  • This study proposes a new numerical analysis method for assessing the outage cost of the composite power system with considering transmission system at load points. The proposed method comes from combination of the expected energy not served curve(EENSC) with the marginal outage cost function obtained at load points. Uncertainty of the outages of the generation and transmission systems was also included in this study. This study can be categorized into three processing parts as like as follows. Firstly, EENSC at load points was developed newly from the composite power system effective load duration curve which has been proposed by the authors. Secondly, this study proposes a new technical method for determining the coefficients of the marginal outage cost functions at load points in the composite power system(Generation and Transmission systems). It is a main key point that the mathematical expression for the marginal outage cost function at a load point is formulated and evaluated using relations between the GNP (or GDP) and the electrical energy demand at the load pint. Finally, the outage cost was calculated in this paper by combining the proposed EENSC with the marginal outage cost function evaluated at each load point. It is another important feature that the average costs for future at load points can be forescasted using the proposed approach. The effectiveness of the proposed new approach is demonstrated by the case studies with the IEEE-RTS.

  • It is well known that energy generated by a wind generator (WG) depends on the wind resources at the installation site. In other words, a WG installed in a high wind speed area can produce more energy than that in a low wind speed area. However, a WG installed at a low wind site can produce a similar amount of energy to that produced by a WG installed at a high wind site if the WG is designed with a rated wind speed corresponding to the mean wind speed of the site. In this paper, we investigated the power curve of a WG suitable for Korea's southwestern coast with a low mean wind speed to achieve a high capacity factor (CF). We collected the power curves of the 11 WGs of the 6 WG manufacturers. The probability density function of the wind speed on Korea's southwestern coast was modeled using the Weibull distribution. The annual energy production by the WG was calculated and then the CFs of all of the WGs were estimated and compared. The results indicated that the WG installed on the Korea's southwestern coast could obtain a CF higher than 40 % if it was designed with the lower rated speed corresponding to the mean wind speed at the installation site.

  • Partial shading on a Photo Voltaic panel can generate the local maximum power points on the powervoltage curve of the panel. Presence of the local peaks can disturb the efficient operation of maximum power point tracking (MPPT).In this study, the MPPT under partial shading condition is investigated. To circumvent the trappings into the local peaks, the results of the study are enumerated and discussed.

  • Salinity gradient power (SGP) has attracted significant attention because of its high potential. In this study, we evaluate reverse electrodialysis (RED) with various compositions of available resources. The polarization curve (I-V characteristics) shows linear behavior, and therefore the power density curve has a parabolic shape. We measure the power density with varying compartment thicknesses and inlet flow rates. The gross power density increases with decreasing compartment thickness and increasing flow rate. The net power density, which is the gross power density minus the pumping power, has a maximum value at a compartment thickness of 0.2 mm and an inlet flow rate of 22.5 mL/min. The power density in RED is also evaluated with compositions of desalination brines, seawater, river water, wastewater, and brackish water. A maximum power density of $1.75W/m^2$ is obtained when brine discharged from forward osmosis (FO) and river water are used as the concentrated and the diluted solutions, respectively.

  • This paper proposes a shadowing compensation method for the solar modules of grid-connected photovoltaic generation systems. The shadowing compensator (SC) implemented by the proposed shadowing compensation method is used only for the solar modules that can be shaded by predictable sources of shading. The proposed SC can simplify both the power circuit and the control circuit as well as improve power efficiency and utilizes a voltage equalizer configured by a modified multi-winding fly-back converter. The proposed SC harvests energy from the entire solar cell array to compensate for the shaded sub-modules of the solar cell array, producing near-identical voltages of all shaded and un-shaded sub-modules in the solar cell array. This setup prevents the formation of multiple peaks in the P-V curve under shaded conditions. Hardware prototypes are developed for the SCs implemented by the conventional and modified multi-winding fly-back converters, and their performance is verified through testing. The experimental results show that both SCs can overcome the multiple peaks in the P-V curve. The proposed SC is superior to the SC implemented by the conventional multi-winding fly-back converter.

  • In order to study to apply the fuel cell, the study about the power system design and the load control is needed. However, to experiment the fuel cell need the auxiliary device and the complex control technology. For this reason the simulator is needed and such study is in progress actively. In this paper, the PEMFC (Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell) that is applied the vehicle, the small sized ship was simulated based on LabVIEW. The characteristic of fuel cell simulator was implemented based on a simulation data using the programmable power supply. The I-V characteristic according to various factors and the polarization curve of fuel cell were analysed.

  • To solve the problem of conventional fossil energy, utilization of renewable energy is growing rapidly. Solar energy as an energy source is infinite, and a variety of research is being conducted into its utilization. To change solar energy into electrical energy, we need to build a solar power plant. The efficiency of such a plant is strongly influenced by meteorological factors; that is, its efficiency is determined by solar radiation. However, when analyzing observed generation data, it is clear that the generated amount is changed by various factors such as weather, location and plant efficiency. In this paper, we proposed a solar power generation prediction algorithm using geographical factors such as latitude and elevation. Hence, changes in generated amount caused by the installation environment are calculated by curve fitting. Through applying the method to calculate this generation amount, the difference between real generated amount is analyzed.

  • In this study, motion characteristics and power requirement of rotary tilling according to shape of conventional rotary blade were measured. This study was performed to establish factors which needed to develop energy saving rotary blade. Starting point of edged curve of imported rotary blade was faster than that of domestic rotary blade after measuring and analyzing edged curve of rotary blade. So domestic rotary blade tills much soil than imported rotary blade. In analyzing motion of rotary blade, Rotary blade of A, D type was begun to contact at part 3. Analyzing back surface of rotary blade which contact to soil at critical $\lambda$ results in contacting at e-f part. In measuring power requirement of rotary blade, specific torque and specific work of rotary blade are $160{\sim}170kgf{\cdot}m/m^2$, $3,700kgf{\cdot}m/m^3$. It shows power requirement of rotary blade according to shape of rotary blade are very different.

  • Installed PV module in field is affected by shading caused by various field environmental factors. Bypass diodes are installed in PV module for preventing a power loss and degradation of PV module by shading. But, Bypass diode is easily damaged by surge voltage and has often initial a defect. This paper propose the electric characteristic variation and the power prediction of PV module with damaged bypass diode. Firstly, the resistance for normal bypass diode and damaged bypass diode of resistance was measured by changing the current. When the current increases, the resistance of normal bypass diode is almost constant but the resistance of damaged bypass diode increases. Next, To estimate power of PV module by damaged bypass diode, the equation for the current is derived using solar cell equivalent circuit. Finally, the derived equation was simulated by using MatLab tools, was verified by comparing experimental data.
