Effects of Boron Application on the Forage Traits in the Pure and Mixed Cultures of Orchardgrass and White Clover - IV. Changes in the contents of micronutrients(Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, and B) in forages - (Orchardgrass 및 White Clover의 단파 및 혼파재배에서 붕소의 시용이 목초의 여러 특성에 미치는 영향 - IV. 목초 중 미량요소(Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn과 B)의 함량 변화 -)

  • This pot experiment was conducted to find out the effects of boron application( $B_{0}$ ) ; control, B$_1$; 0.2, $B_2$; 2.0, $B_3$; 6.0, $B_4$; 15.0 boron me/pot) on the forage performance of pure and mixed cultures of orchardgrass and white clover. The fourth part was concerned with the changes in the contents of B, Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn in forages. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. The boron(B) contents of both forages and their differences among the B treatments generally decreased according to the cutting order. The B contents of white clover were somewhat lower in the $B_{0}$ than in the $B_2$. However, the differences in the yields between $B_{0}$ and $B_2$ were relatively great. It was probably caused by the latent B-deficiency in the $B_{0}$. Compared with white clover, the B contents of orchardgrass had relatively great differences between the $B_{0}$ and B$_2$, but both yields tended to be similar. 2. The contents of Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn in both forages were generally different according to the forage species, whether it was a pure or mixed cultures, and additional fertilization. The effects of B application on their contents were different according to the micronutrients and above factors. 3. The Fe contents of white clover were lower in the $B_{0}$ and $B_4$ than in the$ B_2$. It tended to be related to the weak growth of roots and low yields in the $B_{0}$ and $B_2$. However, there were not consistent in the changes of contents of Mn, Cu, and Zn by the rates of B application. 4. The effects of B application on the total ion concentrations of Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn were not consistent in both forages. However, the concentrations were generally affected by the changes in the contents of Mn and Zn. The concentrations of white clover were higher in a pure than in mixed culture.

Biocontrol Efficacy of Endophytic Bacteria Flavobacterium hercynim EPB-C313 for Control of Chinese Cabbage Clubroot (Flavobacterium hercynium EPB-C313 균주를 이용한 배추 뿌리혹병 생물적 방제)

  • Clubroot of Chinese cabbage by Plasmodiophora brassicae, was found to be high virulent to the Chinese cabbage, turnips and cabbage. It this study, the endophytic bacteria Flavobacterium hercynium EPB-C313, which was isolated from tissues of Chinese cabbage, was investigated the antimicrobial activity on the inactivation of resting spores and its control effect on clubroot disease by bioassay. The bacterial cells, culture solutions, and culture filtrates of F. hercynium EPB-C313 inactivate the resting spores of P. brassicae with 90.4, 36.8, and 26.0%, respectively. The clubroot was inhibited with 100% by dipping the seedlings of Chinese cabbage in culture solutions of F. hercynium EPB-C313 before planting, however the chemmical 'fluazinam' was 91.7% in pot tests. Complex treatment were highly enhanced control efficacy with 63.7% at field of 50% diseased plants by soil incorporation with the pellet contains organic matter and F. hercynium EPB-C313, seedling drench of culture solution of F. hercynium EPB-C313 and soil drench with 10 days after planting. These results imply that the F. hercynium EPB-C313 is a very useful biological control agent of clubroot disease of Chinese cabbage.

  • This study aims to contemplated the enjoying culture of Gyeonghwasejok's garden in late Joseon dynasty. It was track down the behavior from cultural perspective by using recorded in literature. The results were as follows. First, Gyeonghwasejok was the main principal of the garden at Hanyang in Joseon Dynasty. There are established residence in the downtown and make a garden. Garden organizer recognized to fine conditions of residences even crowded downtown. As a result people tried to include habitation and garden culture for preserve their cultural benefit. Secondly, Seongsisanrim culture has appeared of common in site selection of garden for occupies the scenic beauty. Garden was surrounded by scenic beauty. Garden organizer was formed archival culture for owning the beautiful landscape through creation of guguk(九曲), designation of space and lettering on rocks. Thirdly, Formation of the collection culture was placed of various ornaments inside garden. A behaviour of landscape view and ornaments appreciation led to the archival culture such as Won-rim-gi(園林記) and essay(小品文). Moreover, hold a friendship meeting for sharing garden culture. Fourthly, Attention of flowering plants was extended to development of gardening hobby such as fashion of pot-planting, planted to exotic tree. It was know that the plants are recognized as favorite elements by target of appreciation according to introduction of plants inside garden. In addition, facility of horticulture and kitchen garden were placed inside garden. Fifth, Influx of chinese garden culture influenced construction of garden space in late Joseon dynasty. Garden organizer recognizes garden as a ideal space by garden aesthetics that Hojungcheonji(壺中天地). And the imitation of Chinese garden culture such as collecting of Chinese's ornaments has become a high-level culture.

  • Effects of lime and inoculation on dry matter yield and nutrient contents of three alfalfa varieties (Medicago sativa L. var. Moapa, Washoe and Lahontan) were investigated with pot culture using Red-yellow sandy loam soil (pH 4.9, from Ryogi hill) 1. In no lime plot germination was poor and harvest was nil, but Moapa was stronger than others. 2. Dry matter yield in uninoculation plot was Moapa>Washoe>Lahontan and effect of inoculation was reverse but nodule development was not clear by inoculation. 3. Dry matter yield in uninoculated plot tends to increase with cutting but effect of inoculation to decrease and the same in nitrogen content in herbage. 4. Moapa was higher in the content of N, Ca, Mg and lower in P, K than Washoe and Lahontan. 5. Washoe was higer in K and Mg and lower in P and Ca than Lahontan. 6. The content of microelements (Fe, Mn and Zn) tends to increase by inoculation and the content of P and K decreased with cutting. 7. High yielding capacity of Moapa seems to be attributable to strong absorption power of N, Ca, Mg and low requirement of P,K.

Allelopathic Potentials of Larix leptolepis on Germination of Several Forest Tree Species (몇가지 삼림수종(森林樹種) 종자발아(種子發芽)에 대(對)한 낙엽송엽(落葉松葉) 추출물(抽出物)의 Allelopathic 효과(效果))

  • Inhibitory effect of L. leptolepis fallen leaf extracts on the germination of Pinus densiflora, ${\times}$ Pinus rigitaeda, Pinus rigida, Pinus thunbergii and Larix leptolepis was investigated. Germination of those seeds in culture room and in pot at field showed the highly significant inhibitory effects by the aqueous extracts from L. leptolepis fallen leaves. Among them L. leptolepis was the most severely inhibited by the aqueous extracts used. To identify allelopathic substances, thin-layer chromatography was employed. Gallic, ferulic, t-cinnamic and vanillic acids were identified from fallen leaves of L. leptolepis. From the results, it is assumed that autotoxicity of L. leptolepis may act as inhibitory factors on germination of the species in natural stands.

Growth and Development of Pot Chrysanthemum 'Pink Pixie Time' in Various Mixtures of Shattered PUR and CGF (PUR과 CGF를 재활용한 혼합배지에서 분국화 'Pink Pixie Time'의 생육)

  • An experiment was conducted to evaluate shattered industrial polyurethane (PUR) and cellular glass foam (CGF) as growth medium components. Pot chrysanthemum 'Pink Pixie Time 'was cuttured in media containing various volume ratios of PUR, CGF, peatmoss, coir, and perlite. Before plant culture, pH and EC of media were determined. Container capacity (%) was low in perlite and CGF-containing media, but it increased when incorporation ratio of peatmoss or coir was increased. pH was stable between 5.0 and 6.3, but was high in coir-contaning media as compared to other media tested. EC was very high in coir-containing media. Hight at 34 days after planting was the greatest in media containing CGF, and number. of leaves was similar among treatments. Growth in PUR-containinly media was poorer than that in the other media, with some leaf edge burning. Trends in growth measured at 97 days after planting was similar to that measured at 34 days after planting.

Biological Control of Perilla Culture by Burkhoderia sp. AK-17 (Burkhoderia sp. AK-17에 의한 잎들깨 재배의 생물학적 조절)

  • There are various crop diseases in green houses that are caused by the cultural environments, especially high temperature and moisture. To solve the forementioned problems, farmers are overusing agricultural chemicals, causing other damages by the chemical residue. In this study, antagonistic bacteria as biological control agents were isolated to produce the environmentally-friendly crops for use in green houses. Eighteen species of antagonistic bacteria were totally isolated from the soil and plants in the Perilla fields, and AK-17 showed the highest activity among the isolates. According to the results of anti-fungal spectrum against several pathogens by AK-17, the antagonism effect of the isolates was remarkable against grey mold rot by Botrytis cinerea, sclerotinia rot by Sclerotnia sclerotiorum, and stem rot by Rhizoctonia solini. To evaluate the biological control effects of the isolates against the major diseases of Perilla, studies were carried out to evaluate the preventive and the curative effects of the diseases throughout the pot experiments. According to the forementioned experiments, the preventive and the curative effects by the isolates against sclerotinia rot were respectively showed as 55% and 92%. For the grey mold rot, those were 40% and 78%, respectively. As to the evaluation of the growth-promoting effect by AK-17, the length and the biomass of the tested plants were increased to 120% and to 164%, respectively. For the leaf numbers and area were respectively increased to 120% and 220%. Furthermore, AK-17 was identified as Burkhoderia sp. according to the results of physiological properties and genetic methods.

Studies on Weed Control with Herbicides in Soybean Field (콩밭 잡초방제에 관한 연구)

  • Tolerance test in plastic vat, pot and fold tests were carried out to investigate the selective herbicides for soybean culture in sandy loam. The soybean plants showed great tolerance against herbicides such as Tri-allate (Avadex-BW), Alachlor (Lasso), Butachlor (Machete), Propachlor (Ramrod), Nitrofen (TOK), MO, HE-314, Nitrofen/Dinoseb(TOK/DNBP), and Chlo.oxu.on (Tenoran), and the growth was normal even when each was treated with the herbicides up to 2ft3 times of the recommended concentrations. Soybean plants showed a slight tolerance against Prometryne (Gesagard), Propazine (Gegamil), Diuron (Karmex), Metabromuron (Patoran), Linuron (Lorox) and Swep when each was treated with herbicides up to 1-2 times of the recommended concentrations. Great injury or withering was noticed due to the high sensitivity of soybean to Simazine (CAT) and to Floumetron (Cotoran). In pot and field experiments with herbicides such as Butachlor (Machete), Alachlor (Lasso), Nitrofen (TOK), Kerb, Nitrofen/Dinoseb (TOK/DNBP), Swep, Linuron (Lorox), Simazine (CAT) and PCP, the following results were obtained: Great injuries were noticed with Simazine (CAT). Also, Linuron (Lorox) and Kerb showed a slight injury at early growth stage of soybean, Nitrofen (TOK) , Nitrofen/Dinoseb (TOK/DNEP), Alachlo. (Lasso), Butachlo. (Machete) and Swep had high selectivities for soybean and no injury was noticed. With respect to herbicidal effects there was a greatly significant difference between treated plots and non-treated plots with the exception of Simaaine (CAT) plot in field test. E. crusgalli and C. sanguinalis were tolerant against Simazine(CAT) and Linuron(Lorox). Cyperus and E. annuus were tolerant against Kerb. Great herbicidal effects on grasses were observed in Alachlor (Lasso) and Butachlor (Machete) plots. Among broad-leaf weeds, P. hydropiper and C. album were tolerant against Butachlor (Machete) and Alachlor (Lasso). When soybean was treated with the herbicides such as Alachlor (Lasso) (ai. 150g/10a), Butachlor (Machete) (ai. 300g/10a), Nitrofen (TOK) (ai. 250g/10a), Linuron (Lorox) (ai. 75g/10a) once after seeding, no additional wording was required till harvest.

Bioaccumulation Patterns and Responses of Fleece-flower; Persicaria thunbergii to Cadmium and Lead

  • Application of phytoremediation in the polluted area to remove undesirable materials is a complex and difficult subject without detailed investigation and experimentation. We investigated the accumulation patterns of cadmium and lead in plants naturally grown, the bioavailability of plants to accumulate these toxic metals and the responses of P. thunbergii to cadmium and lead. The soil samples contained detectable lead (<17.5$\mu\textrm{g}$/g), whereas cadmium was not detected in the soils of study area. The whole body of Persicaria thunbergii contained detectable lead (<320.8$\mu\textrm{g}$/g) but cadmium was detected only in the stem (<7.4$\mu\textrm{g}$/g) and root (<10.4$\mu\textrm{g}$/g) of P. thunbergii. Cadmium was not detected in Trapa japonica and Nymphoides peltata, whereas lead was detected in T. japonica (<323.7$\mu\textrm{g}$/g) and N. peltata (<177.5$\mu\textrm{g}$/g). Correlation coefficient between lead content in soil and in these plant samples represented positive correlation. The total content of lead in each plant sample increased in the order of N.peltata$\leq$P.thunbergii

Biological Control of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum in Lettuce Using Antagonistic Bacteria (길항세균을 이용한 상추 균핵병의 생물학적 방제)

  • To isolate antagonistic bacteria against sclerotinia rot of lettuce, caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, soil samples were collected from the diseased greenhouse field in Namyangju city, Gyeong-gi province from 2007 to 2008. A total of 196 bacterial isolates were isolated using serial dilution method. In dual culture assay in vitro, 26 isolates showed more than 80% of inhibition rates of mycelial growth of S. sclerotiorum. Based on 16S rDNA sequence analysis, the 26 isolates were identified as Bacillus megaterium, B. cereus, B. subtilis, Arthrobacter nicotianae, A. ramosus, Pseudomonas filiscindens, Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, Brevibacterium frigoritolerans and Sphingobacterium faecium. The 26 isolates inhibited the mycelial growth of S. sclerotiorum up to 80% and the sclerotial germination 0-100%. In the greenhouse pot test of ten isolates conducted in summer, 2 isolates B. megaterium (DK6) and B. cereus (C210) showed control efficacy on sclerotia viability of S. sclerotiorum, 20% and 35%, respectively. In the greenhouse pot test in winter, the disease incidence of the control group was 80%, whereas those of 9 isolates among 26 were approximately 20%. From the result, the 9 isolates are expected as potentially antagonistic bacteria for biological control of sclerotinia rot of lettuce caused by S. sclerotiorum.
