Thermal Conductivity and Adhesion Properties of Thermally Conductive Pressure-Sensitive Adhesives

  • The effects of particle content, size and shape on the thermal conductivity (k) and adhesion properties of thermally conductive, pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs) were investigated. The matrix resins were thermally crosslinkable, 2-ethylhexyl acrylic polyol and ultraviolet (UV)-curable, random copolymer consisting of acrylic oligomer and various acrylates. We found that k increased with increasing diameter and particle aspect ratio, and was further enhanced due to the reduction of the interfacial thermal barrier when the coupling agent, which increases the adhesion between particles and the matrix resin, was used. On the other hand, adhesion properties such as peel strength and tack of the thermally crosslinkable resin decreased sharply with increasing particle content. However, for UV curable resin, increased particle addition inhibited the decrease in adhesion properties.

The Effect of Vehicles and Pressure Sensitive Adhesives on the Percutaneous Absorption of Quercetin through the Hairless Mouse Skin

  • To investigate the feasibility of developing a new quercetin transdermal system, a preformulation study was carried out. Therefore, the effects of vehicles and pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSA) on the in vitro permeation of quercetin across dorsal hairless mouse skin were studied. Among vehicles used, propylene glycol monocaprylate (PGMC) and propylene glycol mono-laurate were found to have relatively high permeation flux from solution formulation (i.e., the permeation fluxes were 17.25$\pm$1.96 and 9.60$\pm$3.87 $\mu\textrm{g}$/$\textrm{cm}^2$/h, respectively). The release rate from PSA formulations followed a matrix-controlled diffusion model and was mainly affected by the amount of PSA and drug loaded. The overall permeation fluxes from PSA formulations were less than 0.30 $\mu\textrm{g}$/$\textrm{cm}^2$/h, which were significantly lower compared to those obtained from solution formulations. The lower permeation fluxes may be due to the decrease of solubility and diffusivity of quercetin in the PSA layer, considering the fact that the highest flux of 0.26 $\mu\textrm{g}$/$\textrm{cm}^2$/h was obtained with the addition of 0.2% butylated hydroxyanisole in PGMC-diethyl-ene glycol monoethyl ether co-solvents (80-85 : 15-20, v/v). Taken together, these observations indicate that improvement in the solubility and diffusivity of quercetin is necessary to realize fully the clinically applicable transdermal delivery system for the drug.

접착제의 구조물성과 접착특성 (Structure/Property of Adhesives and Adhesion Performance)

  • Most of the materials used in various industrial fields and also in our daily life are multi-component materials or composite materials, and it is well known that there are many cases where adhesion between the constituents within the bonded systems plays an important role. There are various types of performance evaluation tests for the bonded materials, among which tests for evaluating the bond performance under various conditions may be regarded as the most interesting ones for those engaged in work related to adhesion. I have studied on the mechanism of adhesion form the rheological standpoint with my colleagues, including some students from Korea, and I am very happy to be able to have a talk on some of our research works. In Japan, the so-called "adhesives" are usually classified into two categories;adhesives and pressure sensitive adhesives (PSA). Adhesives are the materials which solidify after bonding and are after used as the structural adhesives because the adhesive strength is comparatively strong. On the other hand, the pressure sensitive adhesives never solidify and are used as PSA tapes, labels or decals. About the adhesives, we have examined the dependence of adhesive strength(shear, tensile, peel) upon both temperature and rate of deformation, and found out some empirical rules which are applicable to most of the adhesive systems. We have also developed a simplified theory of adhesion, which is deseribed in terms of mechanical equivalent mode1 and a few failure criteria. Although some of the common rules can be accounted for according to this theory, it must be pointed out that a fracture mechanical approach ms inevitable especially in the region where the meehanical relaxation time of the adhesive is extremely large [W. W. Lim and H. Mizumachi]. About the pressure sensitive adhesives, we have studied on the PSA performance (peel, tack, holding power) as a function of both the viscoelastic properties and surface chemical properties of the materials, and found out some rules, and again we have developed a theory which deseribes the mechanism. And in addition, we have studied on the miscibility between linear polymers and oligomers, because PSA is generally manufactured by blending gums and tackifier resins. Many phase diagrams have been found and some of them have been analyzed on thermodynamic basis, and it became evident that the miscibility is a very important factor in PSA [H. J. Kin and H. Mizumachi]. In this presentation, I want to emphasize the fact that the adhesion performance is closely related to the structure/property of the adhesives.adhesives.

식품연포장용 라미네이트 수성 감압점착제의 친환경적 적용에 대한 연구 (Design and Properties of Laminating Waterborne PSA for Eco-friendly Flexible Food Packaging)

  • 본 연구는 식품연포장 적층 라미네이트에 주로 사용되는 유성접착제를 대체하기 위해 아크릴 수성화방법을 활용하여 친환경적인 수성 점착제를 설계하였다. 방법으로는 음이온/비이온 그리고 인산에스테르 계면활성제들의 조합과 분자량조절제(chain transfer agent, CTA)의 양을 달리하고, 기능성단량체(functional monomer)의 종류를 달리하였다. 합성된 점착제의 가교 정도와 분자량의 영향을 각각 실험군 8종으로 점착제를 설계 합성하고 조사하였다. 그리고 별도로 분자량이 서로 다른 styrene/alpha-methyl styrene/acrylic acid (SAA) semipolymer 분산제(Mw = 13,000과 Mw = 8,600)를 기존의 계면활성제를 대신하여 사용해 감압점착제(Pressure Sensitive Adhesive, PSA)의 물성을 조사하였다. 합성된 10종의 감압점착제가 유연포장용 기본 물성 규격에 적합한지를 DSC, 입자크기, adhesion, 분자량의 물성 분석으로 평가하였다. 실험 결과 계면활성제는 음이온/비이온 조합으로, CTA는 0.2%로 기능성 단량체는 HEA, GMA를 사용한 점착제 2개의 실험군에서 유연포장에 적용 가능한 분자량과 유연성, 낮은 접착력, 작은 입자의 물성을 확인하였다.

반응성 유화제를 이용한 피부용 수성 아크릴 점착제의 합성 및 특성 (Synthesis of Water-based Acryl Pressure Sensitive Adhesive for Skin Using Reactive Emulsifier)

  • 본 연구에서는 3-butenoic acid와 폴리옥시에틸렌(20) 스테아릴 에테르를 사용하여 비닐기를 가진 반응성 유화제를 합성하였다. 합성 반응성 유화제는 FT-IR 및 $^1H-NMR$에 의해 확인되었다. 또한, 아크릴계 점착제의 제조에서 합성된 반응성 유화제와 통상적으로 사용되는 비이온성 유화제를 사용하여 각각의 점착제의 특성을 비교하였다. 고형분 함량은 56.8~57.4%의 범위에서 측정되었다. 초기 접착의 경우, 반응성 유화제로 제조된 S20BA는 $^{\sharp}13$으로 측정되었다. 제조된 접착제의 박리강도는 $0.66{\sim}1.05kg_f$의 범위에서 측정되었고 S20BA를 사용한 경우 가장 높은 박리 강도가 측정되었다. 내열성 시험 결과, S20BA의 내열성이 $840^{\circ}C$로 가장 높았다. 피부용 접착제에 대한 응용성을 평가하기 위하여 pH는 중성 7로 측정되었으며, 일차 피부 자극 시험의 결과로 비자극성으로 측정되었다.

SIS계 점착제의 상용성과 점착물성 (Compatibility and Properties of SIS Pressure Sensitive Adhesives)

  • 무용제 타입의 hot melt계 중 styrene-isoprene-styrene(SIS) 블럭공중합체에 대한 tackifier resin의 상용성과 점탄성, 그에 영향을 미치는 점착물성에 관해 조사하였다. SIS블럭공중합체의 이소프렌상에서는 $C^5$ petroleum resin이 상용성이 우수하며, coumarone-indene resin은 전혀 상용성을 보이지 않았다. 그에 따른 점착력, 초기점착력, 견지력 등의 점착물성은 $C^5$ petroleum resin>rosin ester resin>coumarone-indene resin순으로 나타났으며, 고무상에서 상용성이 우수한 tackifier resin이 효과적임을 알았다. 한편, 이때의 저장탄성률(G')에서, plateau modulus값이 $1{\times}10^6-3{\times}10^6dyn/cm^2$일때 점착력이 가장 우수하였다.

다이싱 테이프용 자외선 경화형 점착제의 접착 물성 (Adhesion Properties of UV-curable Pressure Sensitive Adhesives for Dicing Tape)

  • 다이싱 테이프에 사용되는 UV경화형 점착제를 아크릴 공중합체를 butyl acrylate, acrylic acid, methyl methacrylate를 용액 중합을 통해 중합한 뒤, trimethylolpropane triacrylate를 블렌딩하여 제조하였다. 제조된 점착제는 UV 조사량에 따라 접착력, 유리전이온도 ($T_g$)를 측정하였는데 UV 조사량이 증가할수록 접착력은 급격하게 감소하였고 $T_g$도 증가하였다. 웨이퍼 표면에 점착 샘플을 부착하여 UV 조사 후 박리하여 표면을 관찰한 결과 점착잔류물을 남기지 않았다.

Penetration Enhancement of β2-Selective Agonist, Tulobuterol, Across Hairless Mouse Skin

  • The effects of various pressure sensitive adhesives (PSA) and enhancers on the percutaneous absorption of tulobuterol were investigated. The permeation rate of tulobuterol through hairless mouse skin from various adhesives was evaluated using a flow-through diffusion cell system at $37^{\circ}C$. The permeability of tulobuterol was variable depending on the physicochemical property of the PSA. The permeation rate of tulobuterol from polyethylene oxide grafted acrylic adhesive matrix was higher than that from other PSA matrices. The flux of tulobuterol was $4.37{\pm}0.34\;{\mu}g/hr/cm^2$ from polyethylene oxide grafted acrylic adhesive matrix. When the effects of various enhancers on the percutaneous absorption of tulobuterol from grafted acrylic adhesive were evaluated, Plurol $oleique^{\circledR}$ showed higher flux than all other enhancers tested.

신문지 재활용 공정의 일차 점착성 이물질 실시간 정량을 위한 새로운 방법 (New Method for Real-Time Analysis of Primary Stickies in ONP Recycling Process)

  • The possibility of real time analysis about hot melt resins and pressure sensitive adhesives in newsprint stock was investigated by performing comparative tests using conventional image analysis method and real time contaminants analyzer. Based on the test results, the performance of real time contaminants analyzer in terms of detecting primary stickies in newsprint stock could be verified. Real time stickies analysis showed good precision and over-estimation of hot melt resins and under-estimation of pressure sensitive adhesives could be corrected by adapting new method. Real time analysis of primary stickies in the actual newsprint stock also showed good correlation with conventional image analysis and the performance of real time contaminants analyzer could be verified again. Adjustment of the contrast sensitivity of real time contaminants analyzer was enough to set the proper monitoring conditions for primary stickies in newsprint stock.

수용성 및 알칼리 가용성 점착제의 수용성 및 알칼리 가용성 측정 (Determination of the Solubility of Water-Soluble or Alkali-Soluble Pressure Sensitive Adhesives)

  • 최근에 날로 강화되는 환경 규제, 그리고 수요자의 필요에 의해 수용성 그리고 알칼리 가용성 점착제에 대한 많은 제품 개발이 이루어지고 있다. 본 연구실에서는 그러한 특성을 정량적으로 정확하게 측정할 수 있는 시험법을 개발하여 KS 및 ISO 시험법으로 제정하였다. 본 연구에서는 이 시험법을 이용하여 수용성과 알칼리 가용성 점착제의 시간에 따른 수용화와 알칼리 가용화 정도를 측정하였고 측정결과 분석을 통해 본 시험법이 안정된 수용성 및 알칼리 가용화 데이터를 생성하고 있음을 보여주었다.
