High performance and low power sense amplifier design for SONOS flash memory (SONOS 플래시 메모리용 저전력 고성능 Sense amplifier 설계)

  • In this paper a current mode sense amplifier suitable for 30nm SONOS flash memories read operation is presented. The proposed sense amplifier employs cross coupled latch type circuit and current mirror to amplify signal from selected memory cell. This sense amplifier provides fast response in low voltage and low current dissipation. Simulation results show the sensing delay time and current dissipation for power supply voltages Vdd to expose limitations of the sense amplifier in various operating conditions.

  • In this paper, a new continuous-time current-mode integrator as basic building block of the low-voltage analog current-mode active filters was proposed. Compared to the current-mode integrator which was proposed by Zele, the proposed current-mode integrator had higher unity gain frequency and output impedance in addition to lower power dissipation. And also, a current-mode third-order lowpass active filter was designed with the proposed current-mode integrator. The designed circuits were fabricated using the ORBIT's 1.2.mu.m double-poly double-metal CMOS n-well process. The experimental resutls of the active filter designed and fabricated for this research have shown that it has the performance of 44.5MHz cutoff frequency, 3.3mW power dissipation and the third-order active filter area was 0.12mm$^{2}$.

  • In recent years, conventional streetlight is replaced by LED streetlight to reduce power consumption dramatically and to maximize lighting effects. However the characteristic of power LED itself driven by high current to increase the illumination, we need to develop effective heat release device. This study suggests new concept of heat dissipation device using PCM (Phase Change Material) and shows an experiment results to investigate thermal effects of PCM.

  • Heat dissipation of the high power LED is a critical issue. To estimate the junction temperature of the LED chip is most important in characterizing the heat dissipation, but it is impossible to directly measure it. In this study, surface temperatures of the 12.8W LED bulb was measured for 5 points using a data logger and compared with the simulated results using a thermal simulator based on FVM (finite volume method) to secure a reliability of the simulation. Effects of some factors such as lens, emissivity and air inlet were investigated using simulation works and then the results were analysed.

  • The hot forming process of an exhaust CAM for vessel engine was designed by finite element(FE) simulation and experimental analysis. An aim of process design was to achieve the near-net shaped CAM forgings by hot forging process. Based on the compression test results of the low alloy steel, power dissipation map was generated using the the dynamic materials model(DMM). From the map, the initial heating temperature was determined as 1200oC. FE analysis was simulated to predict the formation of forging defects and deformed shape with different forging designs. Optimum process design suggested in this work was made by comparing with the CAM for vessel engine manufactured by actual forging process.

  • In this paper, dc link currents for the three-phase diode rectifiers and PWM inverters are analyzed and an algorithm of estimating the life of dc link electrolytic capacitors using the analyzed ripple current is presented. Since the capacitor life is dependent on the operating temperature, the power dissipation in capacitors should be calculated. For this, the ESR(equivalent series resistance) model of the capacitor is derived and ripple currents through the capacitor are analyzed. Relating the power dissipation and the heat transfer equation, the internal operating temperature is calculated. Then, the capacitor life can be predicted by using Arrhenius's equation. An example for applications is given for the practical system.

  • In this paper, a hexagon-type piezoelectric transformer was investigated to increase the output power. The length of its side was 14mm and 17.5mm, respectively. The piezoelectric ceramics was composed to PZT-PMN-PSN. This composition showed the characteristics which had an about 1500 of the mechanical Q-factor, 0.55 of the electromechanical coupling coefficient, $320{\times}10^{-12}C/N$ of the piezoelectric constant $d_{31}$, 0.3 % of the dissipation factor, etc. The voltage step-up ratio increased with increasing the load resistance, $R_{L}$, so it reached 80 with $R_{L}$ of $1M{\Omega}$ and was proportion to the length of side of the hexagon-type piezoelectric transformer. Also, the output power increased with increasing the size of the hexagon-type piezoelectric transformer.

  • Low pressure plasmas play a key role in many areas including electronic, aerospace, automotive, biomedical, and toxic waste management industries, and the advantages of the plasma are well known the processing procedure is established. However, the insight behavior of the discharges remains a mystery, even though a simple geometry as capacitive discharges. In this work, we measured RF power dissipation in capacitively coupled plasma (CCP) at various experiment conditions with potential probe and RF current probe. Through the results, we will have a clearer view of the inner nature of the CCP.

  • A 4:1 Time Division Multiplexer(MUX) had been designed in using GaAs Source Coupled FET Logic(SCFL), Designed Multiplexer uses a time division frequency divider and two stage of singnal combining 2:1 multiplexer. The performance of the multiplexer is verified by PSPICE simulation. Designed circuit operates up to 12.5Gbit/s with a power dissipation of 192mW. These performance are more advanced than other reported multiplexer in the speed and power dissipation.

  • Insulation breakdown of water-cooled generator stator windings occurs frequently due to leakage of cooling water and absorption into the insulation material. Leakage and absorption problems of water-cooled stator windings are often found during regular preventive maintenance. To evaluate cooling water leakage and absorption, diagnostic tests were performed on two water-cooled turbine generators, which have been in service for 13 and 17 years, respectively. The test results of the measured electrical properties such as dissipation factor($tan{\delta}$), capacitance and AC leakage current for water-cooled generator stator windings with wet bars are reported in this paper.
