prestressing strands affected on the strain of strands as well as of transversal reinforcement. The FE analysis gave similar results to those obtained from the experiment. Therefore, the cutting order should be chosen appropriately to when the strands get detensioned.
