양전자 방출 핵종의 방사선학적 비정에 대한 제안 (Development of the Radiological Range of Positron Emitting Radionuclides)

  • 양전자 방출 핵종은 진단영상인 PET영상 만드는데 이용된다. 이때 양전자의 비정은 영상의 해상도를 결정하는 인자이며, 본 연구에서는 방사선학적 기준을 통하여 새로운 비정 측정 방법을 제시하고자 한다. 실험은 MCNP6로 진행하였으며, 대표적인 양전자 방출 핵종인 18F, 11C, 13N, 및 15O를 대상으로 하였다. 방사선학적 기준은 영상을 만드는 신호인 소멸 복사선의 발생위치를 기준으로 하였다. 실험결과 양전자의 방사선학적 비정은 2.3 mm(18F), 3.9 mm(11C), 5.0 mm(13N), 7.9 mm(15O)로 나타났으며, 양전자의 발생에너지가 높을수록 기존의 비정인 CSDA range와의 차이가 크게 나타났다. CSDA range는 현재 가장 많이 이용 되는 비정 측정방법으로 전자가 물리적으로 날아간 거리를 뜻하는 물리적 비정이므로, 방사성동위원소를 인체에 투여하는 핵의학의 경우 방사선학 기준을 적용한 방사선학적 비정을 적용하여야 한다.

Search for Dark Photon in e+e- → A'A' Using Future Collider Experiments

  • The Standard Model (SM) does not provide an information for 26% of dark matter of the universe. In the dark sector, dark matter is supposed to be linked with the hypothetical particles called dark photons that have similar role to photons in electromagnetic interaction in the SM. Besides astronomical observation, there are studies to find dark matter candidates using accelerators. In this paper, we searched for dark photons using future electron-positron colliders, including Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC)/CEPC, Future Circular Collider (FCC-ee)/Innovative Detector for Electron-positron Accelerator (IDEA), and International Linear Collider (ILC)/International Large Detector (ILD). Using the parameterized response of the detector simulation of Delphes, we studied the sensitivity of a double dark photon mode at each accelerator/detector. The signal mode is double dark photon decay channel, e+e- → A'A', where A' (dark photon with spin 1) decaying into a muon pair. We used MadGraph5 to generate Monte Carlo (MC) events by means of a Simplified Model. We found the dark photon mass at which the cross-sections were the highest for each accelerator to obtain the maximum number of events. In this paper we show the expected number of dark photon signal events and the detector efficiency of each accelerator. The results of this study can facilitate in the dark photon search by future electron-positron accelerators.

  • Breast cancer is the most prevalent woman cancer, and its prevalence rate is increasing rapidly. It is necessary to develop the breast-dedicated positron emission tomography (PET) or positron emission mammography (PEM) systems with high resolution and sensitivity to improve the accuracy of diagnosis of breast cancer. Therefore, it is necessary to develop the high-end PET system technologies, such as the measurement of depth-of-interaction (DOI) and fully digitalized data acquisition, to establish high performance breast imaging systems. In this paper, recent technical advances in breast-dedicated PET imaging systems will be reviewed.

저에너지 양전자 소멸 분광법을 이용한 Nb3Ge 박막 특성 (The Characterization of Nb3Ge by Slow Positron Annihilation Spectroscopy)

  • 저속 에너지 도플러 넓어짐 양전자 소멸 분광법으로 $Nb_3Ge$ 시료내의 원자 크기 정도 고체 구조 특성에 대하여 조사하였다. A15 화합물 구조로 된 $Nb_3Ge$ 시료를 상온에서 초전도 특성을 갖는 상전이 온도 근처의 S-변수를 측정하였다. 양전자와 전자의 쌍소멸로 발생하는 511 keV 감마선 스펙트럼의 수리적 해석 방법인 S-변수를 사용하여, 상전이 근처 온도에서 박막의 구조 변화를 측정하였다. 양전자의 입사 에너지에 따른 S-변수는 0.598에서 0.594로 온도의 변화에 의하여 감소하였으며 이때 초전도 전이와는 무관함을 나타낸다. 고온으로 갈수록 일반적인 트랩핑 비율은 커지고 양전자 흐름은 공공(voids) 근처에서 소멸하는 것이 보였다. 이 결과로부터 양전자가 초전자와 소멸하기 보다는 상전자와 소멸하는 것으로 판단된다.

양전자 방출 단층 촬영기의 비행 시간 정보를 이용한 고속 영상재구성 (Fast Image Reconstruction for Positron Emission Tomography Using Time-Of-Flight Information)

  • Recent advance in electronics and scintillators makes it possible to utilize the time-of-flight (TOF) information in improving image reconstruction of positron emission tomography(PET). In this paper, we propose a TOF-based fast image reconstruction method for PET. The proposed method uses the deconvolution of TOF data for each angle view and the rotational averaging of deconvolved images. Simulation results show an improved performance of the proposed method, as compared with filtered backprojection (FBP) method, TOF-FBP, and TOF version of expectation-maximization(EM) methods. Simulation results also show a great potentiality of the proposed method in limited angle tomography applications.

  • 새로운 구조의 양전자 전산 단층 촬영기(Positron Computerized Tomography)를 제안하고 그 시스템의 성능을 컴퓨터로 예측하였다. 이 새로운 구조의 시스템은 sampling 간격을 임의로 할 수 있기 때문에 기존의 시스템에 비해서 보다 높은 분해능의 단층 영상을 얻을 수 있다. 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션으로 이 시스템에 어떠한 artifact가 생기나 살펴 보았고 Poisson noiserk 더해졌을 때의 영상을 비교함으로써 이 시스템이 기존의 시스템보다 나은 영상을 얻을 수 있음을 확인하였다.

Investigation of X-ray-induced Defects on Metals and Silicon by Using Coincidence Doppler Broadening Positron Annihilation Spectroscopy

  • The mechanical properties of Al, Ti, Fe, and Cu metals p-type Si, and n-type Si were investigated by using coincidence Doppler broadening (CDB) positron annihilation spectroscopy. The samples in this experiment were irradiated by using X-rays at generating powers for up to 9 kW. The data taken after the irradiation showed all the characteristic features predicted from defects with vacancies. The S parameter values of the metals were generally less than those of semiconductors such as p-type Si and n-type Si. The relationship between n-type Si and p-type Si were more affected when n-type Si rather than p-type Si was irradiated with X-rays.

  • Infections involving the heart are becoming increasingly common, and a timely diagnosis of utmost importance, despite its challenges. F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) is a recently introduced diagnostic tool in cardiology. This review focuses on the current evidence for the use of FDG PET/CT in the diagnosis of infective endocarditis, cardiac implantable device infection, left ventricular assist device infection, and secondary complications. The author discusses considerations when using FDG PET/CT in routine clinical practice, patient preparation for reducing physiologic myocardial uptake, acquisition of images, and interpretation of PET/CT findings. This review also functions to highlight the need for a standardized acquisition protocol.

Radiolabeled Benzamide Derivatives for Development of Malignant Melanoma Imaging Agents

  • Malignant melanoma has an aggressive nature and high metastatic potential that result in one of the highest cancer mortality rates. Over the past three decades, primary and metastatic melanoma incidence has rapidly increased. The recent advances in diagnostic technology have shown promise, but there is still an enormous need for specific detection methods to diagnose malignant melanoma. Positron emission tomography can visualize a particular biomarker of malignant melanoma and promise a noninvasive image of micrometastases. However, the development of PET radiopharmaceuticals remains necessary for diagnosing malignant melanoma by using positron emission tomography. In this review, the history and a general overview of PET radionuclide labeled benzamide derivatives, including their radiosynthesis, in vivo characterization, and evaluation, are provided as imaging agents for malignant melanoma.

Simulation of a Polarimeter for a Spin-Polarized Positron Beam

  • A performance of a new positron polarimeter is investigated by simulation using a charged-particle trajectory program. The results of the ray tracing are presented along with the details of the design parameters and projected system performance. A ray tracing analysis indicates that this design is capable of effectively transmitting positrons at beam energies varying from 0.1 to 30 keV within the beam diameter of 2-6mm. However, the observed reflection of the positrons(lower than 2 keV) at 12 kGauss indicated that further refinement of beam design is needed to produce a better positron polarimeter.
