Purpose: Resection remains the most reliable treatment for established heterotopic ossification, despite questions regarding its effectiveness due to the potential for complications. This study evaluated the clinical outcomes and complications of neurogenic heterotopic ossification (NHO) resection in stroke patients' ankylosed hips. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively analyzed nine hip NHO resections performed on seven patients from 2010 to 2018. The pre- and postoperative range of motion of the operated hip were compared. Analysis of postoperative complications, including infection, recurrence, iatrogenic fracture, and neurovascular injury was performed. Results: The mean operative time was 132.78±21.08 minutes, with a mean hemoglobin drop of 3.06±0.82 g/dL within the first postoperative week. The mean duration of postoperative follow-up was 52.08±28.72 months for all patients. Postoperative range of motion showed improvement from preoperative. Flexion and external rotation (mean, 58.89±30.60° and 16.67±18.03°, respectively) showed the greatest gain of motion of the operated hip joint. Postoperative infections resolved in two cases through surgical debridement, and one case required conversion to total hip arthroplasty due to instability. There were no recurrences, iatrogenic fractures, or neurovascular injuries. Conclusion: Resection is a beneficial intervention for restoring the functional range of motion of the hip in order to improve the quality of life for patients with NHO and neurological disorders. We recommend performance of a minimal resection to achieve a targeted functional arc of motion in order to minimize the risk of postoperative complications.

Concrete, as a porous construction material, permits chloride penetration from outside, which yields corrosion in embedded steel. In the study, an accelerated corrosion technique (ICM: Impressed current method) was adopted for rapid corrosion formation with 10 Volt of potential, and corrosion amou nt was controlled u p to 10.0 %. Corrosion amou nt had a linear relationship with cumulative corrosion current and increased with a quadratic function of accelerating period due to cracking. Regarding bond strength test, OPC concrete showed rapid drop of bond strength over 3.0 % of corrosion weight ratio, however slag concrete with 30 % replacement ratio showed a level of 51.4~71.6 % of corrosion ratio to OPC concrete with keeping residual bond strength.
This study propose the educational potential of an activity that solves the task of one-stroke drawing of complex figures using a drag-and-drop type educational programming language such as Scratch. The problem of determining whether a given shape is capable of one-stroke drawing is a separate problem from actually finding the path of one-stroke drawing and implementing it through programming. In particular, finding a path that allows one-stroke drawing of complex shapes with regularity and implementing it through programming requires problem-solving capabilities based on the convergence of various mathematical knowledge. Accordingly, in this study, problems related to one-stroke drawing concerning polygon-related shapes, tessellation-related shapes, and fractal shapes were presented, and the results of one-stroke drawing programming of the shapes were exemplified. In addition, the mathematical knowledge and computational thinking elements necessary for the solution of the illustrated problem were analyzed. This study is significant as a new example of the mathematics education that combines mathematics and information.
At the outset of import liberalization, most economists expected a significant drop in the prices of domestic goods that faced foreign competition. However, it is now generally acknowledge that a significant drop in prices of those goods has not occurred. A common claim is that the prices did not drop significantly because the major importers of many imported goods were also the domestic producers of competing goods. The objective of this paper is to analyze the welfare effect of importation by domestic firms that produce competing goods, to identify the factors that facilitate such business practices, and to formulate a policy that could improve the welfare. We proved that importation by competing domestic firms definitely raises the prices of both imported and domestic goods compared to the situation where foreign goods are imported by non-producers, ceteris paribus. The intuition behind this result is that since a producer-importer is essentially a cartel, its overall profit maximization requires reduced competition between the products that it sells. On the other hand, if a producer-importer is more efficient at distrinbution than a simple importer, the comparison between the two cases is a priori indeterminate. We also find that the industries in which domestic producers are actively involved in importing competing goods are the ones in which the distribution channels are tightly controlled by importer-producers. This finding suggests that exclusive dealing contracts, which work as an entry barrier, may be the source of importing by domestic producers. We argue that in a country such as Korea, where financial market is highly incomplete, tight control of the distribution channels by oligopolistic manufacturers is likely to be an effective entry barrier that leads to importing by domestic producers of similar goods. We further argue that seemingly superior distribution costs of importer-producers is likely to be a result of market foreclosure which would disappear once the entry barrier of exclusive dealing contracts is removed. Above findings suggest that market imperfections are the source of importation by domestic competitors, which in turn constitutes a market imperfection in itself and reduces consumer welfare. As potential remedies, we considered three alternatives; direct price control by the government over the imported goods sold by major domestic producers, regulation of trade itself between major producers, and regulation of exclusive dealing contracts. For reasons both theoretical and pratical, we find that the last alternative is the most attrative. Prohibiting exclusive contracts between manufacturers and dealers in industries where exclusive dealing contracts are a significant entry barrier is expected to break up the importer-producer cartel and improve the welfare.

For the comparing of mortality of the resistance and susceptible population of Myzus persicae, etofenprox was treated in the recommended concentration of 200ppm. Mortalities of resistance population were 16.7 and 36.7%, and susceptible population were 86.7 and 86.7% after 24 and 48 hours treatment, respectively. For the detect of cross resistance to other pyrethroids, 6 pyrethroids were examined. Mortalities of susceptible and resistance populations were 90 and 31% to deltamethrin, 92 and 23% to lambda cyhalothrin, 81 and 14% to cypermethrin, 70 and 20% to $\alpha$-cypermethrin, 29 and 28% to fenpropathrin, 84 and 29% to fenvalerate, respectively. It was showed that resistance populations were generally resistive to other pyrethroids. On the other hands, for recognized ecological characteristic of M. persicae susceptible and resistance populations life table was tested on the pepper leaves in the petri dish and on the plant in the pot. This results were showed that intrinsic rate of increase ($r_m$), net reproduction number ($R_0$) and generation time in day ($T_c$) were significantly different between two population in both tested. However, life span and reproduction period were slightly different between them. Otherwise, feeding behaviors were tested using EPG technique with non- and treated etofenprox. First potential drop time of susceptible and resistance population was 73.5 and 257.9 sec with non-treated and 93.3 and 1076.2 sec after treated, respectively. Electrical probing signals were 8.2 and 48.8 times with susceptible and resistance individuals after treated etofenprox, respectively. It was supposed that the resistance is more probings than susceptible population. After treated, total feeding time have more 6,728.9 sec on resistance than 965.5 sec on susceptible population. So, total non penetration time of susceptible population was 3,000 sec longer than resistance population.
The toxic effect of azalea extract, expecially on cardiovascular system, is relatively unclear. The purpose of this study is to study the possible underlying mechanism and effect of toxic ingredient of azalea on cardiovascular system. The 71 healthy rabbits were divided into 10 groups : In group as preliminary study ; 4cc of normal saline was administered intravenously(N) ; 0.7gm/kg and 1.0gm/kg of azalea extract was administered respectively in the same route, volume(A1, A2) ; atropine was administered intravenously(A) ; after pretreatment with atropine(0.04mg/kg) to block parasympathetic system, azalea extract was injected like the above groups(AA1, AA2) ; normal saline, 0.7gm/kg and 1.0gm/kg of azalea extract were administered respectively with 0.2cc(1 : 1000) epinephrine(E0,E1,E2). We measured the following indices at I minute interval during first 10 minutes and then 10 minute interval during next 30 minutes : RR interval, QTc interval, maximal systolic and diastolic pressure drop with occuring time and presence of significant arrhythmia. The results were as follows : 1. The changes of RR interval, QTc interval were significantly increased in groups by Azalea extract. The blood pressure change was significantly decreased in groups by Azalea extract. There were no significant differences according to dosage of Azalea extract. 2. The changes of RR interval, blood pressure were significant differences between administration of atropine and Azalea extract after pretreatment with atropine, but not in the change of QTc interval. 3. There were no significant differences in the change of RR interval, ATc interval, blood pressure drop according to pretreatment with atropine. 4. The interaction between epineprine and Azalea extract was not noted by the effect of epineprine itself. 5. The ST change by 0.7gm/kg, 1.0gm/kg of Azalea extract was revealed in 1 case(14.0%), 7 case(100%), respectively. 6. Most of all cases with arrhthymia, ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation, were noted in the group by epineprine, except one case by Azalea extract(1.0gm/kg). It was idioventricular rhythm. In conclusion, azalea extract has negative inotropic and chronotropic effect with arrhythmogenic potential possibly through direct myocardial ischemia or injury but we cann't be absolutely exclusive of actions of autonmic nervous system, especially parasympathetic nervous system.
Physico-chemical properties of asphalt, aggregate, and asphalt-aggregate mixture that might influence stripping were summarized in Table 1, based on the fundamental theories concerning stripping. It was found that although physical properties of aggregate affected stripping, there was no strong correlation between the physical properties of aggregate, such as pore volume and surface area, and the stripping propensity of the aggregate. Chemical and electrochemical properties of aggregate surface in the presence of water were most important factors for stripping. All mineral aggregates tested in this study imparted distinctive pH values to the contacting water and possessed distinctive electrochemical properties as measured by zeta potential. It was found that aggregates which had relatively higher surface potential in water and/or which imparted relatively higher pH to the contacting water were more susceptible to stripping. The functionalities contained in antistripping additives tested were primary and secondary amines and those of organic nitrogen compounds. The functionalities were determined by examining their infrared spectra. Based on the interfacial energy concept, the contact angle of an asphalt drop on an aggregate surface immersed in water related to the stripping propensity. The contact angle and stripping propensity were markedly reduced by the presence of an antistripping additive. In general, all the additives tested improved stripping resistance to some extent, depending on their concentration in the asphalts. The optimum dosage of an additive varied with different asphalts, as well as different aggregates. All antistripping additives tested in this study lost their effectiveness and failed to function to some extent when maintained for hours in a hot asphalt.

This is an experimental study for recycling coal ash left over from coal use as a potential fine aggregate in concrete. Coal ash is generally divided into either fly ash or bottom ash. Fly ash has been utilized as a substitution material for cement in concrete mixes. On the other hand, bottom ash has the problem of low recycling rates, and thus it has been primarily reclaimed. This study partially substituted fine concrete aggregates with bottom ash to increase its application rate and therefore its recycling rate; its suitability for this purpose was confirmed. The concrete's workability dropped noticeably with increasing bottom ash content when a fixed water-cement ratio of concrete mix was used. Thus, concrete mixes with higher ratio levels are required. To address this problem, concrete was mixed using a polycarboxylate high-range water reducing agent. The fluidity and air entrainment immediately after mixing the concrete and 1 h after mixing were measured, thereby replicating the time concrete is placed in the field when produced either in a ready-mixed concrete or in a batch plant. As a result of this research, the workability and air entrainment were maintained 1 h after mixing for a concrete mixture with approximately 30% of its fine concrete aggregates substituted with the bottom ash. A slight drop in compression strength was seen; however, this confirmed that potential of using bottom ash as a fine aggregate in concrete.

Estrone such as estriol and estradiol can not be determined by votammetric methods, because these are electrochemically inactive in the potential windows for mercury drop electrode. Nitro-derivatives of estrone are electro active and nitration of estrone is accomplished by heating the solution involving estrone and sodium nitrite in a water-bath at $100^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. Such nitro-derivatives are determined directly by voltammetry. The electrochemical behavior for nitrated estrone was investigated by cyclic voltammetry. The trace estrone was determinated by differential pulse adsorptive cathodic stripping voltammetry. Nitrated estrone gives a well defined voltammetric wave at ca. - 0.61 V (vs. Ag/AgCl electrode). The electrochemical reaction was irreversible process in sodium borate buffer at pH 11 and nitrated estrone was strongly adsorbed on the surface of mercury electrode. The optimal experimental conditions for the determination of nitrated esterone were found to be 0.05 M sodium nitrate, 0.01 M sodium borate, pH 11.0, and an accumlation potential of 0.10 V (vs. Ag/AgCl). The detection limit was as low as $1{\times}10^{-9}M$ for estrone with 2 min accumulation time.

Purpose: To determine whether upregulation of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) transcription and translation is related to radicular pain in a model of lumbar disc herniation. Also, to investigate the temporal changes of mRNA expression of iNOS and the identity of iNOS and transient receptor potential vanilloid (TRPV) 1 channel expression cells in dorsal root ganglion (DRG) of a model of lumbar disc herniation. Methods: A lumbar disc herniated rat model was developed by implantation of the autologous nucleus pulposus, harvested from the coccygeal vertebra of each tail, on the left L5 nerve root just proximal to the DRG. Rats were tested for mechanical allodynia of the plantar surface of both hind paws 2 days before surgery and 1, 5, 10, 20 and 30 days postoperatively. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was used to follow iNOS mRNA expression. To stain iNOS and TRPV1 in DRG, an immunohistochemical study was done 10 days after surgery. Results: A significant drop in mechanical withdrawal threshold on the ipsilateral and contralateral hind paws was observed 1 day after surgery and was prolonged to 30 days in rats with lumbar disc herniation. The expression of mRNA for iNOS peaked at postoperative day 10 on both sides of the DRG. iNOS-positive sensory neurons in the DRG varied in size from large to small diameter cells. A majority of small and intermediate sensory neurons were TRPV1-positive cells. Double immunofluorescence staining for TRPV1 and iNOS revealed that most intermediate TRPV1-positive sensory neurons co-localized with iNOS-positive neurons. Conclusion: Nucleus pulposus-induced mechanical allodynia can be generated without mechanical compression. This pain is related to temporal changes in expression of iNOS mRNA in the DRG. Co-localization of TRPV1 and iNOS in intermediate neurons of the DRG is correlated with pain modality and intensity.
