The author observed the effect of x-ray irradiation on the tooth germ development of the rat fetuses. The lower right abdomen of the pregnant rats were exposed to x-ray irradiation (400 rads) on 9½th day of qestation. At 18½th day of qestation, the fetuses were removed from their mothers and histological sections of molar region were prepared. The results were as folows: 1. In the experimental fetuses, no significant changes appeared in the histological aspects of the enamel pulp, except the poor development of the innerenamel epithelium in the cusp region. 2. Pulp cells of cusp region in the irradiated fetuses were not differentiated to odontoblasts, The arrangement and population of pulp cells showed marked regional differences in the dental papilla. 3. Developmental features of dental follicle of irradiated fetuses were similar with controls.
The author studied the effects of anticancer Endoxan to the rat's teeth. Two hundred pregnant rats were used. The experimental rats were given an intramuscular injection of Endoxan as nitrogen mustard derivatives 10mg. per 40gm of body weight. In order to investigate effects of Endoxan to the teeth of rats the control and experimental rats group wee sacrificed on 1,3,5,7 and 14days, and made preparation for histopathologic findings. The rusults were as follows: 1. In several days (about 5days) after injection of Endoxan, tooth germs of cap stage, bell stage, and dental lamina were irregular arranged form as compared with in the control group teeth. 2. Irregular arranged cell were recovered from 14days after injection of Endoxan.

These experiments tested whether exposure to benomyl (BN) or lindane (LD) during late pregnancy affect the development of reproductive tract in adult offspring. Timed pregnant Sprague Dawley rats (N=7∼8/treatment) were gavaged with LD (1, 5, or 10 mg/kg), BN (50, 250, or 500 mg/kg), or com oil on gestation days 15∼19.(omitted)
The present investigation has been undertaken to elucidate the differentiation mechanism the uterus which is the environment of the embryo development, by demonstrating the role of ovarian steroids hormone in the decidualization of the pseudopregnant rat uterus. To determine the effect of ovarine steroids and artificial stimulation (trauma) on the differenciation of the uterine endometrium and decidualization for implantation, attempt was made to measure concentrations of serum estradiol($E_2$), progesterone($P_4$) and nuclear $P_4$ receptor in the traumatized and non-traumatized uterine tissue of the pseudopregnant rat. The results obtained are as followings : The concentration of serum $E_2$ on day 9(implantation stage) was similar in both of intact pseudopregnant rat(47.63pg/ml) and normal pregnant rat(40.71pg/ml). And among the treated groups, $E_2$ concentration was highest in the $E_2$ treated group in comparision with intact control group(relative value; 73.27%). The concentration of serum $P_4$ was also highest in the $P_4$ treated group(23.12pg/ml). Relative value of $P_4$ treated group in comparision with intact group(24.88pg/ml) was 92.93%. The nuclear $P_4$ receptor levels in the artificial traumatized groups were higher compared with the non-traumatized control groups. This study, therefore, clearly demonstrates that the methods for inducing pseudopregnant (vagina tapping;120/min) and inducing decidualization(oil injection; 0.1ml/uterine horn) appear to be effective, $P_4$ appears to be effective in the differenciation of the uterine endometrial tissue for the implantation process. Concentration of serum $P_4$ seems to be well correlated with the level of the nuclear $P_4$ receptor during the early embryo development. These results seem to be well correlated with ALPase activities in the normal and pseudopregnant rat uterus shown in the previous study.
Nitrofen [2,4-dichlorophenyl-P-nitrophenyl ether] is a diphenyl ether herbicide used for pre and post-emergent control of broad leafed weeds. This chemical was known to induce a variety of congenital cardiovascular anomalies with diaphragmatic hernia and hydronephrosis in the rate fetuses. The present study was conducted to produce congenital cardiovascular anomalies in the rat fetuses by oral nitrofen administration at the indicated doses and days of gestation, and to find the characteristics of nitrofen-induced cardiovascular anomalies. All the observed fetuses were removed from the pregnant Sprague-Dawley rats sacrificed on the twenty-first day of gestation. They were preserved in 10 per cent formalin and dissection for examination were carried out under a dissecting microscope using forceps and scissors. Following results and conclusion were based on dissecting microscopic findings on 482 offsprings. 1. The eleventh day of gestation was the most sensitive day for nitrofen induction of congenital cardiovascular anomalies in the rat. This incidence was dose-related in rats exposed on the eleventh day of gestation. 2. Ventricular septal defect was the most common single anomaly that represented more than half of the total cardiovascular anomalies, followed by aortic arch anomalies and tetralogy of Fallot. 3. Cardiac anomalies derived from infundibular maldevelopment such as tetralogy of Fallot and pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect were only observed in the eleventh gestation day treated group. 4. Aortic arch anomalies were found in high frequency and the great majority were characteristically anomalous right subclavian artery with left aortic arch. Key words; nitrofen, congenital cardiovascular anomalies.
The present studies were carried out to examine the effects of exogenous oxytocin(OT) on plasma, uterine and placenta of estradiol-17$\beta$, progesterone, prostaglandin F$_2$$_{\alpha}$ (PGF$_2$$_{\alpha}$), Prostaglandin E$_2$(PGE$_2$) and OT receptor concentrations in pregnant rats. Pregnant rats received an injection of exogenous OT on days 14, 16, 18, 20, 22 of pregnancy and day 1 of postpartum. Concentrations of plasma estradiol-17 $\beta$ after OT injection started to increase after day 18 and peaked on day 22 of pregnancy but decreased on day 1 of postpartum. Plasma progesterone concentrations declined gradually from day 18 of pregnancy and decreased more rapidly until postpartum 1 day. Concentrations of estradiol-17$\beta$in uterine tissues after OT injection were sharply increased from day 20 to 22 of pregnancy and progestrone concentrations were peaked on day 16 and decreased rapidly from day 16 to 20 and maintained the same level until day 1 of postpartum. Uterine concentrations of PGF$_2$$_{\alpha}$ and PGE$_2$increased gradually until day 20 and peaked on day 22 of pregnancy but showed a marked decrease on day 1 of postpartum. Concentrations of PGF$_2$$_{\alpha}$ in placental tissues increased rapidly from day 14 of pregnancy and decreased sharply on day 1 of postpartum. Concentrations of PGE$_2$increased gradually after day 14 and peaked on day 20 of pregnancy. The concentration of OT receptor in uterus was significantly elevated from day 20 and rose to maximum on day 22 of pregnancy. These findings show that OT suppress the concentration of progestrone and stimulate productions of estradiol-17 $\beta$, PGF$_2$$_{\alpha}$, PGE$_2$ and oxytocin receptor concentrations in pregnant rats.
Purpose : This study has an experiment on finding how Hyangbujapamultang advanced the learning and memory of rat to find the method to improve the failure of memory which is the symptom of dementia.Method : In the experiment, rats were divided the control group (14 rat) which medicate the excipient into the sample group (17 rat) which medicates Hyangbujapalmutang. And the learning ability test and the memorv test was practiced to using the task of radial arm maze. The learning ability test had the presupposition that, when a rat which frequents 8 tracks makes am error not exceeding one time for 3 days without a break, it passes the test.First experiment compared total days when the control group passed the test with total days when the sample group it.The memory test practiced after 24 hours when the learning ability test was over. When a rat frequents 4 tracks, the gates is cut off during 30 seconds. Here the number of error at the control group with that of the sample group.Result: In the learning ability test, the sample group needed 5.82${\pm}$0.37 days to pass the test and the control group needed 6.43${\pm}$0.67 days. In the memory test, the sample group errored 0.29${\pm}$0.37 times and the control group errored 1.86${\pm}$0.78 times. Conclusion : In the learning ability test, the sample group passed the test earlier than the control group, but any statistical correlationship couldn't be found in it. In the memory test, the sample group had the pregnant reduction of the number of error in comparison with the control group.

Purpose: Gestational nutrition has an impact on the growth and development of the fetus. Choline (C) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) are important and essential nutrients for humans that play a role in the structural integrity of the membranes as well as signalling. C is used in the synthesis of phosphatidylcholine, and cell membranes are highly enriched with DHA. The dietary intake of C or DHA during pregnancy directly influences fetal development. Currently, there is no evidence to prove the effectiveness of the combined dietary supplementation of both C and DHA during gestation on developmental outcomes in the offspring. Methods: The current study was designed to assess the physical, sensory, and motor development of rat pups born to mothers supplemented with C and/or DHA during the entire gestational period. Pregnant rat dams were divided into the following five groups: Normal control (NC), Saline control (SC), Choline (C), DHA, and Choline+DHA (C+DHA). The NC dams did not receive any supplementation during the entire gestation period. The experimental groups were supplemented with Saline, C, and/or DHA, respectively, during the entire gestation (E0 to delivery). Results: Rat pups (n = 6/group) exposed to combined C and DHA showed significant improvement in birth weight, fur development, eye-opening as well as weight gain on the 7th, 14th, and 21st postnatal day and pinnae detachment (assessed from birth to postnatal day 21) when compared with age-matched NC, SC or C or DHA pups. Further, significant reflex responses were observed in visual placing and bar holding of pups exposed to both C and DHA, whereas the differences in surface righting, negative geotaxis, and grasping reflexes were not significant between the groups. Conclusion: Gestational supplementation of both C and DHA rather than either of them alone is better in enhancing developmental outcomes in rat pups.
The effects of PMSG and/or prostaglandin analogue, cloprostenol, on the prevention of implantation, termination of pregnancy, concentration of plasma progesterone, and Na and K contents of the plasma and uterine fluid were studied in pregnant rats. PMSG 50 or 100 IU concomitant with cloprostenol 90 or 180 mg were administered once on day 3 or 9 of gestation. Rats were autopsied on days 8, 10 or 21 gestation. A single administration of PMSG resulted in increasing the number of corpora lutea, preventing implantation and terminating pregnancy. A single administration of cloprostenol had no effect on the prevention of implantation and termination of pregnancy but was able to induce the termination of pregnancy administering at large doses on day 9. A single administration of PMSG concomitant with cloprostenol ws found to be very increased the number of corpora lutea and to be 100% effective in preventing implantation and to be nearly 100% effective in terminating pregnancy. It is uncommon that a single dose of PMSG 50 IU concomitant with cloprostenol 90 or 180 mg on day 9 was able to maintain the pregnancy at very low rates of 0.3∼5.3%. Concentration of plasma progesterone and Na and K contents of the plasma and uterine fluid were increased or decreased administering PMSG and/or cloprostenol, but had no effect on preventing implantation and terminating pregnancy.

The authors has observed the effect of X-ray irradiation on the dentin matrix formation of the albino rat fetuses. The lower abdomen of the pregnant ratswere exposed to X-ray on the 9 1/2th day of gestation, respectively 150, 250 and 350 rads. The fetuses of the right sides of the same pregnant rats which were not exposed to X-ray were as controls. The results were as follows: 1) In the 150 rads irradiated fetuses, predentin formation was identical with control groups, but the arrangement of odontoblasts was distorted, subodontoblastic layer was condesed with pulp cells and blood capillaries were enlarged. 2) In the 250 rads irradiation, dentin matrix was imperfact or osteodentin was occured. Short columnar or cuboidal odontoblasts were presented and pulp cells were dispersed. Blood capillaries were cogested. 3) 350 rads irradiated fetuses showed osteodentin matrix and numerous degenerated odontoblasts. Their dental papilla showed reticular atrophy and enlarged capillary.
