"Least Gain or Wrist Pain": A comparative study about performance and usability of mouse, trackball, and touchpad

  • The mouse as an input device has undoubtedly brought convenience to users due to its intuitiveness and simplicity, but it also brought unprecedented issues such as carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). As a result, the necessity of alternative input devices that put less strain on the wrist, while still providing the convenience of a conventional mouse, has emerged. Unfortunately, there have been several research about alternative devices to replace a mouse, however, they showed inconsistent results. This study suggests that those inconsistent results may stem from the type and the difficulty of tasks used in previous studies. Therefore, we designed this study to compare the performance and perceived workload of three input devices (Mouse/Trackball/Touchpad) in each condition in terms of task type (Targeting/Tracking) and difficulty level (Easy/Hard). The results indicated that there were significant performance differences and no significant workload differences among the three devices, and the interactions were observed in some conditions. These results can provide users with practical guidelines to choose the optimal input device according to their needs or purpose.

  • The main purpose of the study is to determine the main elements of the use of digital technologies for learning a foreign language in educational institutions. The era of digital technologies is a transition from the traditional format of working with information to a digital format. This is the era of the total domination of digital technologies. Digital technologies have gained an unprecedented rapid and general distribution. In recent years, all spheres of human life have already undergone the intervention of digital technologies. Therefore, it is precisely the educational industry that faces a difficult task - to move to a new level of education, where digital technologies will be actively used, allowing you to conveniently and quickly work in the information field for more effective learning and development. The study has limitations and they relate to the fact that the practical activities of the process of using digital technologies in the system of preparing the study of a foreign language were not taken into account.

The Effect of Personality Type on Human Performance Tool Compliance and General Recommendations for Enhancement of the its Practical Utilization

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of personality type on human performance tool compliance in nuclear power plants (NPPs) and to propose general recommendations for an enhancement of its practical utilization. Background: Various guidelines, regulating criteria, and recommendations have been developed to prevent human errors in NPPs. Despite these efforts, the accidents sometimes caused by human errors have steadily occurred, and therefore, various human performance tools have been adopted as countermeasures against human errors. The major and inevitable contributing factors among the many hazards to human errors might be the trait and personality, which are considered to be the inner world of humans. Thus, we try to investigate the utilization of human performance tools by considering the different types of operating crew personalities, and we suggested more practical recommendations to prevent human errors according to the personality. Method: We developed the Questionnaire using the Big 6 (HEXACO) models, which are human performance tools for workers in NPPs, and individual (condition) variables to investigate the effect of personality types on human performance tools. We slightly modified them to help the survey respondents understand them better. A survey was conducted for ordinary people over the age of 20. SPSS 22.0 was used to perform a correlation analysis and a hierarchical regression analysis to find the relationship between personality types and human performance tools. Results: The utilization of human performance tools shows significant differences statistically by personality. The correlation result reveals that the types of Honesty (H), Extraversion (X), Conscientiousness (C), and Openness to experience (O) show a higher utilization of human performance tools. In hierarchical regression results, human performance tools of task preview, questioning attitude, stopping when unsure, self-checking, effective communication, and place-keeping show a higher utilization with personality types. However, the Agreeableness (A) type did not show significant differences statistically with human performance tools. Conclusion: We tried to investigate the utilization of human performance tools by considering the different types of human personality and provide more practical recommendations to prevent human errors according to the personality. These results will be able to prevent human errors owing to the characteristics (advantages and disadvantages) of personality types. Application: This information can be utilized as guidelines for proactive recommendations according to the workers' personalities for more practical human performance tools to prevent human errors in an NPP.

개인-조직 및 개인-직무 적합성이 과업성과에 미치는 영향에서 임파워먼트, 지속적 학습활동, 협업의 구조적 관계에 관한 연구 : 애자일 조직문화의 스타트업 종사자를 대상으로 (A Study on the Structural Relationships of Empowerment, Continuous Learning Activities, and Collaboration in the Effects of Person-Organization and Person-Job Fit on Task Performance : Focusing on Employees in Startups with an Agile Organizational Culture)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 애자일(Agile) 조직문화의 7년 이내 초기 스타트업 종사자의 개인-조직 적합성, 개인-직무 적합성이 과업 성과에 미치는 영향에서 임파워먼트, 지속적 학습활동, 협업의 구조적 관계를 밝히는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 이론적인 고찰과 선행연구를 바탕으로 연구 모형과 가설을 수립하였다. 자료 수집은 애자일 조직문화를 가진 7년 이내의 스타트업 임직원을 대상으로 조사하였으며, 총 204부의 자료를 분석에 활용하였다. 가설 검증을 하기 전, 표본의 특성을 확인하고 확인적 요인분석을 실시하여 측정모형의 적합도를 확인하였다. 이를 바탕으로 집중타당성과 판별타당성을 검정하고, 신뢰도를 분석하였다. 다음으로 구조모형의 적합도를 분석하고, 구조모형 분석의 결과를 바탕으로 기본 가설 및 매개효과 가설을 검정하였다. 분석 결과를 살펴보면 개인-조직 적합성은 임파워먼트, 지속적 학습활동, 협업에 정의 유의한 영향을 미치고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 개인-직무 적합성은 임파워먼트, 지속적 학습활동, 협업에 정의 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 반면 임파워먼트는 과업성과에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났으며, 지속적 학습활동은 과업성과에 부의 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 협업은 과업성과에 정의 유의한 영향을 미치는 것을 확인할 수 있었으며, 매개검정 분석 결과에서는 협업이 개인-직무 적합성과 과업성과와의 관계에서 매개작용을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 실증 분석 결과를 토대로 연구의 의의, 학문적·실무적 시사점, 연구의 한계점 및 향후 연구 방향을 제시하였다.

비의식적 정서가 동작수행 정보처리과정 중 운동 프로그램에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of Unconscious Emotion on Motor Program of Information Processing for Movement Execution)

  • 인간-로봇 상호작용 접근에서 로봇이 정서를 인식하고 표현하고 대처할 수 있도록 로봇을 만드는 것은 미래 로봇산업에서 중요한 과제이다. 본 연구의 목적은 긍정적 부정적 정서 정보에 대한 자동적 처리과정에 의해 동작수행을 위한 정보처리 과정 중에 운동 프로그램 단계에 차별적인 영향을 미치는가를 규명하는 것이었다. 13명(남=11, 여=2)의 실험자자가 본 연구에 참여하여 웃는 얼굴과 화난 얼굴을 10ms의 비의식적 수준에서 정서적 점화자극을 제시받은 후 단추누르기 과제, 단추 누른 후 테니스 공 1개 타격, 단추 누른 후 테니스 공 2개 타격하는 과제를 수행하였다. 그 결과 긍정적 정서 자극은 부정적 정서자극과 비교해 복잡한 운동을 계획하는데 더욱 빠른것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 인간-로봇 상호작용에서 로봇이 인간의 정서를 인식하고 표현하기 위해서는 적어도 2개의 정서 인터페이스가 있어야 함을 암시한다.

스트레스 사건의 경험이 주의변화에 미치는 영향 (Influence of Stress Experience on Change of Attention)

  • For a man to maintain attention, he needs to keep a certain level of arousal. An inordinate increase or decrease in the level of arousal eventually has a negative influence on attention. Precedent research has shown that the degree of attention changes when an experience of stress is related to anxiety resulting in a rise in arousal. This research was done to examine this hypothesis by looking at the 27 female students, 14 of whom had failed in the annual examination. The results of the investigation are as follows : The stress of failure in the examination was seen to raise the level of physiological arousal. Although pulse and electromyography showed no significant change, further inquiries should be made based on other types of methodology. In spite of the rise of arousal, the performance of selective task was degraded. This suggests those students failed to give moderate attention to given information for that kind of task. But the exact reason of that failure was not identified : that is it was difficult decide whether they gave too much attention to the anxiety brought about by stress. Performance of integral tasks, however, did not show any degradation. Judging from these results, stress seems to exert significant influence on attention in the selection of the appropriate information among the various options given. This offers an important hint in relation to the health care situation where nursing information is offered. Clients who receive nursing information in stressful situations may have difficulty in separating and selecting this helpful information from other options which they have acquired through their life experience. The content and terminology of nursing information may be strange and unintelligible to clients, although they are quite familiar and distinct to nurses. So, it is desirable for nurses to give, in addition and at the same time when nursing information is given, some certain related information as devices for selection, instead of merely giving nursing informations as such. So far it is not clear whether the concepts of information processing theory can be suitably applied to nursing. However, it is obvious, according to this research, that the quality of attention is disturbed in the stress situation. This is why further inquiries should be made into attention in practical nursing situation.

Bag of Words 기반 음향 상황 인지를 위한 주파수-캡스트럴 특징 (Frequency-Cepstral Features for Bag of Words Based Acoustic Context Awareness)

  • 음향 상황 인지(acoustic context awareness)는 다양하게 발생되는 음원들로부터 어떠한 장소인지 또는 어떠한 사건이 발생하는지를 판단하는 기술로 음향 이벤트 검출 또는 인식 보다 한 단계 더 복잡한 문제이다. 기존의 상황인지 기술은 음향 이벤트 검출 또는 인식 기술에 기반하여 현재 상황을 인지하는 방법을 사용하고 있다. 하지만 이와 같은 접근 방법은 여러 음원이 동시에 발생하거나 유사한 음원이 발생하는 실제 환경에서 정확한 상황 판단이 어렵다. 특히 버스와 지하철은 승객들에 의한 잡음으로 상황을 인지하기 힘들다. 이러한 문제를 극복하기 위해 본 논문에서는 유사한 음향 이벤트가 발생하는 버스와 지하철 상황을 인식할 수 있는 Bag of Words 기반의 상황 인지 알고리즘을 연구하고 코드북 생성을 위한 특징벡터를 제안한다. 제안하는 특징벡터의 효용성은 Support Vector Machine을 이용한 실험을 통해 검증했다.

통합교과로서의 게임 프로젝트 교육과정 운영방안 탐구 (A Study of Game Project Curriculum for Integrated Subject)

  • 본 연구는 이질적인 속성을 가진 학문분야들을 통합하여 하나의 교육과정으로 운영하는 프로젝트 중심 교육과정에 대한 운영 방안을 제안하고 있다. 통합교과의 의미는 게임 현장에서처럼 게임 기획, 프로그램, 그래픽과 같은 이질적인 분야의 학습자들을 대상으로 실제적인 하나의 결과물을 만들어낼 수 있도록 하는 것을 의미한다. 본 연구에서 제시되는 프로젝트 중심의 교육과정에 대한 운영방안은 국내에서 2008년도부터 A 교육기관에서 진행해온 게임 프로젝트 교육과정을 토대로 실증 및 분석을 하였다. 본 연구의 결과로는 통합교과를 기반으로 하는 프로젝트 교육과정에 대한 운영 방안의 기준을 제시하고 있으며, 크게 두 가지 형태로 내용을 분류하여 구성하고 있다. 첫 번째는 학생들이 교육과정을 통해 "책임감" 및 "협업 능력"과 같이 학습되어지는 내용들에 대한 부분들을 정리하고 있으며, 두 번째로는 성공적인 프로젝트 교육과정을 운영하기 위해 단계별로 진행되는 팀 구성, 프로젝트 계획, 팀 운영 및 협업, 중간 및 기말 발표, 그리고 평가 부분에 대한 운영 방법론을 제시하고 있다. 이러한 제안된 운영방안이 통합 교과로서의 프로젝트 교육과정을 운영하는데 있어서 하나의 밑거름 및 가이드라인이 될 것으로 기대한다.

$CO_2$ 자동용접의 공정변수와 표면 비드폭의 상관관계에 관한 민감도 분석 (Sensitivity Analysis to Relationship Between Process Parameter and Top-bead with in an Automatic $CO_2$ Welding)

  • The automatic $CO_2$ welding is a manufacturing process to produce high quality joints for metal and it could provide a capability of full automation to enhance productivity. Despite the widespread use in the various manufacturing industries, the full automation of the robotic $CO_2$ welding has not yet been achieved partly because the mathematical model for the process parameters of a given welding task is not fully understood and quantified. Several mathematical models to control welding quality, productivity, microstructure and weld properties in arc welding processes have been studied. However, it is not an easy task to apply them to the various practical situations because the relationship between the process parameters and the bead geometry is non-linear and also they are usually dependent on the specific experimental results. Practically, it is difficult, but important to know how to establish a mathematical model that can predict the result of the actual welding process and how to select the optimum welding condition under a certain constraint. In this research, an attempt has been made to develop an intelligent algorithm to predict the weld geometry (top-bead width, top-bead height, back-bead width and back-bead height) as a function of key process parameters in the robotic $CO_2$welding. A sensitivity analysis has been conducted and compared the relative impact of three process parameters on bead geometry in order to verify the measurement errors on the values of the uncertainty in estimated parameters.
