Study on the Antiinflammatory Effect of Gleditschiae Spina -Focussed on Takrisodokum and Kwaluubangtang- (조각자의 소염작용(消炎作用)에 대(對)한 실험적(實驗的) 연구(硏究) 부제(附題) : 탁이소독음(托裏消毒飮)과 과루우방탕(瓜蔞牛蒡湯)의 가감(加減)에 따른 효능비교(效能比較))

  • The inhibitory effects of Gleditschiae Spina, Cleditschia saponin, two complex prescriptions such as Takrisodokum and Kwaluubangtang, which contain Gleditschiae Spina, and their altered prescriptions on the activity of cyclooxygenase in vitro were investigated. The water extract of Gleditschiae Spina and Gleditschia saponin markedly inhibited the cyclo-oxygenase activity by 59% and 67%, respectively, at a concentration of $1mg/m{\ell}$, on the other hand, Takrisodokum and Kwaluubangtang showed 15% and 7% inhibition, respectively. The extracts with the substraction of Gleditschiae Spina and/or Platycodi Radix inhibited to a much smaller extent than Takrisodokum. However, in case of the extracts with the substraction of Gleditschiae Spina and/or Trichosanthis Semen, only one prescription, which does not contain Trichosanthis Semen, exhibited the same inhibition as Takrisodokum. From above results, Gleditschiae Spina was found to be most important for the effect of Takrisodokum and Kwaluubangtang on their antiinflammatory action. Instead of Gleditschiae Spina, another parts of this plant were added to both complex prescriptions and tested according to above methods, indicating that Gleditschiae Spina is more important than another parts for both prescriptions. When the administered dose of Gleditschiae Spina is increased(twofold and threefold) in both complex prescriptions, the inhibitory effect in Takrisodokum was diminished. however, the effect in Kwaluubangtang was increased.

  • Lee Jema said in his book, Dongui Susebowon, that the prescriptions for Soum constitutional type were already developed by doctors during the Song Jin Yuan China around 10th-13th century. Those prescriptions were common techniques that were used throughout the East Asian region. Among them, Lee Jema specially selected some candidate formulas and modified them according to his constitutional theory. This study investigated how similar his modified prescriptions to original formulas through database[ancient formula database] analysis. 24 out of 24 Soum prescriptions selected meaningful ingredient herbs from the original formula. A 50% or higher concordance rate compared to the original formulas. There are only 9 treatment prescriptions that cannot be checked in the ancient formula database. A future task will be to reveal the practical meanings of the ingredients Lee Jema adjusted for the Soum constitutional type patients.

  • The Taesangugeupbang (Emergency Prescriptions for Childbirth) is a medical text written by Li-Chengong of China in the early 14th century. It incorporates forms of obstetrics and gynecology in use in the Chosun Dynasty and is quoted in the Hyangyakjibsungbang (Compendium of Prescription from the Countryside), the Euibangyoochui (Classified Collection of Medical Prescriptions), and the Taesanjibyo (Collection of Essentials for Childbirth). The recent rediscovery of Taesangugeupbang manuscripts in Japan has enabled full-scale research of this text. This article is based on a study of these manuscripts and attempts to synthesize the text through the various documents. The article suggests that: (1) critical texts for understanding the Taesangugeupbang include the Uijeoggo (A Review of Medical Books), the Euibangyoochui, and the Taesanjibyo; (2) there is a possibility that the Taesangugeupbang had disappeared from use in Joseon by the late 15th century; (3) the Taesangugeupbang complemented the treatment regimen of other texts and influenced the development of early Chosun ophthalmology; (4) The Taesangugeupbang is quoted in many Joseon's medical texts and is related to the author's mentor.

  • The acute and subacute toxicities and pharmacological actions of two preparations of Ssanghwa Tang prescriptions have been evaluated in mice, rats and rabbits. The two prescriptions were found to be safe drugs because those preparations exhibited almost no acute and subacute toxicities even at a high dosage level. The two prescriptions elicited CNS depressant activities characterized by potentiation of hexobarbital-induced narcosis, antipyretic activity in typhoid-vaccinated rabbits and a significant antifatigue effect against cold immobilized stress, the activities of prescription B being more potent.

  • Objective : This study is about how the theory on ten kinds of prescriptions has been developed and how it has been applied for in prescription books and clinical texts. Methods : I made a comparison of this theory in prescriptions books and clinical texts. After it, I investigated the developing history based on it. Results and Conclusion : This theory had been used for classification of not prescription but herb, until Cho Gil(趙佶) and Seong Mugi(成無已) enlarged its meanings. The first mention about it was made by Jin Janggi(陳藏器). Yu Wanso(劉完素) gave it more definite meanings by showing prescription examples than before. Jang Jahwa(張子和) corrected what Yu Wanso explained. Besides, someone for example, Gu Jongseok(寇宗奭), Mok Huiong(繆希雍), Seo Chunbo(徐春甫), and so on added some kinds of prescription.
