  • In this study, we investigated the effects of five EMS lumbar back pressure belts produced on an anatomical basis on lumbar spine stabilization. Five core muscles were selected, including the urinal, vertebral column, endotracheal, external abdominal, and large back muscles, and patterns were designed using a conductive fabric considering the appropriate muscle shape and pain-causing points. We experimented with four motions to examine the effects of different EMS abdominal compression belts on lumbar spine stabilization. Five healthy men in their 20s were selected. The selection conditions include no back pain history for the past three months, no restricted movements through pre-inspection, and the muscular strength of the body should belong to the normal grade. Using SLR, the sequence of experimental actions was chosen from the following but not limited to left-hand, body-hand, and back-line forces. Resting between movements lasted for 2 min, and the experiments were conducted after wearing the EMS abdominal pressure belt. Electrical stimulation was applied for 10 min to increase blood flow and muscle activation. The statistics of the experimental results were analyzed for specific differences by conducting the Wilcoxon and Friedman tests with nonparametric tests. The ranking results of each pattern were successfully assessed in the order of 5, 4, 3, 1, 2 for the five patterns, and we could identify slightly more significant results for experimental behavior associated with each muscle movement. Patterns produced based on anatomy showed differentiated effects when electric stimulation was applied to each muscle in different shapes, which could improve the stabilization of the lumbar spine in everyday life or training to the public. Based on these results, subsequent research would focus on developing smart healthcare clothing that is practical in daily life by employing different anatomical mechanisms, depending on the back pain, to utilize trunk-type tights.

  • Cloud computing is already well known paradigm that a support computing resource flexible and scalable to users as the want in distributed computing environment. Actually, cloud computing can be implemented and provided by virtualization technology. Also, various products are released or under development. In this paper, we built the teaching practice system using cloud computing and evaluated practical environment which constructed over a virtual machine. Virtualization-based cloud computing provides optimized computing resources, as well as easy to manage practical resource and result. Therefore, we can save the time for configuration of practice environment. In the view of faculty, they can easily handle the practice result. Also, those practice condition reuse comfortably and apply to various configuration simply. And then we can increase capabilities and availabilities of limited resources. Additionally, we measure the performance requirements for educational applications through evaluation of virtual-based teaching practical system in advance.

  • In this paper, we present the practical application of an Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) for an Indoor Mobile Localization System using ultrasonic sensors. It is true that many kinds of localization techniques have been researched for several years in order to contribute to the realization of a ubiquitous system; particularly, such a ubiquitous system needs a high degree of accuracy to be practical and efficient. Unfortunately, a number of localization systems for indoor space do not have sufficient accuracy to establish any special task such as precise position control of a moving target even though they require comparatively high developmental cost. Therefore, we developed an Indoor Mobile Localization System having high localization performance; specifically, the Unscented Kalman Filter is applied for improving the localization accuracy. In addition, we also present the additive filter named 'Pre-filtering' to compensate the performance of the estimation algorithm. Pre-filtering has been developed to overcome negative effects from unexpected external noise so that localization through the Unscented Kalman Filter has come to be stable. Moreover, we tried to demonstrate the performance comparison of the Unscented Kalman Filter and another estimation algorithm, such as the Unscented Particle Filter (UPF), through simulation for our system.

  • Characteristics of turbulent lifted flames in coflow jets with the varying initial temperature have recently been investigated about only propane case diluted by nitrogen. The investigation has firstly improved a premixed flame model and a large scale mixing model among competing theories on the stabilization mechanism of turbulent flame to be suitable for a high temperature condition. In this research, about methane with good availability to apply for a practical combustor as clean fuel, its characteristics of turbulent nonpremixed flame have been studied experimentally. The results have shown an effectiveness of the premixed flame model and the large scale mixing model considered initial temperature variation. Additionally, considering the axial distance where the mean fuel concentration falls below the stoichiometric level along the center line of the jet according to diluting nitrogen, the premixed flame model have more accurately been improved.

  • Soil nailing technique is being widely used for stabilization of vertical cuts because of its economic, environment friendly and speedy construction. Global stability and lateral displacement are the two important stability criteria for the soil nail walls. The primary objective of the present study is to evaluate soil nail wall stability criteria under the influence of in-situ soil variability. Finite element based numerical experiments are performed in accordance with the methodology of $2^3$ factorial design of experiments. Based on the analysis of the observations from numerical experiments, two regression models are developed, and used for reliability analyses of global stability and lateral displacement of the soil nail wall. A 10 m high prototype soil nail wall is considered for better understanding and to highlight the practical implications of the present study. Based on the study, lateral displacements beyond 0.10% of vertical wall height and variability of in-situ soil parameters are found to be critical from the stability criteria considerations of the soil nail wall.

  • It is well known that one can easily design a high-gain adaptive output feedback control for a class of nonlinear systems which satisfy a certain condition called output feedback exponential passivity (OFEP). The designed high-gain adaptive controller has simple structure and high robustness with regard to bounded disturbances and unknown order of the controlled system. However, from the viewpoint of practical application, it is important to consider a robust control scheme for controlled systems for which some of the assumptions of output feedback stabilization are not valid. In this paper, we design a robust high-gain adaptive output feedback control for the OFEP nonlinear systems with uncertain nonlinearities and/or disturbances. The effectiveness of the proposed method is shown by numerical simulations.

  • This paper discusses an output-tracking control design method for Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy systems with parametric uncertainties. We first represent the concerned system as a set of uncertain linear systems. The tracking problem is then converted into a stabilization problem thereby leading to a more feasible control design procedure. A sufficient condition for robust practical output tracking is derived in terms of a set of linear matrix inequalities. A numerical example for a flexible-joint robot-arm model has been demonstrated, to convincingly show effectiveness of the proposed system modeling and control design.

  • This Paper Proposes a design method of a fuzzy output feedback controller for the nonlinear systems with the unknown time- delay. Recently, Cao et ai. proposed a stabilization method for the nonlinear time-delay systems using a fuzzy controller when the time-delay is known. However, the time-delay is likely to be unknown in practical. We represent the nonlinear systems with the unknown time-delay by Takagi-Sugeno (T-5) fuzzy model and design the fuzzy observer and the parallel distributed compensation (PDC) law based on this observer. By applying Lyapunov-Krasovskii theorem to the closed-loop system, the sufficient condition for the asymptotic stability of the equilibrium Point is derived and converted into the linear matrix inequality (LMI) Problem.

  • An experimental study was made of flame stabilization in unconfined turbulent swirling propane gas flames using various degrees of swirl and equivalence ratios. This study was carried out to investigate the effects of swirl number and equivalence ratio on the flow characteristics and the combustion characteristics in both nonreacting and reacting flow field of the model combustor which symplifys the continuous type combustor for the practical use.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an underground Building. Population tends to concentrate in large cities. In result, the cities lacks housings. Underground space may be a attractive space by being able to gain alternative energy and get a cheap site, protect environment at the same time. The earth or ground is a useful medium for a long-term heat source and storage of it's heat. Also the underground space has the status of stabilization, the lower heating load and the similar heat transfer coefficient of the inside wall surface comparing to that of residential space. Utilization of underground space has many advantages to cope with lack of building sites and energy conservation, etc. As a result, it is expected to provide a useful information for the practical use of Underground building.
