  • This paper presents a novel multilevel PWM inverter employing series-connected transformers in order to improve the waveshape of output voltage and to reduce its harmonics. The proposed 11-level inverter consists of three full-bridge inverter modules and their corresponding transformers. Among their inverter modules, one is used as PWM operation and the others as level generation. From a suitable selection of turns ratio of transformer, continuous output voltage levels were generated appearing an integral ratio to input DC source. Because of their series connection of transformers, output filter inductor is not necessary. The operational principles and analysis are explained, and it is compared with a conventional multilevel PWM inverter. The validity of the proposed system Is verified through the experimental results using a prototype.

  • A novel Zero Current Switching(ZCS) Pulse Width Modulation(PWM) boost converter with dual mode for reducing two rectifiers reverse recovery related losses is proposed. The switches of the proposed converter are operating to work alternatively turn-on and turn-off with soft switching condition In the every cycle and the proposed converter reduces the reverse recovery current, which is related switching losses and EMI problems, of the free-wheeling diode$(D_1, D_2)$ by adding the resonant inductor Lr, in series with the switch $S_1$. The switching components$(S_1, S_2, D, D_1)$ in the proposed boost converter are subjected to minimum voltage and current stresses same as those in their PWM counterparts because there are no additional active switches and resonant elements compared with the conventional ZVT PWM $converters^{[2]}$. The operation of the proposed converter, in this paper, is analyzed and to verify the feasibility of the characteristics is built and tested.

  • DC/DC switching power converters are commonly used to generate a regulated DC output voltage with high efficiency. The DC/DC converter is composed of a MOSFET (metal-oxide semiconductor field effect transistor), a PWM-IC (pulse width modulation-integrated circuit) controller, inductor, capacitor, etc. It is shown that the variation of threshold voltage and the breakdown voltage in the electrical characteristics of MOSFET occurs by radiation effects in TID (Total Ionizing Dose) testing at the low energy ${\gamma}$ rays using $^{60}Co$, and 5 heavy ions make the gate of MOSFET broken in SEGR (Single Event Gate Rupture) testing. TID testing on MOSFET is accomplished up to the total dose of 40 krad, and the cross section($cm^2$) versus LET(MeV/mg/$cm^2$) in the MOSFET operation is studied at SEGR testing after implementation of the controller board.

  • In this paper, we proposes the three-phase embedded Z-source inverter consisting of the three embedded Z-source converters and it's the output voltage control method. Each embedded Z-source converter can produce the bipolar output capacitor voltages according to duty ratio D such as single-phase PWM inverter. The output AC voltage of the proposed system is obtained as the difference in the output capacitor voltages of each converter, and the L-C output filter is not required. Because the output AC voltage can be stepped up and down, the boost DC converter in the conventional two-stage inverter is unnecessary. To confirm the validity of the proposed system, PSIM simulation and a DSP based experiment were performed under the condition of the input DC voltage 38V, load $100{\Omega}$, and switching frequency 30kHz. Each converter is connected by Y-connection for three-phase loads. In case that the output phase voltage is the same $38V_{peak}$ as the input DC voltage and is the 1.5 times($57V_{peak}$), the simulation and experimental results ; capacitor voltages, output phase voltages, output line voltages, inductor currents, and switch voltages were verified and discussed.

  • Recently, sub-micron CMOS technologies have taken the place of III-V materials in a number of areas in integrated circuit designs, in particular even for the applications of gjgabit optical communication applications due to its low cost, high integration level, low power dissipation, and short turn-around time characteristics. In this paper, a four-channel transimpedance amplifier (TIA) array is realized in a standard 0.35mm CMOS technology Each channel includes an optical PIN photodiode and a TIA incorporating the fully differential regulated cascode (RGC) input configuration to achieve effectively enhanced transconductance(gm) and also exploiting the inductive peaking technique to extend the bandwidth. Post-layout simulations show that each TIA demonstrates the mid-band transimpedance gain of 59.3dBW, the -3dB bandwidth of 2.45GHz for 0.5pF photodiode capacitance, and the average noise current spectral density of 18.4pA/sqrt(Hz). The TIA array dissipates 92mw p in total from a single 3.3V supply The four-channel RGC TIA array is suitable for low-power, high-speed optical interconnect applications.

  • For an high speed communication, a 40GHz VCO was implemented using a 0.11um standard CMOS technology. The mm-wave VCO was designed by a LC type using a spiral inductor, and a simplified architecture with buffers and a smart biasing technique were used to get a high performance. The frequency range of the proposed VCO is 34~40GHz which is suitable for mm-Wave communication system. It has an output power of -16dBm and 16% tuning range. And the phase noise is -100.33dBc/Hz at 1MHz offset at 38GHz fundamental frequency. The total power consumption of VCO including PADs is 16.8mW with 1.2V supply voltage. The VCO achieves the FOMT of -183.8dBc/Hz which is better than previous VOCs.

  • This paper presents a design of LLC resonant converter IC for LED backlight unit based on PFM/PWM dual-mode feedback. Dual output LLC resonant architecture with a single inductor is proposed, where the master output is controlled by the PFM and slave output is controlled by the PWM. To regulate the master output PFM is used as feedback to control the frequency of the power switch. On the other hand, PWM feedback is used to control the pulse width of the power switch and to regulate the slave output. This chip is fabricated in 0.35um 2P3M BC(Bipolar-CMOS-DMOS) Process and the die area is $2.3mm{\times}2.2mm$. Current consumptions is 26mA from 5V supply.

  • The capacitive coupled plasma is used widely in the semiconductor industries. Especially, the uniformity of the industrial plasma is heavily related with defect ratio of devices. Therefore, the industries need the capacitive coupled plasma source which can generate the uniform plasma and control the plasma's uniformity. To achieving the uniformity of the large area plasma, we designed multi-powered electrodes. We controlled the uniformity by controlling the power of each electrode. After this work, we started to research another concept of the plasma device. We make the plasma chamber that has multi-ground electrodes imaginary (CST microwave studio) and simulate the electric field. The shape of the multi-ground electrodes is ring type, and it is same as the shape of the multi-power electrodes that we researched before. The diameter of the side electrode's edge is 300mm. We assumed that the plasma uniformity is related with the impedance of ground electrodes. Therefore we simulated the imaginary chamber in three cases. First, we connected L (inductor) and C (capacitor) at the center of multi-ground electrodes. Second, we changed electric conductivity of multi-ground electrode. Third, we changed the insulator's thickness between the center ground electrode and the side ground electrode. The driving frequency is 2, 13.56 and 100 MHz. We switched our multi-powered electrode system to multi-ground electrode system. After switching, we measured the plasma uniformity after installing a variable vacuum capacitor at the ground line. We investigate the effect of ground electrodes' impedance to plasma uniformity.

  • In this paper, we propose a digital controller design process for the interleaved type of a boost PFC (Power Factor Correction) converter which can disperse the heat of the switching devices due to the interleaved topology. We establish a mathematical model of a boost PFC converter and propose a controller design method based on the root locus. The performance of the designed controller is verified by simulations. The measurement of the input voltage, inductor currents, and the converter output link voltage are needed for the control of the converter system which consists of a power unit and a control unit where a high-performance 32-bit microcontroller is used. The adjustment of A/D conversion timing is also needed to avoid high frequency noise generated when the switches on/off. It is illustrated by the real experiments that the designed control system with the properly adjusted ADC timing satisfies the given performance specifications of the interleaved boost PFC converter in the on-board slow battery charger.
